PAX West 2016 Tabletop Happenings

edited September 2016 in PAX West
For those among us who want a consolidated list of everything Tabletop, Board Game, or RPG related at the show, here you go!

The list below includes MORE than what is listed in Guidebook, in particular regarding what's on WSCC Levels 2 and 3. It also keeps everything grouped together by where you'll find it at the show. I also hunted through all of the Panels and put together a list of any that are Tabletop-related as well, at the bottom of this list.

Know of anything I've missed? Please add a comment below, or send me a message! I’ll try to keep this list as updated as I can up until showtime.

If you're interested in listing community tabletop events as well, @LexiconGrrl is hosting the pre-PAX Boardgame Night on Thursday from 4PM until way late on the second floor of the Sheraton.

Added, thank you for the reminder!

Does anyone know if Catan tournament is still run by Mayfair? Normally there is a blurb in the event description listing it as a national qualifier event, but this year there is no info, and it's not listed on the official Catan event page...

Last I heard, the Catan event will not be a national qualifier run by Mayfair. It will just be a low-key event run by us Enforcers, with the PAX WEST 2016 medal as the prize. If I hear otherwise, I'll update here, and we'll have more info at the TT Tourney Admin Desk, in the Olive 8 3rd Floor Ballroom.

Suppose someone hasn't played any D&D in a good five years or so and they wanted to play some 5e at PAX - Where would you suggest they go to dust off those dice?

The D&D Experience on Level 2 of the Annex will have you covered! They will be running 4-hour** (whoops, as noted below, 2-hour) sessions all weekend long - Just head to the D&D floor (one floor above Console Freeplay in the Annex) and the expert DMs of the D&D Adventurer's League and Baldman Games will get you going.

Actually each play session is 2 hours, but over the weekend you could play up to 7 different adventures. 2 are Acquisitions Incorporated (2 different 2 hour adventures) and 5 mini adventures for the new season of public play, Storm Kings Thunder http://dnd.wizards.com/dungeons-and-dragons/story/storm-kings-thunder

I remember where the White Wizard Games crew was banished to last year in one of the hotels out of the way. It's super nice seeing that they've got a booth on the 6th floor this year, and one of my friends is gonna be helping to work it!

On a related note, I will be walking around with my Star Realms, Cthulhu Realms, and EPIC sets if anyone wants to learn/play* :D

While Timoon's link does not state that D&D sessions will be 2 hours long, I can corroborate from other sources - this is in fact how they will be run.

@Lackey Do you know where one would run an RPG? I'm looking to have a session of Sleeper at PAX West and I'm struggling to see how I can do that.

  • LackeyLackey [E] PAX Tabletop Tournaments Registered User regular

@kropotkin There are a few things you can do to run a session of an RPG:

First, you might want to contact the Indie RPG Games on Demand folks, who will be running events out of four rooms on the WSCC 3rd Floor. They can be found at:
http://www.indiegamesondemand.org (via their Contact Us form)
    https://www.facebook.com/GoD.RPG
    https://twitter.com/Games_On_Demand

See if they would be able to include Sleeper as one of their available Games, and they could help promote it and sign people up to play in a session.

But if going through Games on Demand is not an option, and you want to set up a specific start time for a session of Sleeper yourself, there will be Whiteboards in both the Tabletop HQ (WSCC Rm. 204) as well as at the Tournament Events registration table in the Hyatt Olive 8 Ballroom. You can add information on how to contact you on the whiteboards, and in the Olive 8 ballroom you can talk to either myself (9am-2pm daily) or AceTracer (overall Tournaments lead - he'll always be there) to get the OK to leave a signup sheet for Sleeper on our signups table. We'd likely even be able to mark a table as Reserved for you in one of the Olive 8 side rooms (The Cyan Room, most likely) for the hours you'd plan to run your session.

Finally, PAX Tabletop encourages the use of the #ttlfg hashtag on Twitter (Tabletop - Looking For Group). For 6 years+ now, PAX tabletop attendees have been using this hashtag as a way to quickly find people who are looking for players for their game.

So a tweet like: "Come play the awesome Sleeper RPG Friday 7pm. Signup sheet in the Olive 8 Ballroom #paxwest #ttlfg" will help get the word out.

PAX does not use a site like Warhorn.net for pre-show event scheduling - our general policy has been to give everyone at the show the same chance to explore and find cool things to do, instead of learning about an event only to find that it's already full before the show starts.

    I hope this helps!

This is amazing. What a wonderful gift to Tabletop/RPG players. Thanks @Lackey

Hello Gamers! I have a rather curious game at PAX I would LOVE for you to play. Eon Altar from Flying Helmet Games. We've managed to create a video game that mimics a tabletop RPG. True story! We are at Booth 6909 and we've got some cool low budget swag too (Indie). Only 9% of our players hate us, so that's pretty awesome.

My team and I will be sneaking away from our booth to check out some of the other happenings Lackey made SO easy for us to find. So hope to see you out and about somewhere!
