I generally just pretend that whoever I'm talking to didn't grow up in America and hasn't fully assimilated yet. Because at least with the older generations, that's kinda true. Like, my grandfather and his sisters grew up dirt-poor in depression-era rural Michigan. They had no indoor plumbing, used an out-house, didn't see a person of another race until they were teenagers, didn't have electricity, used kerosene lamps for light, slept on straw mattresses and cooked on a wood stove. That's a totally different experience than most young Americans have growing up today, so I can only assume the rules of decorum and what was and wasn't "polite" would be equally alien now.

Some of them (my great aunts) attempt to embrace the change but do it badly because they don't really understand the new rules. Some of them (Grandpa) handle it very, very badly and wind up being especially awful because they grew up being told it was totally okay to openly say/do things that would be inconceivable to young bigots today.

Update on that situation from last weekend where the new girl who doesn't do her job at all called me a little know it all bitch for trying to teach her how to not make the many, many mistakes she made.

I told my boss I would let her handle it but was considering calling our corporate HR line. She said it was not acceptable and that she would handle it.

The employee in question received the harsh punishment of getting an extra shift this week and being told to apologize to me, which she did not.

So, yeah, I called the corporate HR line. This is far from the first complaint about my boss, she doesn't do her job at all, hires the worst goddamn employees, has been so lazy about hiring that we have been without a Front Office Manager for 2 and a half months, doesn't respond to any emails or calls and is just all around shitty.

There was that part time night auditor I mentioned who clearly lied on his resume and didn't do his job at all either. I volunteered to take an extra shift each week of she would fire him because I was doing the work anyways during my shifts the week after and might as well get overtime for it. She agreed and then neglected to tell the guy he was fired for TWO WEEKS. He texted me last Friday to make sure he was working and I had to actually call her cell phone and tell her to fire him, which she didn't do because another employee had to tell him when he called our lobby phone.

My actual job isn't very affected by her laziness and I am fine working here for another few months before I move in August but holy shit her complete and utter ineptitude drives me up the wall.

Pulled an extra shift this week and I'm at the quietest of the client's stores. Had to stop myself from rushing off like an idiot to kill a crane fly.

(By extension my fault since I am the primary on setting up the software and network for the testing systems.)

How they rudely gesture in front of my face and cry "no, no it didn't work it gives us an error." while I am attempting to show them that no, if you follow the directions like you're supposed to, it works flawlessly.

Which is then followed up by questions which imply that I do not know how to do my job.

    Yeah I love testing season.

This reminds me of the tester monkeys story from TRENCHES back when the comic first started.

Edit: No sir, I'm fairly certain I cannot give you a mere $0.50 to help you get a beer while I'm in uniform and on duty. Shitty days aside.

Apparently over the last two weeks we've had a guest trying to get in contact with her because she was supposed to send them a travel router that they left here during their stay.

Our morning shift employee had to deal with increasingly aggressive calls from them which she would transfer to the GMs office only to be unanswered. They tried emails as well which went equally unanswered. Finally, after being sick of being yelled at over something she didn't do, the FD employee gave them our corporate HR hotline. The next day my boss got a phone call from corporate HQ and came out of her office pissed off that she had to buy them a new travel router.

The whole reason for this ordeal?

She sent it to the wrong address.

Well, she's our GM. Her bosses are in another state and visit like maybe 3 or 4 times a year.

So unless a ton of people alert them to her fuck ups as long as she does the bare minimum of her job she won't get canned

One of my favorite managers got demoted. She always seemed to do a great job. Maybe there's a reason I'm not privy to, but it all seems like this company expects its employees to bleed themselves dry and even then it's not enough.

The whole thing has me worried and upset more than it should.

    Welp

We had one of the 3 Bistro employees scheduled to come in today call in, the morning shift Front Desk call in and now it appears our Bistro Supervisor is no showing, leaving our only active Bistro employee our cool who can't work the POS.

Our Part Time Auditor is also the Bistro Supervisor's daughter so chances are she no shows tonight as well.

I have a new mid level assistant manager, and I don't dislike him, but he already grates me a little bit.

He's fond of pretending we're all still in the military, which is problematic for me because I was never in the military to begin with. It's a little annoying to see him always use military time and refer to "tours of duty" and so forth. The primary mid level manager is new, and I don't know how to feel about him since he isn't here yet. He's got some big training elsewhere and wont be back in town for a month.

Ugh, I'm going to worry about this forever.
I don't do the military time because I was in the Air Force which is like Diet Military, but I don't think I'm ever going to fully shed all of the habits and terminology and all that. I also worked in the real world before joining too, so I can totally understand that adjustment being harder for people who haven't.

I love Bernie Sanders flipping the bird to Lowell McAdam. And I love Lowell McAdam's whiny-ass responses. As someone in my department just said, "Lowell McAdam makes what, 20 million dollars? But it's us who are overpaid." Luckily I don't work under that turd biscuit of a CEO anymore.

The lady got to a particular DVD "On the Spectrum" and started laughing, then told me she found it funny because when her husband acts weird she jokes that he's got "high functioning aspergers" and is "on spectrum." She kept trying to get me to laugh with her.

And since I can't raise the issue of how completely awful that was at work, I'm posting here to get it out of my system.

I'm off work for two weeks.

Slipped on a wet floor and fell on my left wrist this past Sunday morning to kick off my third week in a row of no days off. Figured I'd sprained it badly, so gave it a few days to start to feel better. It got worse, so I went to my company doctor, who has a notorious reputation of "accidentally" mis-diagnosing people in ways that keep them working hurt. He got a worried look on his face and sent me for x-rays, which revealed fractures in some small bones, and was then sent to the local bone and joint specialist for treatment. Got a splint and a follow-up scheduled, and HR at work said the ball is in my court and whatever I want to do is what'll happen, up to and including sitting home to recover.

I told him I'd come in that night to see what I can do one-handed and we'd go from there. Came in, tried the couple things I knew I was capable of, and found they either left me with horrible hand cramps and numb fingers (using the crane) or was incredibly dangerous to myself and others (forklift), so I told HR it'd probably be best to go with the time off, despite our production manager desperate to not have me miss work, not because of any particular value I have, but because he doesn't want to have to report the accident (the spilled water I slipped on happened because of a long-faulty hose clamp) to OSHA.

Fuck that, my safety trumps management being scared of OSHA, so I took the time off, which will be under workman's comp.

Definitely do everything you can to make sure it heals properly. Those little bones don't get great blood flow so they can sometimes heal really slowly.

Found a hat in the womens bathroom this morning. Luckily, all hats in the building come with name tags and an insignia representing how important the person owning the hat is. So I was able look up the name on the email address list to win brownie points with Major Lost-Her-Hat by telling her where it was.

This was my good deed for the day, which I hope offsets my telling another sections supervisor trying to bitch to me about my supervisor put a sock in it because I didn't want to hear his shit.

Yeah, the wrist is a fickle mistress. I once caught a clean poorly and sprained something a month before a competition and it still wasn't feeling right two months later.

I had that sucker taped so tight for the meet that my hands were purple, but it got me through the day.

I just got a call from a lady in the NY office asking if our meeting rooms were set up like a 'fishbowl', IE, glass walls facing reception and outside.

I said yes, they are, but we have blinds that go down and cover the entirety of the walls/windows so if a client needs privacy they can have it

I got a call back asking "Okay, but can the client see out?"
