Lion is corrupted Pink Diamond crack theory bandwagon even if it makes little sense as you would think the Crystal Gems would know how Rose defeated Pink Diamond but Pearl didn't know anything about Lion and Bismuth was hidden in the Lion so Rose probably had Lion before anything happened to Pink Diamond.
Don't think I grant that last bit.
Rose pretty clearly set up Lion as a repository for stuff she was unwilling to throw away. That's where her sword was and we know bubbled gems can be moved. Along those lines her storing Bismuth there sorta implies she wanted her to be found I think. She was clearly unwilling to kill her but merely imprisoning her forever doesn't really feel much better.
That was a lot all at once! I wonder if Rose took down Pink Diamond first which is what caused her to take such a firm stance against Bismuth and her crusade to shatter homeworld gems, or after, and is forever a mark of shame?
yeah they seem to be prioritizing having it happen fast enough to be impactful over drawn out dance sequences pretty consistently in the last few episodes.
The whole elaborate dance thing was partly to sync emotional states. Amethyst and Steven basically have their little conversation and sync up without any external aids since the whole point is they totally get each other.
I think I'm just gonna avoid any sort of analogy for the Jasper fusion. I don't see it going to nice places.
In not spoiler news I saw an awesome Rose Quartz cosplay at Gen Con. Wish I'd thought to snap a picture. She nailed the hair, the dress, everything. Which isn't really mention worthy but I saw the same woman on Sunday in just a tshirt and shorts and my first thought was she must have dyed her hair instead of used a wig because it was still pink even though she didn't have it curled but rather had it pulled back. Then I noticed she was wearing the Steven Universe band shirt and was cosplaying the casual Rose from one of the flashback episodes.
Eminently practical last day of con cosplay there.

something about Jasper being grown on Earth kinda bothers me.
Like, I'd called that she and Amethyst were the same gem type last year, so maybe I shoulda also assumed Jasper was grown on Earth... but I dunno. It feels like a retcon. There's never been any kind of hint that Jasper had any familiarity or attachment to Earth at all, y'know?
And it doesn't feel contradictory to anything that was already established. It's just... odd feeling?
Like they felt the revelation about Amethyst being a defective Jasper wasn't enough, they had to add to the similarity by both being Earth born?

well, Jasper doesn't have any attachment to earth. She basically seems to view it as a pit she only escaped by being the best fighter.

Given how few lines Jasper has had, this is...completely baseless. I mean, alright I get that you feel that way but it's based on pretty much nothing.
But yes they are parallels. Jasper came from nothing, was the best, and has cripplingly high expectations placed upon her implicitly. Amethyst came from top tier material, was defective, and had zero expectations placed upon her which messes with her in a similar but opposite way.
I know! That's what I mean, there's nothing to contradict, it just feels off.
I'm mostly surprised that
a lot of the gems we know of have turned out to be much younger than I originally anticipated. I always assumed Rose and Jasper probably predated the Earth colony by thousands of years. How much of Homeworld had Rose even seen? I wouldn't have expected Pearl to be the oldest of the original team, but she's definitely traveled the galaxy a lot as per Space Race, and it seems like that would have to have been largely pre-Earth.

There is precedence - Pearl and Garnet formed Sardonyx super quick when they were in the crushing trap of Peridot's last season. There was barely enough room for both of them to stand and it closed right after Sardonyx popped out.

Also, I wonder how Garnet and Pearl will take it when they learn that the first Crystal Gem that Stephen fused with was Amethyst and not them? More hurt for Pearl that Rose didn't choose her first?

So I suspect we might be exploring more possible fusions very shortly.

Yeah, Garnet isn't really the jealous type and I feel like Pearl would find the idea of fusing with Steven offputting in a number of different ways.

way back at the end of giant woman they said straight out Steven would learn to fuse with them. It was him fusing with Connie that was unprecedented.

I kind of thought Pearl was just humoring him, and that Garnet was the only one who was taking that exercise seriously. Or maybe not even her, comparing that sequence to We Need To Talk.

I really like that Lapis and Peridot are getting on pretty well.
It's also nice to see Lapis happy.
Hoo boy, that last half...
Smoky Quartz is fantastic. A yo-yo is a perfect fusion weapon.
Good lord, forced fusion. That's a can of worms I don't want to get into.
And the gem corruption spreading to Jasper as a result? Good lord. :?
But at least now Jasper's story seems to be over with. I think?
I guess we'll see what happens with the Rubes tomorrow. :P
why do people keep saying jasper's story is over? If anything, this is probably the most lines jasper has ever gotten in one episode, and is the stepping stone to her becoming a bigger (and potentially more sympathetic) character.

because they don't know how to reverse corruption, thats like a huge plot point

she is right now an incoherent monster
They bring up corruption so much in the last few episodes that the prospect of healing it seems more and more like an immediate thing they'll try to address. Maybe jasper will be the first gem he successfully cures of it.
I already wanted to see every possible fusion, and then they went and introduced monster fusion. If it weren't for the corruption I'd want to see every possible monster fusion.
Maybe Steven will somehow cure Centipeetle for good by fusing with her despite the risk of corruption?
jasper will obviously come back in the not too far future
maybe if you are viewing it from the perspective of the characters it doesn't seem like that, but if you view it from the perspective of people making a show its different
she's been getting more and more focus, she's been showing up in promotional materials, we are just starting to get background information on her, she has interesting relations to multiple characters that are ripe for exploring (the jasper/amethyst rivalry thing, her relation to rose, her deal with lapis, the confusion she feels about fusion)
plus she would nicely round out the homeworld gem number to 3 to match the crystal gems
also her VA was fantastic these past few episodes, and her arc hasn't come to any sort of conclusion
in conclusion jasperdemption is real, wail and gnash your teeth while you can, blame yourself or god

for sure, Jasper probably going nowhere, but this feels like a game changer. I've never been great at guessing where the plot in this show will go to, but the idea that the only real clear and present danger would get corrupted kinda came out of nowhere. Assuming Yellow Diamond is endgame, Jasper was kind of 'it' for the foreseeable future.
Course, the Rubies are back, and they all about finding Jasper. Probably gonna unleash her...
Hey speaking of them, anyone think it weird that Jasper is the target of the Rubies? Peridot seemed to outrank her (she speaks about Jasper being assigned to her in the distress call) so the mission failing is her fault, plus she was openly insubordinate to Yellow D. Yet she's unimportant to the Rubies, and they just want the muscle. Wassup with that?
Oh brilliant

except a buddy who was watching it accidentally spoiled the best part about it for me over the phone. >:(
I dunno there are a lot of best parts.
And some foreshadowing:
