I don't think you need feathers for the rappy suit. I think you get it for getting a 10 on all missions on a difficulty level. It's that other prize they mention.

I can never get enough people to try A so I can try and get those rares and I don't like making public requests for people to join in the lobby. Usually I just wait for someone to join me but Sega is a bunch of jerks and locks the mission as soon as you start it.

Well it's official, November 20th is the date for Illuminus. And you lucky sons of bitches on the 360 get it for the cheapest price! 20 bucks. It's a download though and you MUST have the original game. PS2/PC is $40 but doesn't need the original. So it's technically cheaper if you start brand new on PC/PS2 but if you're continuing, 360 is the cheapest.

Edit: But it seems that the 360 version won't have any offline mode, if the wording of certain things is to be believed. So take that as you will.

    I'll probably pick it up.
As odd as it sounds, I actually enjoyed the single player for the first game.
Once I get more time, I'll probably hop back online.

Are any of the five people who were signed up on the 360 side still playing? I got the demo the other day to try it out, and made a character. It put me on a pretty much empty server, so I went to the server select and only found one that was populated. The second I logged in I was attacked with " Cyber talk 400 points" and "pics of my gf 300 points" message spam.

Is the 360 version even worth playing?

Note: I don't currently have a PS2, but I do have access to one. Would I be better off getting it on PS2 if I wanted to get back into it. I loved it on the dreamcast, but I was a little pissed at what the 360 offered online.

The PC/PS2 servers are about the same, except without the cybering for points..

Although since the 1up cups more of the other servers besides 2 (which is the Oberon of PSU) are getting more populated.

I am sure once AOI is released it will be a bit more populated on both platforms

Hell yes, I got all the outfits I wanted from this event. Formalwear, Rappy Suit, and a Speedo. I am set until the expansion.

Also as long as you're not trying for a 10, this mission is actually really nice. Lots of enemies to kill so you get loads of experience and you get to fight Fakis's 2nd form which has the best music and arena in the game. It's just really awesome and I love fighting him.

Its really easy to get a ten on this though..you can see from the very beginning of the mission if you are or not..

If the gate over to the left of you back a way is blocked, you know you have to restart..if it is open you know you can get a ten right off the bat

I got my Rappy Suit today though I was stoked..And I got that Song of Death gun too, which is retarded cause I cant use it at all, all I need now is the banana hammock and I have really everything I want til expansion.

Actually, you can't tell until the HIVE section. Because even if you get the teleporter, you still need to get the buffed enemies for the last sections and fight the Magashi SEED. I know this because once I got the teleporter but I had normal enemies and no Magashi. Got an 8. The next time I had buffed enemies at every turn throughout the HIVE, which gives you loads more enemies, and Magashi at the end. I got a 10 that time.

Well it's still a week away. And I'm looking forward to it, mostly because I'm bored of this cup by now. The problem I have with these missions is that nobody can join games on a whim. You have to already be in a team. Now I personally am not one of those people that hangs out in the lobby going "PLZ TO BE INVITE ME 4 A RUNS" but rather, I'm the guy that during Firebreak would make a game and wait in front of the gate until my game was full. That's just how I am. So once the expansion comes out, it'll be good to be back to normal.

Also just so everyone knows, the PSO worlds won't be open as soon as we get AoI. Japan is getting them next month so expect a similar 3 month wait.

    PSU Update Schedule

Due to the specifications for upgrading our servers for Ambition of the Illuminus, we are introducing new system changes separately to the servers on Friday 11/16 and Tuesday 11/20.

    Schedule for 11/16 and 11/20

11/16: PSU to AOTI System Upgrade for PlayStation 2/PC, Normal Maintenance for Xbox 360

11/20: PSU to AOTI System Upgrade for Xbox 360, No Maintenance for PlayStation 2/PC

11/20: AOTI Content Live For All Servers

    PSU to AOTI System Upgrades!

Ambition of the Illuminus will be here in one week, and we are updating the servers to get ready for the expansion. Unless otherwise noted, all of these system changes are in effect for players using the original Phantasy Star Universe, and many more enhancements are included within the expansion. For clarity, PSU will refer to the original version and AOTI to the expansion. As previously stated these changes will take effect on 11/16 for the PlayStation 2/PC and 11/20 for Xbox 360.

    SYSTEM CHANGES

Lobby Transport: Players can transport directly to Field Lobbies they have already visited by paying meseta to the Lobby Attendant NPC. This will only work for lobbies you have visited after this update.

Increased Photon Arts Levels: Photon Arts level limit is currently 30, but Photon Arts can be level 31-40 after AOTI launch.

Protranser Gains Detect Traps Ability: Traps, previously only detected by goggles, are now always visible to Protransers. However, goggles are required to uncover and disarm traps.

Chat Availability: Chat communication becomes available during some event cutscenes, such as boss enemy entrances.

Changes To First Person View And Goggle Activation: This adjustment will cause a delay when switching between normal camera, first-person and goggle viewing modes.

First-Person View Available While Seated: Now you can get better camera angles while sitting down in rooms and lobbies.

MY ROOM, SYNTHESIS AND GRINDING UPDATE

Increased Synthesis Success and Elemental Attribute Results: Synthesis success rates and elemental attribute results will be higher. The success rate when using rare and unusual materials will be raised even further. In addition, there are more varied results when synthesis fails. To make failure less punishing, synthesis materials related to target item or unusual items may be created.

Weapon Grinding Changes: Weapons no longer break when a grinding upgrade attempt fails. However, grind status will be reset (back to zero) and the maximum number of grinds is lowered by one. For example, the first time you fail when grinding a weapon, its grind status will become 0/9, and it can no longer be ground to +10.

    BATTLE SYSTEMS

Just Attack Available: Just Attack is the melee timed-attack system where critical hits are caused by following up melee attacks with precise timing. Just Attack will work with Skill Photon Arts; players can automatically critical with their whole Photon Art if it is activated after the second part of a normal melee attack. As a result of this, Just Attack will work a maximum of five times continuously (Normal melee attack, followed up with the 2nd and 3rd part of the normal attack chain, then 1st, 2nd and 3rd Photon Art attacks). There is no special effect in PSU for Just Attack (there is a special effect in AOTI), but Attack button icon will become brighter. Due to a unique issue, PSU players cannot activate Just Attack when using Photon Arts after 3rd attack with knuckles, although this will work in AOTI.

Just Counter Available: Just Counter is a critical counter-attack activated by attacking with precise timing after evading enemies (the shield guard animation). It is possible to use Photon Arts for Just Counter, including Bullet and TECHNIC Photon Arts. There is no special effect in PSU for Just Counter (there is a special effect in AOTI), but Attack button icon becomes brighter.

Photon Points Will Be Recovered By Normal Melee Attacks: Photon Points of your equipped melee weapon will recharge when attacking normally (without using Photon Arts). Extra PP are recovered with a critical hit.

Elemental Attribute Calculation Changes: The difference in damage between weapons with different elemental attributes has been reduced. With this update, the damage will be almost the same when using 50% elemental weapons against the correct element, as it was previously. However, players will notice damage is much improved for weapons with low attributes, no attribute, or against creatures with the same attribute as your weapon.

Character Damage and Defense Adjusted: Changes are made to characters' base damage and defense to balance the changes with elemental attribute damage calculation.

SUV and Nanoblast Changes: When using SUV weapons and Nanoblasts, CASTs and Beasts will no longer lose any positive status bonuses granted by support TECHNICs and consumables.

Weapons Drop With Elemental Attributes: Attributes will be added with random percentages when whole weapons and armors are dropped. Which attribute is added for actual weapons and armors depends upon the manufacturer.

Meseta Drops Increase With Size Of Party: Meseta amount players receive from enemy drops will increase according to number of party members.

The Default For Item Distribution Is Now "Set Random": This change only affects Rare Item distribution.

Changes To Meseta Distribution: When "Set random" or "Set in order" is selected on the Adjust item distribution menu, picked up meseta is distributed to all party members evenly. Only the player picking up the meseta will receive it if set to "Give finder".

Photon Arts Balance Update: Some parts of low-power Photon Arts are updated to balance them with high-power Photon Arts. This update will bring more variety to battle by making different Photon Arts more effective.

Updating Endurance For Huge Enemies: To improve attack variation against huge enemies, endurance will be lowered for some parts of huge enemies which are currently affected by high-level status effects. With this update, even low-level status effects become potentially useful against huge enemies, although they will have low probability of working.

Enemy Experience Increased: Defeating enemies will grant more experience, especially at lower levels. Players can reach at Level 100 faster then they can currently, but leveling up becomes slower after that.

Changes to Status Inflicting Attacks: Inflicting negative status will be easier for players and enemies. Using different status attacks will be a more effective strategy then before.

Bonus Damage Using 'Hanzo' With Photon Arts: Now this Seven Star GRM long sword is especially good for Photon Arts.

Bonus Damage Using Kubara Melee Weapons With Photon Arts: Now all Kubara melee weapons are especially effective when using Photon Arts.

    ITEMS AND SHOPS

NPC Shops Will Pay More For Certain Items: Weapons can be sold to NPC shops for higher price. Selling prices will be also be updated for certain items.

Beauty Salon Is Discounted: Certain character customization options in the Lumilass salon are discounted.

Nice. As a Force, the improved chance of status infliction will be very nice. Burn is incredibly useful on large enemies and can sometimes deal more damage than any normal attack. And now I'll have to go on a world tour and visit every lobby so I can teleport to it. And little things like chatting during boss entrances is nice.

    Extra Features:
Exclusive to the PC/PS2: Offline Episode 2 Story Mode with new voices and cut scenes.

Pretty sure that means no offline story for 360. The game comes out next week though so we'll be sure then. What I think Jelloblimp means by DLC only is that there's no disc to buy for the expansion on the 360. You have to have the original game and then you can buy the expansion for $20 online.

    Actually..

    Let me clarify things...

For the PS2/PC version, only story and extra mode is available to you to play if you don't pay for the Guardians' License. However there are some slight changes for the AOI expansion. AOI indeed for PS2/PC version will be standalone but with a slight cost: Episode I will not have any cutscenes to make up room for the extra content. If you have the Original PSU game, you can just continue your Episode I game there with the cutscenes. In AOI, there will be Episode II (which is available online already) except it will be available for offline play now with the extra voice acting. In Episode II offline though, you will use your Extra Mode character rather than your network mode character.

So really the Xbox 360 players aren't missing out much unless you don't play PSU for its online which really isn't worth the game itself.

Oh man, that's right. I completely forgot that they refer to the online levels as episode 2. And the online missions in the expansion are episode 3 I think. So I guess there's really no new offline story mode for the expansion. Just the story mode we have online but with voices and stuff.

Also dear god, it takes forever to get spells from level 30 to level 31. I must've used diga a couple thousand times.

So I got the expansion. It is nice. The PS2 version is really improved, which is good because my PC sucks. Attacks load much faster and the slowdown has been fixed dramatically. It's still there because the PS2 is weak but let's say that when I was in the middle of 2 barta traps going crazy, I was casting foie, someone was using a whip, 2 others were shooting, and a Vil De Bear was spinning and punching, it still didn't slow down to what the original did when 3 people cast spells at the same time.

Also, does anyone want to make a new topic or should I?

I was going to make a new thread for it because of AOI and how impossibly outdated and wrong half the OP info is; but I haven't gotten around to it.

The fact that I haven't played in months and AOI is sadly low on my list of games I want to get this holiday season just compounds the problem.

I really want to play AOI, I really do, but knowing that I've played all of what is on the offline game already and taking a wild guess that the online stuff will be episodic like it was for the past year makes me less inclined to pick it up any time soon. I'd rather wait till most or all of the new story is online before I spend the money.

Yeah, looks like that's it. So the question is, do I bother keeping the PS2 version to get anything special from the first game or just keep the 360 version I have? Decisions, decisions.

afaik there's no "carryover" between the games. The offline in AOI is whatever character you make (it's the online story missions that have been going on the past year with FMV's, voice acting, and I dunno what else), wheras in the basic game you play as Ethan.

If you play a lot of "extra" mode instead of playing online I would imagine you can carry that character over assuming there is an online "extra" mode in AOI (again, AFAIK the 360 version has no offline mode, but this is hearsay, so that could be wrong).

There is carryover with the PSU Extra mode and the AOI Offline mode. I just don't know how much, goodie wise, that's in PSU Extra will also be in AOI Offline. Sadly, it seems to be a one way transfer. I couldn't go back and do extra missions in PSU I guess.

And yeah, no Offline in the 360. Which is completely stupid.
