    Like oh man

I can't even imagine walking into a restaurant and saying "no onions or garlic"

like the cooks would just throw up their hands in defeat

you know what's challenging? not being able to eat garlic or onions (or powders or extracts thereof)

given the obstacle and still wishing to prepare delicious savory meals, what do you use instead to replicate the divine taste of caramelized onions and roast garlic?

Is it ANY vegetables in that family? because that also rules out leeks, shallots, chives and ramps, all of which ALSO DELICIOUS.

I don't even know where I would start trying to replicate that flavour without those things.

I ate at Chili's yesterday, because that's where the birthday gift card from work was for. The Honey-Chipotle Shrimp & Sirloin was actually pretty tasty! The cheesecake for dessert was pretty wretched though, tasted like it had been made from "simulated artificial Cheezcaek" chemicals and extruded from a machine big oily machine. It was to Cheesecake what the McRib sandwich is to actual BBQ Ribs. The fried cheese curd appetizer tasted good, but was a smaller portion than I'd get at a Culver's for 1/3rd the price.

So, I guess, after calculating in that it was free, the experience managed to break even - neither truly disappointing nor pleasing.

Realizing lately that I don't really trust or respect basically any of the moderators here. So, good luck with life, friends! Hit me up on Twitter @DesertLeviathan

The best way to experience Chili's.

The frozen Arby's fries you can buy at the grocery store are identical to the restaurant ones. Easy way to feel like a sack of junk at home!

my parents sent me a box of brownie mix from the states.

I made said brownies on Sunday, adding in some dried cranberries because I can.

I have eaten 3/4s of the pan of brownies. It's Tuesday. And I haven't eaten any today.

    I feel absolutely zero regret.

other than it needed more craisins.

Walmart did not have tikka massala chips. They did however have szechuan chicken + biscuits and gravy so I got both of those.

I need to fry fewer fries at a time next time. The flavor was good, but the fries didn't have the crunch I wanted.

I'd like to know more about the oven you used.

    @mego thor

Sorry, don't know how I missed this

It was an Uuni which is a small wood pellet fired pizza oven that was on kickstarter. My folks have one and its sold me on it completely - my wife and I have been making pizzas with it fairly frequently. I think theres a second version now? Theres definitely some 'art' to using it but I think we have become pretty damn deft with making pizzas with it. Its just been a very enjoyable experience to use despite some small pizza accidents (oops accidental calzone! not burns)

I don't know if I would recommend it for an apartment balcony because it can put out quite a bit of smoke starting up (and gets ridiculously hot), but its perfect even with a small back yard.

in other news, i remembered that you are allowed to ask for different noodles when ordering laksa

so my local noodle place had jumped from 'pretty alright' to 'i would be buying laksa all the time if i had the money'

    egg noodles, man

Why would you even grill bread only to soak it in liquid. For that matter, why bother melting the cheese?

That video is a perfect example of why 'molecular gastronomy' is dumb and the shit your parents made in the 70s is actual Real Food.

That depends VERY strongly on whether the shit your parents made in the 70s was tuna casserole or some of the weird as fuck coked-out shit from 70s dinner party cookbooks.

My parents made excellent curries in the 70's

They hold up 30 years later
Don't eat 40 year old curry.

Also, the Bad Food Thread needs to have FoodPorn tweets in the OP.
