This is a thread for discussing dessins animés français - French animation.
French animation has a long and rich history. The short film Fantasmagorie, made in 1908, is one of the first-ever hand-drawn animated films, and the first ever projected on film:

René Laloux’s 1973 film Fantastic Planet, a bizarre cut-out surrealistic science fiction movie, was the winner of the special jury prize at Cannes:

Paul Grimault’s 1980 film The King and the Mockingbird was over 3 decades in the making:

Perhaps the best known French animator working today is Sylvain Chomet, the director of The Triplets of Belleville and The Illusionist:

France is also home to Gobelins L'École de L'Image – one of the finest animation schools in the world. It’s known for it’s grueling, all day entrance exams where a large pool of candidates are whittled down to a narrow few. Here’s one of many fantastic short films produced at the school:

France is also the home of the popular series Wakfu:

Anyway discuss all things French and animated here!
(Please don’t discuss Japanese animation in this thread.)

I've seen that short film from Gobelins before, it's super super rad.
and Wakfu is, like, the best thing ever
I hated it
But I was like
12 when I saw it so I prooooooobably am not a good judge, here
I have probably watched this like 30 times

I've always seen it as a nice analogue to dealing with personal anxiety.

And yet, even knowing this, he continues to be Butler for life
Can we truly trust a man who makes such terrible decisions?
eh I dunno, it's not trying to appeal to younger audiences, but it's also just a weird, artsy, disjointed, surreal film that I wouldn't blame anyone of any age for not finding appealing.
But I don't need your trust
Why do you think I decided not to be Butler For A Democratically Elected Term With Defined Limits?
French sci-fi comics.
Ne tirez pas sur le messager
I adore it visually, but I think I prefer Triplets over all. Because the music. And maybe the cyclist jokes.

I've never seen it! I too probably would have hated it for the art style, when I was younger.

You can't prove anything
the aurora borealis?
at this time of year?
at this time of day?
in this part of the country?
localized entirely within your post?
and then it will be locked and we'll be told it's why we can't have nice things.
I think at some point there was talk about turning the Incal into a live action movie. Has anyone heard what became of that?
I really loved that series, I think it was my first introduction to Moebius. Sadly I only have the modern recolor at home because it was the only (german) version available for a while. They did release a new edition of the originals later but I couldn't really justify the cost.
oh wait, french animation
le
Reposting this because people thought it was funny
You can no longer get a Royale with cheese around here anymore though which is a bit sad
