They were some sort of sci-fi grenades in the 2099 version.

The super hero squad stuff is incredible

They made a figure of Frank from when he was wearing a weird hybrid Punisher/Captain America suit and fighting the new KKK Hate-monger!

  • djmitchelladjmitchella Registered User regular
Yeah, Super Hero Squad is a neat offshoot of continuity. The "Mental Organism Designed Only for Kissing" episode is another fun one.

The sad thing is, that's a weak-sauce retread of the original version.

They didn't do a Punisher 2099 Armory, so I guess we'll never know. But as long as we're talking Punisher future weapons...

I really liked Mark Waid's Daredevil. That book knew how to have fun with the character.

I found this neat little comic called Barbarian Lord. It's your standard questing adventurer story with a quirk being when any character of note is mortally wounded, they get extremely chatty.

If I ever come up with a line half as good as "selfless man-beast made me a fine gift of his skull-splitter on return for my offering of a broken stick--it is a hard thing to be shamed in this way by another's generosity," I will consider my life well-spent.

I'm rereading an old DC Comics Presents annual, with Superman and Captain Marvel fighting Dr. Sivana, and Sivana called Captain Marvel "le grand fromage rouge."

He certainly has a way with nicknames.

Line for line, except they can't use Kitty since mutants and all that.
Instead, the role of Kitty will be taken by Tony Stark (since he's the most likely to have access to a super long range comm device).

Wait, he doesn't get the "peanut butter in my chocolate" reference but he drops the "Duck season/fire" thing from old Loony Toons eps?
How old is this Spider-Man, and why doesn't time work right in that world?

To explain this would require explaining One More Day, and I'd rather get punched in the head.

I am guessing he is still under-age but smart since he can't get that peanut butter reference

That was an ad slogan from the 70's and 80's and was out of use in the 90's. Teenagers/young adults could easily not have seen it and not been exposed to the years of follow up references.

Looney Toons are forever. It'd be child abuse to deprive a child of that.

Oh, thought that was still in use for some reason.
I guess, once again, I've proven that I am the old.

See, that's the thing: the slogan was re-introduced to a new generation by Family Guy.
    YouTube clip

I think that there isn't, really, a big age range of people who wouldn't get the reference for one reason or another.

  • OrogogusOrogogus San DiegoRegistered User regular
One gag in an episode of Family Guy re-introduced a commercial jingle to a new generation? That seems... kind of unlikely. My friend's kids are 19 and 24, and the only '80s references they get are probably Star Wars ones. ET, Mr. T and Toys R Us Kids are closed books to them.

Rebirth is pretty good, Flintstones is bloody amazing (to everybody's suprise). Young Animals titles are really good if you are into Morrison's Doom Patrol.
