@Dark Raven X Thank you for sharing your first impressions. You're really making me want to replay ME2!

Oh my goodness, I just did the specialist training dealie to get an extra skill after doing a loyalty mission? Heavy Energy Drain is like vampire Overload. I've re-specced just to put all my points in it vs Overload, cause it seems better in every way. Still busting shields and bots, but now the juice becomes my shield. I AM A BIOTIC GOD

on Miranda's loyalty mission right now. Brought Jack. Gonna take Miranda on Jack's too, this is fun. :tell_me_more:
    This is a good decision.

Another good decision is bringing Grunt on Mordin's, but it doesn't affect it as much. The best is [REDACTED] on Tali's loyalty mission (and vice versa) but you can do that on the next playthrough. Because there will be another one.

I dunno, Garrus on Mordin has some pretty funny dialogue. And Tali on Mordin is funny for the motivational speech.

I'm still miffed that Origin can't detect that I already have my Mass Effects installed on my old hard drive on my new computer. Like, I target my origins file, but nope.

I'm pissed that somehow it doesn't recognize that I actually do have lair of the Shadowbroker already. That is a fun mission.

I cheated with the wiki for planetary exploration but yeah I'm half way through Virmire and all assignments are completed.

Don't think I'm going to manage to hit 60 this time but eh

I've done at least 6 100%s of Mass Effect.

    ...

I might be a little brain damaged

Did I mention I came here for the Mass Effect threads?

Like DarkPrimus though, most of those were before ME2 and 3 came out...

Oh sure, I've done a handful of 'complete' runs myself, but looking back... man, that was way more investment than it probably warranted. I don't think I'll ever actually do one again at this point.

I also did maybe 5-6 lvl 60 runs of ME1. I'd love for a re-mastering to make it more playable so I could re-visit it.

Doing a 100% run of ME isn't bad if you really like shooting things from so far away they can't fight back.

And cheat with maps of the planets of course

Well, every single system has a planet you can land on. Just grid that thing out (since the Attican Traverse is almost-but-not-quite horizontal lines) and hit every single one from top to bottom (or bottom to top). Not every mission needs the dialog permission, either. For example, I've gotten Wrex's family armor without even recruiting Wrex himself.

I accidentally did that one this time without getting the mission from Wrex which ended up being kind of funny

"This is where my father's armor is!"

"Ok, uh, that's cool we'll totally help you get it back! It's not like were going to open the door, kill everyone inside and then ransack the place before or anything so yeah this is all for you, big guy *double thumbs up*"

Isn't that just called "being a sniper"?

Well soldier in this case rather than infiltrator but yeah it works about the same when it comes to ME1. Just with added shotgun hilarity on this run.

I'm sure I'll miss cloak sniping in ME2/3 but I'm hoping that's countered by assault rifles not being terrible.

    @Dark Raven X

A bit of min/max for the level stuff in ME2, if you're interested
You cap at level 30, full stop. Shepard gets 51 points for levelling, which works out so that there's 3 Rank 4 skills, 3 Rank 3 skills, and 1 Rank 2. Miranda and Jacob get 31 points, which means Cerberus did something right they max out three skills and have one rank in a fourth, probably their bonus. The other 10 henchmen get 30 points which means BioWare is bad at math you can either max 3 skills and leave the last one empty, or have 1 Rank 4 skill with 3 at Rank 3 (with 2 points left on the table). This rundown also works for Miranda, Jacob, and the Lair of the Shadow Broker squadmate (are we spoiling that?) since those three don't have enough otherwise.

    edit: Fixed a number.

There are a good handful of UNC missions that are genuinely interesting. Most of them are just "kill everything once you find the prefab".

Just to drag it out even longer make sure you whittle the enemy down with the Mako then jump out and finish it off with your own weapons just to get that sweet, sweet xp bonus. Or to avoid that sour, sour xp penalty from the Mako. Whichever way you want to look at it.

  • KrieghundKrieghund Registered User regular
Screw that, lol. I usually play as if I was making the decisions IRL. So the Mako will cannon guys just walking around, any Geth walker, and basically make my life easier by killing as many people as possible.

I will pull up to a group of guys in the mako, hop out and kill them and then hop back in and drive away because lol get rekt Geth

That's why the Krogan are so tough. They get more XP before they even hit adulthood!

    Gonna go git this IFF.
Reapers are bigger than I remember. D:

Beat Thane's loyalty mission. That was probably the best one. Some good acting right there. Michael Hogan was a nice guy for once too. <3

So wassup with Drells? They have perfect memory, that's why Thane seems to have flashbacks whenever remembering stuff? I like Thane a lot, wish I'd recruited him earlier.

BUT HEY, I got everyone recruited now, all loyal. Time to do main story stuff.

    Oh brilliant

    Oh you :ellipses:

Seriously though, all the companions in ME2 are great, probably my favorite team from any BW game to date, though I really do wish that they'd gone further with jack; she was sold to us on being an unstable orb of pure anrachism but for the most part she's pretty stable.

Also IFF mission to final mission spoilers
The secret to saving the crew and bringing Legion on Tali's loyalty mission is

Do everything except Tali's loyalty mission -> Do IFF -> Do Tali's mission -> Do Legion's mission

    ...right?

    Incorrect.

    Spoilers from IFF to endgame
I've played it several ways, and the game gives you leeway to do loyalty missions after IFF. I enjoy bringing Legion on Tali's loyalty mission. The game will delay crew abduction until you've recruited Legion, done Tali's loyalty, and done Legion's loyalty. It will not delay if you go somewhere other than the loyalty missions.

Personally, I prefer to recruit Tali after the IFF.

    (Spoiler for IFF mission)
After I get Legion up and running, I take it and Grunt to Haestrom. Legion gets better reactions, and Grunt doesn't even have shields to deplete.
