    End of locked thread'd:

Hey. So my birthday is next week. It's 20, which I suppose isn't as big as 21 in the US of A, but you know, fuck, the last time I did anything celebratory for my birthday was many years ago. I kind of want to do some celebrating times.

    Anyone got suggestions? In NYC?
I was thinking of going out to dinner... then going to do drunken karaoke somewhere. K-town seems like an ideal place for both... never actually been to a real Korean restaurant and I'd like to try it. Any suggestions for dinner and after dinner events, e.g. drunken karaoke (any suggestions for places?), or anything else fun like that?

Also, I just checked a friend's profile on Facebook for updates, and realised he has me as a restricted friend.

I mean, he's the one who looked me up and added me as a friend in the first place. Why would he do that if he doesn't actually want me as a friend? This makes no sense.

    Alright, crisis averted.

Wii obtained. Wii verified to be in box. Unless it's some incredible facsimile that is made from the same parts, I have officially managed to get a Wii. Finally.

    Story follows:

So for those not in the know, I got a Wii bundle last night from the local TJ Maxx, only to open it and find 3 bricks and some newspapers in it. Scam city. So I called the manager and he said that "he had to make some calls" and to come in "some time tomorrow."

I made up some bullshit excuse about being very busy today, and said I would come in at 10 in the morning. So I go in today, Bundle-Box with bricks in arm, and asked to speak to the manager.

He comes over and apologizes profusely, but as he is talking I'm realizing that he's talking like there's nothing he could do. I said, politely, that I would like a Wii, seeing as that's what I paid 400 dollars for yesterday.

He said he needed to make some calls to corporate and the shipping company, and he needed to verify where the package came from before anything could be done. "How long will that take?" I asked.

"It might be friday before I can make some progress on this, but it's the holiday weekend so maybe later."

I said "That's unacceptable. I paid for a Wii yesterday and I was scammed outright."

He said, "Oh, don't worry sir. You will get a Wii in any event, no matter what the outcome of this."

"So you have one in the store, then?"

"Yes, we have one more. We will hold it for you."

"I don't know that. I don't know that you have one in the store at all. Can I see it?"

"We will hold it for you, sir."

"Why? If I'm getting one in any event what does it matter if I get it now or Friday or next week?"

    "Sir, I'm afraid I can't help you."

It was at this point I decided I was not leaving until that Wii was in my hands. So I pulled out all the stops.

I told him I would be going straight from the store to the police department to register the theft. I would then contact the Better Business Bureau and provide a record of what happened over the last couple days.

He got very pale, and said "Hold on sir, I will be right back." He made a phone call and returned 5 minutes later. "I can give you the Wii now," he said.

I thanked him and he brought it from the back room. A Wii bundle, looking similar to the one I had brought home last night. "Please open it, right here, in front of me," I asked him.

He complied. I went carefully through and made sure each and every part was present. I checked the wrapping on the Wii itself and made sure it was in the box.

I thanked him for his time, and left.

Totally don't even need to be. It's not a video game, it's a fucking experience.

Seriously though, the campaign mode makes GH3 feel like antiquated crap.

You did the right thing by threatening to escalate the situation, they all fear bad publicity more then anything else. That, and going over their heads. Deep down the managers all know they are just as replaceable as the lowest level employees.

Man Rock Band is enormous fun. Frankie stepped up and switched between drums and vocals and she's not bad. It really does give the sense of cooperative making music. Doing vocals on "Wave of Mutilation" was tons of fun. I sucked at the drums, but imagine that I'd improve with practice.

The guitar parts are probably somewhat easier than their equivalents on Guitar Hero, but then again I'm a guy who never cleared "Hard" on GH2 and could barely even break into "Hard" on GH3. The challenge seems fine to me. The note mapping feels appropriate.

The "Star Power" or "Energy" thing is a little different and I've not completely figured it out yet. I vastly prefer the art style of Rock Band to that of GH3 - it's a lot more like GH2 as you'd probably expect. Thus far, any product placement has been entirely in the background and not, like, "The Axe Body Spray Guitar".

The track list is IMO much stronger and really is a lot of fun.

All in all, if you have at least one other person willing to play it with you, I highly recommend it.

Also, Mass Effect is pretty great. Just having bought both games makes me wish I were just staying home over Thanksgiving rather than going to see my family :P

Dude, that's a reason for them to come to you. At least bring that shit with you. I know I'm bringing my Wii to my cousin's house for Thanksgiving. That yuppie shithead shelters his kids from all kinds of things, I might just rent Manhunt 2 and "accidentally" bring it.

Uh, yeah I thought that would be obvious from the way Zep hasn't been in any musical styled videogame ever.

They've been notorious for being protective of their catalog, though they've softened somewhat recently.
