yeah, I was doing a 720 grab over the big jump, then a 900 some-other-grab up the halfpipe, but still would only get 2nd place.

the key is to do some more difficult grabs, like mute, stales and the like.

I guess that's what I did... on one run yesterday stuff just clicked, and I got a 91.XX or so, and none of the other challengers caught up.

    I still wish I'd recorded my winning X-games big air. I got a 97.8 from a 900 stale tuck-knee to a 900 crossbone.

It looked awesome and was so satisfying to finally get a good score after repeatedly trying and failing to front / back flip over the first ramp.

Both the big air ramp, and the one at the Danny Way complex are so satisfying to hit. I could ride those things for hours and not get bored.

See I'm not to keen on the big air. Yeah it's nice and all to make yourself dizzy doing grabs and spinning around all over the place but I prefer to keep things on the street and make it more technical.

I probably spend longer just grinding benches and ledges randomly.

I get the most fun out of tooling around in an area with no plan and seeing how long I can go without bailing.

Problem is, it makes for really boring footage. Most of my "lines" are well over the 30 second limit.

Yeah, I like to mix it up. I love cruising around the streets, find a ledge to hit (I spent ages getting a line just right on some really high ledges, which I'll upload soon enough), and finding new places to skate out and about. But I'll always end up gravitating to either Way's park to skate through on my way down, or into the X-Games for some Big Air shenanigans. Then I'll roll out, and go find some more ledges and tables to hit.

And yes, I now like to see how long I can go without bailing, since I'm planning on making a long, unbroken video to go with a song. It will need a looong time without bailing, and some cautious editing to make it all seamless.
I can see it being very trying.

While it sounds like hyperbole, it really is easily one of my games of the year and an all-time favourite. I'm also really interested to see what they do with the next one, which has to be coming.

I think the only requirements I'd have for a sequel is more options in replays, such as stationary cameras and more save slots.

Flatland stuff, eh. Be neat but it doesn't interest me a ton. I'd like to see hand plants and the ability to walk on foot, for precise setups.

Yeah, I wouldn't have a lot of demands. Some more tricks, and the ability to stop/catch the board mid-trick would be nice (which could lead in to flatland stuff), a new city, and the ability to walk around. That and the option for moving the camera and static cameras for replays, and I'd be happy.

And Snowcone, if you have any problems with the game, there's a good community of people here who've seen the worst it has to offer, so there's always someone that can help out.

    on the sequel:

lip tricks would be nice too, or at least label them as disasters, stalls, rock and rolls, etc. A miniramp that actually works would be great. all the grabs that thps has, airwalks, benihanas, judos...the fact that a regular grab isn't called an Indy blows me away...

-tweak the physics a bit (get rid of those weird exploits people seem to use) and make it so that some of the larger drops are possible (some of Reynolds' stuff is impossible to do in skate), but its weird how you can jump a 20 stair and roll away, but other times you can't.

-flatground is hit or miss, no one really skates freestyle anymore (pros, coverage, etc.) so why put it in?

-a sequel to that killer intro :D:D

I don't mind the physics bugs, but then I really haven't encountered many at all. I can see how it would get annoying for those that regularly hit them. One thing I would like, if only as an option, is still for a more 'realistic' physics setting. I know you can't get THPS height, but you can still ollie way higher than is humanly possible. I don't have a problem with this in the game, it's fine, but it would be nice to have a setting that was that much more realistic.

Yeah, it'd be nice if there was a hardcore mode where the various flips and shuvits were actually hard, and you couldn't chain 3 of them together before hitting the ground. I can see why it's not in the game, it would have frustrated people instantly and they'd not play, but having it as an option would be much appreciated.

Only bug complaint I have with the game is the idiot way your guy will just stand there and push when he's up against a wall. Sometimes he'll switch, but usually you just bounce against the wall for ever. Stairs are equally annoying. If the guy can't skate on it, he should either fall, or pick up his board and walk.

Or stick his hands out onto the wall, like you'd do in real life. I really liked the animations in this, the whole variety they have for sketchy landings are awesome, but they could really stand to license NaturalMotion's stuff for the bails and things.

The whole point of the game is to use the thumb sticks to pull off tricks. This game does not translate to KBAM at all, and no developer like EA is going to release a PC game that requires game pad support.

With no decent spectator mode, it's really not that great. You can't stand in a spot and watch your buddy attempt a trick, because there's no easy way to follow him around without rolling around on your skateboard.

You can save replays though, which is pretty cool. I did a couple rounds at Danny Way's a while back and we all spent the better part of an hour choreographing the most hilarious multi-skater wipeout we could manage.

I imagine a couple guys could have fun playing "follow me" and trying to make interesting lines together.

    HUARGH.. SEIZURE!

That would just send me into spasmodic fits of rage, having to try and do a nollie 360-flip with the mouse.

Oh, I know, but to get the kind of height you regularly do in skate, takes a whole lot of trial and error, and precision timing. Even then, it still seems like you're getting about chest/shoulder height to the average person. Unless I'm mistaken, which is very likely.

If you crash several times above this half pipe you continuously start higher and higher off the ground. Keep this up for a while, and you end up waaay too high. Too high to land anything even.

And then if you're close enough to the pipe, you can enter it at ridiculous speeds.

Can anybody offer any tips for the P-Rod Tech to Hubba? I only seem to be able to 'Ride the Hubba'. But the NOLLIE 360 FLIP to Grind is eluding me. Am I missing something?

    EDIT:

Nevermind. I was doing Nollie 360 Shuvits. I corrected my angle and finally got the Flip. The controls are just too damn awkward.

I hated this part. I just repeated the same thing like sixteen times until it finally gave me completion.

That said, I really like the game but I don't know how to continue enjoying it. I feel like I've kind of hit the apex of Skate and it was fun while it lasted but... there needs to be more. I do enjoy skating to my own playlist and that's probably my favorite thing about the game but it gets kind of tiring quick. I may end up trading in Skate toward something I will play more consistently. But if anyone wants to do some Skate online, I'd like to play around with that before I give it up.

Yeah, that's another reason I wanted people to have more then one spot in the "Spot On" vid. Longer sections so that they could pick their own music playing during their lines.

(Personally, I decided on some low-key electronica, Jurassic 5 or Baldwin Brothers for my section).

So I was going to hit this thread and complain about Manny Madness but it looks like I was beaten... by a week. The three times out of fifty I managed to jump over the gap, I always landed on four wheels, no matter how carefully I tried to position the stick.

EDIT: BEATEN. I thought you had to manual across both boxes, but after landing on the first one in a manual, and gapping to grind the second with some kind of tailgrind, I landed off the second in a manual and completed the challenge. Now I can go back to actually enjoying the game.

Also had a funny bit where I faced off against P-Rod in a S.K.A.T.E. challenge, tied 4-4, and beat him when he bailed on... a 180 Nollie Pop Shuvit, which is one of the easier moves in the game.

Yeah, I took no shame from exploiting any glitch or weakness in the endless games of S.K.A.T.E. towards the end, and the same goes for any other such painfully hard challenge (Manny Madness being just such an example, although I did manage to do it properly).

And Spork, nice work. Now I need to go load it up tonight and record some stuff, because I reeeally want to get editing.

I've gotten P-Rod and some other pro dude to bail on an ollie. They'd make the jump perfectly, land perfectly, but for some reason they'd fall off their board.
