I got second in my pod at the PAX South tournament. And I lost to the guy that won by one ship, and pretty much because he had a tala and I had binayre. I feel pretty good about the list I used, even though I had to borrow a couple cards for it:
Bossk, predator, outlaw tech, mangler.
Binayre pirate, feedback array. X4
The guy who won highest MOV at the tourney had:
Poe, blue ace, Miranda.
My "for fun" scum list ( http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/375382/guri-kavil-and-bug-zappers ) finished 2-2 yesterday. I'm pretty good with that result, as one of my two losses came against Comradebot, who has consistently beaten me in every game we've played for like half a year running.
Quick recap? Quick recap.
Game 1
Opponent had N'Dru, Binayre Pirate, Boba Fett and Cobra Talonbane. And almost no upgrades.
All four Z's on the table died first. Guri and Kavil downed his while my pirates died to Cobra and Fett in a joust. I never used their bug zappers, which was a mistake. Cobra parked right beside Kavil and wasted him with 5 hits. His Fett and Cobra split up, leaving Guri with a choice in who to pursue. I chose Cobra and managed to shoot him down from behind. With time approaching zero, Fett and Guri came together for a couple final round of jousting. I managed to eat into his hull and avoid my own death.
Highlight: Guri surviving a range 1 shot from Fett with time expired to clinch the victory.
Result: Win, Guri by points (roughly 20 point difference)
Game 2
Opponent had Jake, Tycho and Poe, and a whole bunch of the typical upgrades. Fortunately not Predator on anyone. Poe had BB8.
The Pirates did serious work on this one. Trading health for health with A-wings who cost almost 3 times as much but have the same hp pool felt...dare I say scummy? Tycho dropped in an early round of shooting, Guri clipped a shield with a range 3 hail mary, one pirate behind him knocked off a shield and hull, the pirate he was tailing zapped him with the array. Kavil went down quick to Poe. I kept joisting and zapping with Poe using the pirates and dancing Guri with Jake, each fighting for positioning. Eventually the pirates incredibly won, only to have Jake proton rocket one to death and shoot down the other. There was another 3 or 4 rounds of Guri and Jake trying to dodge one another, when a bad turn landed the slimmest sliver of Jake's base on an asteroid and Guri lined up at range 1.
Highlight: Poe performed a perfect Talon Roll to put himself at range 1, nose to nose of a Pirate. Then lost the dice off and died. Awesome positioning, terrible dice. Deeply amusing.
Result: Win, Guri left alive.
Game 3 (Comradebot)
Bot was running Ello Asty, Blue Ace and Porkins
Porkins was the hit of the event. Unfortunately there is no dramatic back and forth swings or surprising conclusion in this one. The X-Wings had me soundly beat start to finish. Kavil (as usual) died first, stuck with two X-Wings who had all the best possible angles. The pirates struggled to keep the more agile X-Wings in arc at all. Guri got left trying to dodge multiple ships, which is just a loosing proposition long term. It was ugly.
Highlight: When I thought I killed Porkins but didnt because Integrated Astromech, because thats exactly how that game felt.
Result: Comradebot win, all ships surviving.
Game 4
Opponent was running Poe, Red Ace and Blue Novice. Opponent is also the guy who I played in the champion match the previous two tournaments at this store, so I know he's pretty good. Not as good as Comradebot, but his list is "better" and I just learned how I feel about T-70s today.
This game actually started off really well for me. Guri got behind Blue Novice and went to town. Kavil actually got to use his Seismic and tagged a couple X-wings with it. My only loss was a lone pirate. A pirate once again shot down Poe and Guri finished up the Novice. Then things kind of fell apart. I turned Kavil the wrong way and he ended up taking ages to return to battle. Guri took a crit to her hull, the one that causes white maneuvers to give stress. And I was already double stressed (Sloop and Glitter). A Direct Hit would have been better. A major explosion followed by a direct hit would have been better. Without my one turn and actions, I just couldnt shake the Red Ace. After that, there wasnt any punching through his regen and evade tokens with my remaining ships.
Highlight: Seismic actually getting used and working! BOOOM!
Result: Opponent wins, Red Ace surviving.
If I took it for a spin again, especially post next wave, I'd look at Lone Wolf and maybe Sensor Jammer for Guri. Possibly a Dorsal Turret on Kavil instead of Blaster. And the Pirates...I could see dropping them for 4-LOM. Without or without Tractor Beam, depending on how much I want that Sensor Jammer on Guri.

Excellent.
Also so everyone is aware, I will be probably trying out the "Make a random squadron" feature of X-Wing builders, because I think it would be hilarious and I want to see what it gives me.
Good news, everyone!
When all the games in the group stage are finished, the TOP TWO commanders from each group will advance to semifinals and we'll have a small championship bracket!
Also so everyone is aware, I will be probably trying out the "Make a random squadron" feature of X-Wing builders, because I think it would be hilarious and I want to see what it gives me.
Im willing to do the same for our Round 2 matchup.
So, squadrons are locked for the whole League correct?
They have not been, historically, though some players have locked their squads in for a season.
I know @webguy20 did it last season, as did @Grunt's Ghosts I think. I used 1 squad in season 2, but that was mostly due to laziness :P
I've been lax on it for funsies, and so players can adjust or completely change up if they want.
Since we're doing semi-finals and finals (and 3rd place), we can lock squads for those matches.
Also @crimsoncoyote do you have table top simulator? I find it easier to use than vassal. Though ultimately can do either.
I do actually! I haven't used it yet though, but I would be welcome to try it. I'd probably need some help though :P

You shouldn't unless you're prepared to deal with something potentially shit for the entire league (I am because I am a masochist). IIRC you have to stick with the same squadron throughout the league.
Yeah, no reason to lock in a single squadron for the whole season. It's more fun when you can try something out, see whether or not it's working for you, and tweak it or try something else each week.
I mean, if we were playing a couple games over the course of a single day, sure, but this is a 2-month-plus effort.

Edit2: If the above is the case, I will generate a random squadron before every game. Who knows what I will turn up with! I sure don't!
I just did my random squad (I was so excited I couldnt wait) and its not even total shit. I suspect the key to getting a "better" squad would be avoiding Imperial. Also luck.
But it sounds like its not locked in anyway. Which is good. I was going to use the league to test out some squads Id been kicking around but not yet bold enough to take to a tournament.
See, that doesn't look too bad to me. But I know nothing of lists.
My list is pretty much god awful, except oddly for Tycho and I can (somewhat) live with him. Kyle Katarn in a stealth device HWK is beyond being bad though. That ship needs to be at range 1 to get 2 basic dice on attacking. Trying to make this work is going to be a really interesting challenge - but that is the entire point!

It's super simple to use due to the fact that it's physics based. Only pain is set up. Though I think you can save a set of stuff (like say, all your dials, cards and models for the squadron) to the chest so that'd make it far quicker.

Well...Prototype is about right. Minus not have AT. Knave...the Scopes are a sad joke. Kyle was so close to being right. If only it had invested in a turret instead of SD. Gonna be a beast to hit though buried under tokens and SD.

That's a surprisingly non-awful randomly-generated squad, @Aegeri !
Like, Kyle in the Crow with a Recon Specialist is a good fit; the Stealth Device and Wired are a little eh, and the Enhanced Scopes on the PS1 E-Wing is mostly just funny, but I suspect you'll do fairly well with that squad. Kyle should support Tycho pretty well, letting him get, essentially, 3 actions every round (probably Focus, Evade, and ... Boost?).

Yeah the fact I am sitting on a mountain of focus tokens will be amusing. Personally I wouldn't have minded a TLT on the HWK, which would mean it could at least do something with its shooting every turn, but none the less, if you go random you go all in. While I could "fix" it, I feel that goes against the entire spirit of what I am trying to do.
Also it's worth noting, this random generation can only produce lists that use my actual physically owned models/cards. So it will be fascinating to see what it throws together.
Edit: Also Tycho has no PTL, so he's stuck just at his one action - albeit taking it even when he's stressed. Strictly speaking though, he should never have to use focus at least.

Yes we do! Sorry, I kept forgetting to post it.
Final standings from Season 3 are (out of 6 games):
@Sokpuppet @Elvenshae @webguy20 @Chrysis @DaMoonRulz @Grunt's Ghosts

My attempt at fixing Aegeri's squad while keeping the spirit of insanity. Just because.
I really want the inquisitor! I mean, beyond obvious name sake reasons I love how he flips autothrusters the bird.
This as well! I have a harder time putting together good IMP lists and the Inquisitor sounds like a lot of fun to play.
