If Sam Worthington were at some point replaced by a life-sized cardboard cut-out of himself, I don't think anyone would notice. He always feels to me like he was the MoCap guy who was just reading lines to help the other people in the scene, but they intended to CGI in a Real Actor over top of him. It definitely doesn't help his case that the only things I've seen him in, Terminator Salvation, Avatar, and Clash of the Titans, were three of the most over-hyped shitstorms I've ever endured.

Realizing lately that I don't really trust or respect basically any of the moderators here. So, good luck with life, friends! Hit me up on Twitter @DesertLeviathan

Vin deisel is very charismatic but not a great actor

That's ok though it turns out this is the case for a lot of actors who are very successful

I have a soft spot for the Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movies

Mainly because I have a soft spot for Angelina Jolie and for Tomb Raider

That said I'm hoping the Alicia Vikander film will be much much better

I was talking about the new Tomb Raider with a friend just now and I realized that this isn't quite correct

When Tomb Raider (the movie) hit, I saw it in theaters (my first date!), and for me, Angelina Jolie was that role, but I'm now realizing it's because I'd never seen her in anything else at that point in time. That was my first exposure to her, aside from that whole media kerfuffle where she kissed her brother the wrong way or whatever

And now I also realize that I've never seen Alicia Vikander in anything and kinda want this to repeat itself? I'd very much like my first exposure to her as an actress to be as Lara Croft

The number of actors that aren't just playing a amped up or slightly bent version themselves in movie after movie is staggering. Some of them are pretty darn well regarded too. The people that actually disappear into a role are always my favorites though. Gary Oldman will always have a huge place in my heart for his ability to so fully become a new character time and again.

Yeah, the idea that playing yourself makes you a bad actor seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding of acting to me

I am not saying it makes you a bad actor, after all believable emotion is vastly more important than anything in a perfomance.....but it does at times create a treadmill effect for me. Where an other wise interesting movie can have the draw back of maybe not wanting to see that person again when I just saw them in something else, or even worse is when they are a person I don't really care for in particular and they are in a movie I otherwise might enjoy. Where as if they were the type to disappear into a roll that phenomenon would be less pronounced.

It doesn't make them a bad actor...but it does make choosing a movie they are in less likely for me at times.

porn parody titles are lazy and boring now

it'd be "this ain't jack reacher XXX" or something

That's a shame. When I was young my parents had bought me some giant almanac that I used to bring to grade school and look through for random interesting info with friends. I still remember we came across the section that included some of the best or most successful porn parody titles of that era for some bizarre reason. On Golden Blond and Field of Reams will apparently stay with me until I die. 25-ish years later and they still come to mind immediately when the subject comes up.

One dvd review group once advised that the porn parody dvd of Adam west Batman came with a cut that took out the porn scenes and just had the acting.

    He said it was fun.

I saw Jason Bourne today. It's definitely...fourth best, out of the Damon Bourne movies, and it spends most of the movie looking for a reason to exist.
They kill Julia Stiles in the first big chase sequence of the movie, and then completely forget about her, and they fully don't give a shit about the woman from the first movie, which is super unfortunate. And then they take the guy who killed Julia Stiles and have him be the one who also killed Jason Bourne's dad, which is a story beat we only learn about in this movie that...I dunno, is supposed to be a reason Bourne is doing anything? But he doesn't really seem to give a shit about it?

It's a better belated, unnecessary sequel than Independence Day 2, given that the Bourne series can at least plumb some relevance from current events (they name drop Snowden like, six times), but nobody involved seems to care that much about it, and there's really nobody in this movie that I really care enough about to ratchet up the tension the way this series can when it's firing on all cylinders.

I dunno. I didn't hate it, because that would take more effort than anyone involved seemed to put into making it. Kind of a bummer.

I also did not hate it, but I also don't think it really did anything better than what the previous movies have already done.

I also feel like the fight choreography got worse?

There was like...one classic Bourne fight scene, and it wasn't great, yeah. And none of the chase scenes were up to the standard they'd set in previous movies. Doesn't help that there's no real tension in any of the scenes, because you don't really care what happens to anyone because you're given no reason to.

I thought it was a little dumbed down compared to the previous ones. I felt like the previous movies always made at least an effort to be somewhat plausible and the new one...
Couple of scenes that really irked me:

"Look, a smudge with yellow hair. ENHAAAAANCE" (this is a pet peeve of mine)

"There's a phone in the same room as the laptop! I can use it to delete everything!" (At which point the 4 of us at the theater all went "HOW" simultaneously)

Bourne getting smashed in the head with a 20lb barbell and just shrugging it off is a little ridiculous, so is the SWAT truck plowing through 100 stationary cars

It wasn't a bad movie by any means, it was a perfectly entertaining generic action flick. I just had higher expectations than "generic action flick" from a Bourne movie.

When the porn costume has about 10 times as much material to it than your design, you might have to do some thinking.
