Today is Mel Brooks' 90th birthday. The writer, director, producer, and actor in some of the most classic and funniest films of the last 100 years such as:

Blazing Saddles

Young Frankenstein

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2p5AG0Tqh3A

History of the World, Part 1

Spaceballs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtPzInmj8JU

Robin Hood: Men in Tights

And several more.

So yeah, twitter scared the bejeesus out of me when I saw Mel was trending, so let's celebrate the man while he's alive.

Mel Brooks looks like he's pushing 90.

The guy that blows me away is Shatner. Dude is 85 and easily could pass for 50!

And he didn't openly put his name on the film because he knew his name would give the audience the wrong impression. "Oh cool, another comedy from Mel BrooOHMYGOD!"

I love Mel Brook's movies so much.

This just reminds me I need to get them all on bluray.

On the other hand, he looks great for a 2000 year old(/pound/dollar) man.

I think the Blazing Saddles fart scene was also the first of its kind in a movie, while also being plenty hilarious on its own.

I only like the first because it's a dry humor and no straight-up zombie stuff

I learned to swear from Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles, so Mel Brooks will also have a special place in my heart.

If you have a chance, watch the panel that Brooks and Carl Reiner did at the Paley Center a couple of years back, because it's delightful.

Having written some comedic materials now and then, I think about this quote a lot. It really slices right to the heart of the matter.

World War Z is a great book and it breaks my heart that that audiobook is abridged.

I heard some rumor about Spaceballs 2. I just did a google search on it an I see a bunch of websites I can't go to. Is there any truth to the rumors?

Apparently they went back and did an unabridged version of the audiobook when the film was made.

I need to actually get around to listening to it, as the parts that were taken out of the abridged version were mainly things that were actually specified as not being able to be recorded in the book.
