Twitter is just... not as good as facebook. I got one last year, and it can be fun, but it's much harder to follow conversations and picture threads and there are no where near as many useful things like event organisation and group chats on it.
Google+ is even more of a ghost town than it was in 2014. I haven't even bothered looking at mine in years. I wonder how MySpace is going after their buyout and rebranding?
I find the speed at which things happen on Twitter with active users to be overwhelming and the interface is garbage for actually following conversations. IMs will always be the perfect form of communication for me. Which is, incidentally, 90% of what I use Facebook for.

Twitter I can take or leave, but I am commited to FB because my friends use it heavily for organizing and communicating. There was a wave of people who left a couple years ago, but most came back after realzing they weren't getting invites for get to gethers.
It is a little sad, actually. One of my friends and her boyfriend have literally vanished from my social circle because of this. Whenever I see her around, she's enraged about how no one ever invites them to anything anymore. She refuses to get back on FB and blames everyone for not just emailing or texting her.
She's not wrong, but it is just the way it is. FB is concenient and people forget.

My facebook "people you may know" widget is nearly entirely scary clowns (there's a few sexy clowns too). I assume this is an adverting thing? They are all very original and very unique.
It might just be the facebook algorithm reacting to people reacting to the latest meme of scary clowns.

Yahoo has officially announced that it will acquire Tumblr in a $1.1 billion cash deal expected to close in the second half of the year, and will keep Tumblr's David Karp on as CEO. "Per the agreement and our promise not to screw it up,"
Verizon has agreed to sell Tumblr to WordPress owner Automattic Inc. for an undisclosed amount, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Verizon, which first acquired Tumblr in 2017 after it purchased Yahoo, started to explore a sale earlier this year. Automattic reportedly bought Tumblr for less than $3 million, according to Axios, a stunning drop in value from the $1.1 billion Yahoo paid for it in 2013.

Tumblr's advertising is incredibly mismanaged too. I can't recall when it first manifest, but at some point their system decided I was a 65+ deeply conservative golf lover with a big heap of disposable income for travel. Scrolling through my dashboard right now, the first twenty ads are:
- 3 soliciting donations for the Trump Campaign by pretending to be impartial surveys
- 4 soliciting donations for the RNC by pretending to be impartial surveys
- 1 for heartworm medication for dogs
- 5 for golf accessories
- 2 for AARP membership
- 1 for some kind of medication that's being dodgy enough about saying what it does that it's probably either boner pills or a bowel thing
- 2 for Wyoming vacation packages
- 1 for a Las Vegas vacation package
- 1 for an Alaska cruise package
Before I stopped using it, my content was about 35% drawings of Batman, 35% D&D, 20% reblogged social justice topics, and 10% Muppets fandom. I'm not really sure what part of that made them assume my ad profile belonged in the Fox News demographic, but I can scroll past that shit just fine, none of that was the actual deal breaker. But then I saw how many perfectly innocent LGBT issues blogs were being nuked by the porn ban, maliciously mislabeled "adults only" and swept into the trash, and today's the first time since December that I've logged in.

If you aren’t feeling bad, or addicted to social media, I don’t think you should feel bad for using it, or consider quitting it. Unless you feel you are just wasting time.
I've recently found myself with too much free time and not much to do that isn't gaming/reading/watching stuff. All my real life friends currently live too far away to do stuff with.
Since I currently live about an hour from my home town, I figure I can try and reconnect with some old high school friends so I can get out off the house occasionally and not go stir crazy. Pop down for dinner and catch up and such.
Unfortunately, I don't really know a way to reconnect outside of Facebook which I'm not a fan of. So I guess I'll finally be making a Facebook page. Probably won't post much or anything, just try to direct message people or something. And blanket ban all family members so I don't have to deal with selectively blocking the ones who constantly post terrible political things.
Or I could just forget all that and figure out how to make new friends. There's probably a website for that, right? I seem to remember when I used OKCupid years ago it had an option for searching for friends instead of romantic partners.
Only social media that I feel I have to use is Facebook and is mostly for the groups function, since a lot of groups are very, very useful. For example, I got through a lot of bureaucratic procedures by following FB gossip.

I'm trying to get an art side-hustle going which means opening up second social media accounts for my pen name. Now I manage two twitters and two instagrams, two tumblrs (although I don't really use my personal tumblr anymore) and two reddits.
I deleted Facebook though so at least I have that going for me. Unfortunately some people have said Facebook is a better way to make money through art than insta or tumblr.

You setup a username on Slack and join a "team". My boss and I moved all of our internal IM to Slack last year and it's worked out really well.
Like parents actually not sending their kids to school due to threats of clowns and/or kids claiming to have encountered clowns out in the wild.
Seems mostly to be a prank that went viral and then other kids hear about it and kept perpetuating it with little-to-no clowns actually involved.
