Netflix has brought back Voltron, rebooting the series with an 11 (the first episode is 68 minutes) episode season from Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim De Santos of Legend of Korra.
The voice cast is pretty great!

Why I fear the ocean.
The thing I've been most surprised by, besides the general level of quality it has, is how much of a serialized narrative it has. It isn't stand-alone episodic at all, every episode drives the plot forward and ties into the ongoing story, to the point that they often pick up immediately after the end of the last one, sometimes dealing with a new threat that showed up at the end of the previous episode.

We watched the three episode long opening movie to the series and not hearing it really detracted from the big form volt rob moment in its last moments.

They do not, sadly. I mean, it makes sense - that music doesn't seem to me like it would really fit with the overall tone/style of the new show - but they don't even really allude to it, which I agree is a little disappointing.
Show is still a lot of fun, though.

Allura took over as pilot of the Blue Lion pretty early on in the original, when Sven (aka original Shiro) got taken out.
