With a keen eye for detail and a chin as rugged as industrial sandpaper, MacSpectre poured over the recent case files that had conveniently been placed on his desk.
It seemed as though Captain Tux hadn't died of a heart attack after-all and was just rendered unconscious due to some bad tuna. He was pissed and rightly so, Mac had blown his top again; what was worse, he had placed suspicion on the precinct's only female detective. He was stuck on desk duty until Tux was able to return to work.
There had been an outbreak of violent crime recently. It was strange, crime being this high in the dead of fall. Most of the crazies got out during the summer months. Fall was the cool down period into the winter lull.
What was all this shit on his desk?
An old lady was beaten to death by her own grandson. A mother of 4 drowned her children in a deepfryer. A reverend cut off his own penis and sodomized (rubber bands around the base, constricting blood vessels) himself into a coma.
People were going mad in this, no his, town.
It all led up to that house. That was the tie-in to all the victims and their assailants. The Rovias manor. That was it...it had to be.
MacSpectre was on the case.
Spectre put on his overcoat, donned his worn-out fedora and began to walk towards the parking garage. Aldo, a young and inexperienced detective trotted up beside him.
"Cap'n Tux said you were on desk duty Mac, you should let me check out any leads you have. I'm just itching for some action!" said the rookie with big, star-filled eyes.
"No, not this one, Aldo. You're too reckless, too green. I have a bad feeling about this case. I need you to stay here and dig up as much information on the Rovias' you can get, do you hear me?" Mac shrugged the kid off.
"Aw comeon, man. Just let me get my feet w-" Spectre cut him off "No. Get to work, detective."
Aldo groaned and slinked back into the desk corral with the other jockeys. This case was too dangerous and MacSpectre wasn't sure if even he....was up to the challenge.
Tune in later for the next installment of, "MacSpectre: Man of Mystery".
I'd guess that the tome either grants seering powers to whoever holds it, or if you target someone with a power maybe you get to control their power instead of them. With coin-flips built in for conversion/insanity.

I just realized I won't be around at all, all weekend so its best to not give a book to me until I am back, then I will gladly take the book and use its power to grant hookers and candy canes to everyone.
