What's next week - Funeral for Fred as he dies from the Zika virus...?
No offence Katie, but much as I love this comic series, I can't help but think this one is a little... irresponsible, given the current issue with a certain virus transferred by mosquitoes.
@DWT, Zika is generally not fatal (nor even particularly serious... 80% show no symptoms), but can cause microcephaly (a devastating birth defect) in a fetus whose mother has the virus. While our knowledge continues to evolve, you can see http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/health/what-is-zika-virus.html for a recently updated FAQ.
In June, an elderly person who did have the Zika virus died, but it is entirely unclear whether the virus actually contributed to or caused death, despite some sensationalized reporting. "Zika virus death" = misleading (kutv.com). "Utah resident with Zika dies" = more factual (fox13now.com). Most reported "Zika-related death" which at least hedges a little.
But I'm with the kid who would squish the mosquito ;-)
@DAVIDHBROWN - fair point. However - Zika aside - mosquitoes kill around 1mm people a year (source: WHO) - so I'd be killing that damn thing the moment it got near me!
Three notes:
1) I think that Fred's bowl is empty, he was just pretending to stir food.
2) "Everyone deserves a good meal" means that Fred has some sort of plan to use a live mosquito to acquire food.
3) I cannot imagine a plan for acquiring food that involves a mosquito, can you?
How many deaths per year are caused by humans? Does that mean we should kill every human we meet? Fred isn't going to kill an innocent mosquito over the crimes of other mosquitos.
That's all cute, but Tanner's teeth make me fall out of my chair clutching my heart every time I see that adorable gap. It's an overstatement, but you get the idea.

Maybe frog's legs?
"They were not hungry but the wolves were."
That would actually be Jaundice. Or more likely just a bad monitor color profile.
