Overwatch is a fun character based shooter from Blizzard. Here's a new overwatch thread.

I'm not on the console spreadsheet. Also I don't know how spreadsheets work because I am stupid so I can't add myself to it.

Also Blizzard pls give zen like 25 more health!

The weird thing about Zenny is I think it might overtune him to straight buff his health.

I think giving his shield a shieldgate mechanic similar to Zarya's would help cut down on his 'lol get one shot' moments while also stopping him on a team of Symmetra/Torb from becoming the god monk to eclipse the sun.

I really doubt I will ever get the Game Over achievement as my best is 3 players and a turret
    Well that's a lie as I got 3 players a turret, a mine and a trap once
But that was a awful game that I just gave up and kamikazed myself into that room

    Speaking of this

I think the pregame setup is really well designed

There's so many little touches to the areas that people love to mess around with

And if those weren't there the sprays would be COMPLETELY useless, it's already become tradition for everyone to rush the door and put their sprays down the second the game starts

@Vivixenne to continue from earlier, the Pharrah Native American skin is not the only one that has gotten flak. Roadhog's Maori skin, Zenyatta's Djinn skin and Symmetra's Kali/Vishnu (not sure which) skin have all gotten flak

there's a couple reasons that the Pharrah one has come up more

    1) White Americans have a history of exploiting Native American culture for its 'coolness' factor without giving any thought to its importance. The skin has a bunch of different designs that are very specific with meaning to many different First Nations cultures and throws them together in a mishmash, stripping them of meaning. Blizzard has also done this with First Nations stuff before, extensively, in WoW for the Tauren.

    2) While its possible that Roadhog could be maori, symmetra could be practicing hindu, etc, Pharrah is definitely, 100% not first Nations. She's Egyptian. And not just that but she is shown to practice, or at least admire, traditional Egyptian deities and religion. So this is a complete "because it looks cool", with no chance of a character justification.

    3) There's also the even less charitable reading, which predominantly white-run media has often run into, that makes it possible that it was given to Pharrah specifically because of a "all brown people are basically the same, right?" mentality.

So basically not only did they give a culturally important skin to a not explicitly native american character, she is explicitly NOT native american, Blizzard has a history of exploiting native american iconography, and they (possibly) just slapped it on someone who could maybe pass for native american and called it a day.

This is not to say the other instances you referred to are ok, but are some of the reasons this is the one people have been focusing on

iirc blizzard has mentioned they are taking a look at widow so maybe instead of buffing zenyatta health they will reduce charged shot damage from 150 to 140-125
would solve a lot of complaints w.r.t to zenyatta since then you could more effectively play artillery in the back and use distance to mitigate your low hp

I would add, and I think I heard this on last week's Beastcast from a listener email, that apparently the skins are a mishmash of iconography of 3-4 different First Nations tribes, not just one.

Zenny's stuck in a really weird place balance wise.

He has no mobility and no health and therefore sucks if the enemy team sneezes on him.

But he also heals, de-buffs and can bring as much damage as a good DPS barring ultimates so you can't just straight buff his health.

It's why I think the best fix for him would be a slight change/addition to his kit rather than numbers, same for Hanzo who I think should be pushed more into a utility role because there's no way he's ever competing with Widow for top snipe person.

I played the weekly brawl last night and it's random heroes this week. We had the map in Greese and my team started the match with D.Va, Torbjorn, Hanzo, Lucio, and 2 Bastions.

We absolutely crushed the other team. I think we had maybe one person die the whole game.

  • TallahasseerielTallahasseeriel Registered User regular
I think as zen's shields go down low his orb of harmony should heal more and orb of discord should do a dot on top of the debuff or something

Also yeah maybe a slight adjustment of hanzo (who I have way more trouble with) and widow

I don't think blizzard had any bad intentions with the rainmaker pharah skin but I hope they listen to the criticism. At the very least they should keep skins based off cultures to characters of that culture, and they should take more care to make the cultural skins accurate enough that it doesn't offend.

But I'm almost certain they just went "what's a cool looking bird skin we can do?" and ran with rainmaker because it does look pretty cool. It's a shame that they didn't at the very least have a Native American character to give it to, and even then it would need to be modified to not be quite so stereotypical.

Zenyatta, like Roadhog, is best as a second support. He's still okay as the team's only support sometimes, but he's really fucking good with a Lucio.

Eh, Zenny needs help from a tank against a good sniper. That's not exactly a bad thing. It should be a little harder to get headshots, for sure though.

Also I find if zenny has a Reinhardt who is good with his rectangles he can be really good in a slug match.

I may only have more trouble with Hanzo because He's much more common than widow on PS4 I find. Because you don't have mouse aim on her scope so she is a little harder to play. Personally I find them both impossible to get into, because I don't like sniping.

I got the Game Over achievement when I panic Q'd while dying on Volskaya point B attack. Somehow killed 5 people and was super confused until I saw the potg. Turns out I managed to initate self destruct right as the enemy Mercy hit her res and I killed everyone she had just brought back, plus the poor oblivious widow that was scoped in on the upper level.

Yeah, but even in the place of a damage dealer eh, like a 76 brings some secondary healing too and has damage to bring while being safer. I think he's definitely lower on whatever tier list I'd put together (but balance in the games pretty tight, so that's not saying too much).

Zeny is helped a bit by a tank like Reinhardt too, someone that provides a place to hide.

It's a shame that he's made of paper, because he's probably my favorite support character. If they aren't going to boost his health, I would really like Blizz to make him quite a bit faster, if he was as fast as someone like Gengi it would help make up for his low health pool.

i would say zenyatta brings more damage than a 76 but its harder to play b/c projectile vs hitscan. discord is absurd tho

I wish on attack/defend maps the defending team spawned closer for the set up period because I always feel like by the time i make it to the front there are only 15-30 seconds left and I don't have time to actually set up

Especially as Symetra where what I really want to do is carefully lay out 4-6 turrets and if I'm lucky I can slap down 3 in locations that aren't completely terrible before the enemy doors open

I love killing a charging at me enemy reinhardt with a full orb blast after sneaking an orb of discord onto him.

Zenny is just more fun to play than at least Mercy or Symmetra. Also Symmetra can't really heal anyone right? Just shields?

I've won games for my team as lucio. His ult is bonkers.

When nobody else goes support on defense and I have to choose between picking somebody who can heal vs symmetras sweet sweet teleport it makes me so sad

  • PinfeldorfPinfeldorf Yeah ZestRegistered User regular
Zenyatta's ult is better than 76's by a mile, and his long range damage is better. There's also almost no way to account for how much discord is doing, but it's not insubstantial. Given equal skill levels, I think I'd prefer a Zenyatta on my team than a 76 on offense almost every time, but a bit less on defense.

  • Albino BunnyAlbino Bunny Jackie Registered User regular
76 brings more raw damage than Zenny but it's kinda hard to do a direct comparison because:

    1) Value of burst vs increased damage: IE is the 120 helix rocket better than discord orb. Which will vary from target to target and based on game state

    2) Drop off, 76 has it and Zenny doesn't. Which means past a certain range even without discord Zenyatta takes the lead.

But I think it's pretty fair to say that to a degree they can fill the same slot in the team (damage threats with healing attached) and 76 is the much safer pick in most team comps due to needing less baby sitting.

  • TallahasseerielTallahasseeriel Registered User regular
I find zenyatta very good on certain parts of numbabi defense for some reason. As long as we have a good tank.

I just learned that Hanzo's arrows only charge to 125 damage. Widowmaker charges to 150 and charges slightly faster even.

Why would the easier to land hitscan shot do more damage than the projectile with travel time and a firing arc?

    This makes no sense.

Widowmaker is better mobility, a flank denying trap and wall hacks for her entire team, a better kit imo.
