[SUPERHOT] SUPER. THREAD. SUPER. THREAD.

SUPERHOT is a game where time only moves when you move.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1jothqmqHw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QiQ7uwuKUM

It's really just about killing Red Dudes, not much else, but it's great! It feels like the natural extension of bullet-time as a gameplay mechanic.

There's a free prototype that came out a few years back to give you an idea of how it plays!

There's also Killstagram, an official website that lets you upload replays from the full game (be warned, there will almost definitely be unmarked mechanics-based spoilers herein)

Have fun! And remember, YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL

Here are some replays I've got!

This first one is just a straight-forward run of one of the levels. It was the first one that had given me a lot of trouble, and so this replay where I kind of nailed it was satisfying.

And this one is me getting a personal best in the Endless mode, in spite of making lots of silly mistakes! Also be warned, this replay contains those mechanics-based spoilers that many others on this site will have

    I really appreciate that
the twist isn't "you were killing actual people aren't you so horrified by your own actions" or "you could have chosen to quit at any time but instead you decided to keep killing"

instead, it poses the same question you, the player as it does to you, the character; if you want to keep playing / experiencing SUPERHOT, you have to do what we say, and you are only given a limited amount of autonomy in specific areas

the narrative, such that it is, and mechanics tie together nicely, I think

Those implications are certainly there, but it never belabors the point or makes any moral judgements on the things you are doing and I think that's to its benefit. These things are there if you want to think on it more, but the morality of what is transpiring is unimportant from the point of view of the "system."

It's less an implication and just not outright stated, that's not what it is about. It's about SUPERHOT, and it's many origins.

    Speaking of...
You know when the game asks you if you would like more information?

Well, I guess it has several different variants on that "information", all of which are different origins for SUPERHOT

Here's a link to the pastebin of all of the ones found via screenshot so far

I have a feeling they each carry one piece of the truth or another, but I also wonder if it really matters where SUPERHOT came from

i actually read a text dump of that. crazy fun stuff.

The narrative of SUPER HOT is weirdly paced. I feel like it could have been tightened up. Particularly the times when you're just walking around. Weirdly, I feel like some input from the guy who did The Beginner's Guide would have much improved those bits. And the music in the credits made me wish there was more music in the game itself because it was really good.

The strength of this game is in it's level design, and for the most part it's quite good.
I didn't feel like the possession mechanic was needed. But, to the game's credit, it worked with the themes of the game and I did use it.

Not the most amazingly impressive replay, but I like the way it plays out in real time

oh ho, man, i just jumped the car, shot a bullet out of the air, and in the next moment dodged a bullet behind AND in front of me, as they crossed the two bullets passed each other and killed the other guy. Love it.

I saw a link with "Super Hot Pacifist Elevator Run". I was initially confused.

I've been getting into the challenge modes, and they truly are where the game shines. I particularly enjoy the time challenges, and I wish the game had a ranking system where you compare times with your friends.
I actually use possession now and it's super fun to use once you get over your self. It's absolutely vital for the time trials as it's the fastest way to kill somebody.

Also, there's a separate VR SUPER HOT game coming out sometime.

Which is cool I guess, I don't have a VR headset though. But they're also getting ready to release a free DLC for SUPER HOT with procedurally generated levels and a skill system. Which is super cool.

Hmm. I've been trying to do the no restart challenge. And it has been frustrating. I often have a run cut short by bugs. Punches and shooting not happening, thrown objects bouncing off enemies with no affect, not picking up selected objects, time randomly speeding up, bullet cutting not working, enemies teleporting, losing control of my character. It's stuff that has been going on while I played the other modes, but it wasn't an issue as a death just meant restarting the level. It is major pain when death means restarting the whole thing though. To be fair, I'd say only half of my restarts are caused by bugs. But that isn't great.

Oh, and I finished the no restart challenge ages ago. Did I post about getting a free achievement? I was having connectivity issues and I randomly got an achievement. I emailed the Super Hot crew about it and they said it was a bug they haven't been able to reproduce and to enjoy me free achievement. So that was neat.

I'm loving Node's Superhot VR videos. They've done about three so far if you wanna see more. They fully commit to acting out action movie cliches.

Also, I saw it in the tabletop game thread but might as well put it here:

    SUPER HOT THE CARD GAME
"cards only move when you move"
    I don't know, what even.

No more news on the DLC front yet. I'm looking forward to procedurally generated levels.

If you backed SUPER HOT you currently have early access to the expansion right now! Oh, and you can buy it too! (but you know... Early Access, I wouldn't buy it yet)
