I think the biggest change needed would be to show how many audience votes are available either by having a fixed set of votes for each % of the vote or just displaying what's left in the pot. As it stood last night it was a bit random "This country gets 39 votes, the next gets 43 for some reason etc"
That said, I do like the idea of having audience votes in a big lump at the end, the turnaround was really exciting compared to previous years where it was effectively all over after about 20min of voting

The audiencevote works exactly the same as the jury vote with each country giving out points from one to twelve. It's just the presentation that's different.

Sure, I get why the numbers looked odd, that's where I think it could be improved by making the tiers fixed or something, so for example, tally all the votes into one big pot, then the top ones get an equivalent of one to twelve points, basically make the audience vote into the 43rd jury vote, but awarding a total of I don't know, around 400 points or so. It'd make it a bit more comprehensible because you could see how many votes were on the table like you can with the jury votes.
It certainly drew attention to the fact that there were some countries which received almost no points from the jury but were "saved" by the audience vote

I kinda love the fact Poland went from last to the top half.
I wonder where the Polish migrants were all these other years when Poland either didn't get out of the semi-final or the Polish entries ended up near the bottom
Tynic, where you are, this might be the most important moment in your country's history
I couldn't actually watch it
by the time I had time to sit down and view, eurovision had shunted the video over to youtube, where it was region-blocked. And logo don't have it on replay. I'll try bbc iplayer maybe.

I know politics has always been a part of Eurovision, but this is too blatant for my taste, and I'm actually pretty sad that the voting ended this way.
I want my Eurovision to be silly and fun.
if you can utilize a global platform to make a trenchant political point, you should fucking well do it.
For once it might make Eurovision something other than a massive waste of money.
The whole show seemed rather muted this year. Really only Russia, the robo-dance-battle, "Peace, Peace, Love, Love" and whoever was responsible for the stage had ESC-worthy performances.
Oh, I think Australia's stage show during the final wasn't that bad
It had the weird holograms and I don't know how they did those, remember
I haven't seen it yet, I just put the BBC stream on in the background now.
I think that's one thing I don't like about this semi-final/final format. You get kind of a teaser of the actual act, but you don't really get to see people pull out the stops unless they make it to the final.

It was the same Tony Stark/pre-crime hologram thingy as in the semi.
People say Ukraine shouldn't have been allowed to enter this song because it is too "political"
But
The lyrics deal with the singer's family history, there is just no way to stop this
What if a singer from Israel would enter with a song dealing with her family's history during the Holocaust
Luckily we're well past the point where most people in Germany would feel fucking offended by this
and who the hell gets to judge what is 'political'
and if you (general you, not Platy) think censoring content in order to present a boppy, poppy upbeat image of a unified Europe isn't a political act, I have a Potemkin village to show you.

Lotta people haven't really registered what's happening on the Ukraine/Russian border and it's creating some dissonance with the song drawing attention to it.
The no political thing was put in place to stop countries just sniping at each other at the content for mundane things, I don't think they were thinking about how wars and invasions were going to be addressed when the rule was put in place.
I'm fine with songs having a political theme, and I have no problem with having Ukraines song in the Final. I just feel like Australia lost the first place to an inferior song because the people of Europe choose that to make a statement.
It is a tough subject and an overall shitty situation, but I just have a really bad taste in mouth about how the voting ended.

She sat on a big cube for most of it!
I mean I get that the song needed to presented simply (especially with that mad arm bling threatening to take over) but sitting down while cracking out a big song just seems super lazy.
In a surprise twist, Latvia has sent a young Chris Evans to compete.
edit: regardless of how much you like the Ukraine song (and I actually think from a composition perspective it probably is the best overall piece of music, though that's very unlikely to factor in much to the voting), the staging is gorgeous.
But not as bonkers and fun as Russia though.
double edit: If i was the UK entry, I'd kidnap Graham Norton and force him to eat his own patronisation.

THAT WAS SOME STEAMING BULLSHIT.

Austria's song was certainly not the third-worst in the contest
I couldn't actually watch it

totally disagree, they almost always ramp up the costumes and insanity for the finals. Semis are like a warmup, usually much more boring.
i um
I didn't like the song, but you've got to be kidding me. It wasn't exactly thrilling but there were definitely much worse.
Yeah, Australia certainly had the axtual singing part down pat, only the presentation was super boring.

What are those ideas people have
Czech republic song is like someone said "what if we took the most boring bits of every Celine Dion non-hit
also shut up, Graham Norton

Stealing some alliteration from Simon and Garfunkel and throwing in a weird reference to Facetime just doesn't have the same impact.
Occasionally they do, but more often they don't

update: Croatia is a giant bird that wants to be Sinead O'Connor
update 2: Holy shit, Russia. Some real Triumph of the Will vibes happening here.
