So I think they should keep whoever the writers are this season, it's been good.

    Maybe its just my
Rufus and Bobby love, but man this was an entertaining and touching Monster of the Week episode.

  • skeldareskeldare Gresham, ORRegistered User regular
That was probably one of the best, even if it was filler.

We need more Bobby and Rufus.

I've been catching up on the last several episodes of this show. The writing has been totally on point this season. The main storyline is reasonably compelling and the villain is solid. The filler episodes have been good to excellent. I have no complaints whatsoever.

    Just saw this week's episode.
Definitely did not expect them to bring Rowena back from the dead. Sure would've been awkward if her magic whatsit had activated while Lucifer was still standing there.

Speaking of, hi Mark Pellegrino! He wasn't in it much but I'm happy for every appearance he makes.

I think they overdo it sometimes with Crowley's talking talking SCREAMING thing, but a couple of his lines were pretty amusing.

So this past week's episode was a really good monster of the week episode. My favorite part was actually
the fact that there was no twist to the creatures overall. The Bissan was introduced, how to deal with it, and they dealt with it. It allowed the characters to shine through and deal with their arc in the episode.

  • skeldareskeldare Gresham, ORRegistered User regular
That was a really good episode. Really liked Jessy aand Cesar too. Hope they show up again in a future episode. Though the fact that they were able to get a happy ending probably means they won't.

I tend to think the "monster of the week" formula runs counter to sense in the overarching story.

"We have to stop this God-level threat from the destroying the world!! We're the only ones who can!!"

"...but first let's investigate some random weird murder in bumsville Kentucky."

  • WhiteZinfandelWhiteZinfandel Your insides Let me show you themRegistered User regular
They usually make a point of saying something like "Well, we have no leads for finding (big bad), I guess we might as well go to Kentucky and ice some people-eating schmucks."

  • McFodderMcFodder Registered User regular
    MOTW stuff regarding season arc:
Yeah, there was 30 seconds at the start of 'Hmm, no new leads on Amara, may as well get off our butts' and the 15 second discussion at the end of 'Hey maybe these guys could help us...naaah".

I think this kind of episode works better at the start of the season though, not 4 episodes from the end.

Also, Jesse's actor seemed really bad. I normally enjoy watching terrible movies but he still managed to stand out to me.

I thought last night's episode was really good. And they finally
confirmed that Chuck is God, after 6 years! And they brought back the amulet, I guess also after 6 years!

And Metatron was actually kind of awesome!

    I loved it.

I really enjoyed last night's episode as well. I tend to enjoy when a series can poke fun of itself though. I did love the Revolution name drop though. Got some solid laugh's out of that whole bit though. Very interested in seeing next episode as well. Kind of where the series has needed to go for a long time.

At first my response was "welp this is going to be 40 minutes of ruining everything" and then when the song kicked in I kind of went "well I was entirely wrong about this episode and that's good". I was firmly on team "I hope they never do that" until this episode.

    Don't remember that one.

Many fans feel that season 5 was the high-point and it was slowly downhill since then. However, the general consensus is that season 11 has reversed the downwards trend in a big way and its rising back towards its high point. I gotta say that I agree - this is the first season in a long time where I've been looking forwards to each and every episode, rather than just waiting the season out and catching it all later. I still haven't watched all of 9 and 10, because I don't care, but 11 has been great.

Nope, I don't think the kid has ever been brought up again.

RE: this episode. I think I'm honestly impressed that they actually pulled the pin on the whole
God thing. I kind of expected the show to just perpetually skirt around God himself and never explicitly reveal him.*

In fact, when Chuck in this episode started getting irritable with Metatron I was somewhat waiting for a reveal that he wasn't really God/Chuck after all, but just something posing as him.

I liked the joke with the "World's Greatest Dad" mug that I thought was them teasing it again until the end of the cold open.

Also this episode was great. I loved every part, and was completely enthralled when the song hit. Does anyone know the name of the song?

Does God really have a sexuality if God doesn't really have a gender? Though I guess in Supernatural they have been pretty heavy on the "He" aspect, with traditional Christian Mythology.

Also I found the song at the end of the episode, it's a folk song called "Fare Thee Well"

"I didn't actually learn to play guitar... I just gave myself the ability, kind of like how I "learned" to speak French"

I was laughing my ass off at that. I really, really enjoyed this episode, because it did something I never thought a TV show would pull off.
It made God seem like a normal person. They used a great plot device to do it too, having it be that God was just still acting as Chuck so a lot of that personality came out, but behind the mask, God is just as weird and powerful and stubborn and confused as Amara, even though he's had eons not locked away to figure it out. He doesn't want to take the blame for humans being terrible or Angels going to war.

I also liked how he'd flop between Chuck and a Deity when talking to Meditron. "You were just the closest to the door" was a great line.

are YOU on the beer list?

I only just now jumped back into the season because y'all were happy. Good episode but did they never think to try gas masks with this whole soul-eating fog thing ?

EDIT: Also that ending could not have made it more obvious what happens next, but did so pretty elegantly. Supernatural's season 11 dead cat bounce is good!

I'm going to be sad if Donatello does not become a recurring character. He would be so perfect as the straight man ensconced in the bunker providing all the lore crap and badly needed levity. Why the hell did they send him away? Fools.

Really the show could go in any direction, but some form of
god and his sister killing each other seems to be the order of the day. Maybe death shows back up and takes them. Then we find out about supergod or some nonsense.

Kind of a neat twist on a portrayal of god and the devil
Lucifer is basically right about god all along and god abandoning 'us' is him coming around to lucifers ideas.

Maybe god enlists lucifer again with humanity, and then lucifer and god turn on humanity afterwards? I'm probably reaching. I could see lucifer/god/Amara all biting it fore even more of a reset.

The whole Old Ones thing from Lovecraft seems like it would have a lot of potential, even if they already kind of touched on it and then abandoned it as just an excuse to get to the purgatory bit. I thought that was the direction they were going with the Frankenstein stuff during last season too, especially secret society vs secret society with the Men of Letters, but that fizzled out disappointingly. Then again, I imagine they'd probably just do them as similar to the leviathans only more bad effectsy and madnessy.

5 bucks says they mentioned the cage because they'll deal with the darkness by somehow jamming it in there, possibly letting Michael and Lucifer out and replaying seasons 4-5 again.

Maybe they'll actually get Adam out while there there...

They made a joke about them leaving him in there last season during the 200th episode musical, but nothing ever came of it.

I cannot tell you how irritated I was that they explicitly reminded the audience about how they've totally left Adam in the Cage for years and have done absolutely nothing to try to free him from eternal torment...

and then they just never mentioned it again. It seemed like such a specific, awkward beat in that episode that I hoped that it was setting something up and wasn't just supposed to be a continuity reference. I was wrong.

Although I will continue to hope for them to resolve that thread until the show finally ends. I was happy about the reference to the Cage, Michael and Lucifer, and will once again hope that it is actually setting something up....

I have been leaning towards thinking this will happen myself.
Specifically, God and the Darkness destroying each other to free the world from both their influence. This could leave Lucifer as the strongest being in existence, and might set him up to be the villain of season 12. Though who knows how the next few episodes might affect him, or what his goals will be. Maybe he'll get a downgrade to make him less unstoppable, or he'll let go of some of his hate.

I would love to see Death back, but it seems like these cosmic beings can be destroyed without affecting what they do - death as a process still happens, and the creation would survive God's destruction presumably.

I'm gonna be disappointed if that's it for Donatello. Maybe she just sucked out his soul and didn't kill him? Why do that whole thing with bringing him in one episode if you're just going to kill him off in one brief scene the next episode?
