On the way home yesterday I stopped and bought Star Trek Beyond and watched it to cheer myself up.
There are times where that movie tops my list of favorite Star Trek Movies, like yesterday. Overall though I lives as #3, below Wrath of Khan and Voyage Home.
My wife and I are going to the movies this weekend. I really want to see Doctor Strange in 3D before it leaves theaters (or 3D), and we don't get out very often to see movies. But The Arrival's hype is making me question that decision. I know my wife wants to see both, but I think she really wants to see The Arrival more. She's mad at me today, so I'll be nice and say we should see that instead. We can see Doctor Strange next week.

Saw Arrival today, I really liked it a lot, wasn't expecting it to turn up at my local multiplex (It has 2!! screens) but pleased that it did.
Nice to see a straight up Scifi film that both didn't descend into an action film in the back third, and covered a genuinely alien species in a great way.

Not read a single bad thing about Arrival yet, can't wait to see it
“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Denis Villeneuve is a pretty goddamn great director.
I'm really looking forward to his take on Blade Runner.

Saw Arrival at the Drafthouse, which had a Q&A with the screenwriter. Neat bit of trivia: not only did they actually create the alien language for the film, but that translator software shown on screen? That wasn't some CG nonsense, but an actual, working program that was legit translating it, made by the son of Stephan Wolfram (the Mathmatica dude). It's that kind of unnecessary-but-thorough nerddom that I totally expect and buy for the film.

Oh he's the one doing Blade Runner? Suddenly I am a lot more interested.

The movie literally goes out of its way to avoid an action scene because DISCOVERY IS HAPPENING and I kinda love it for that.

The comics are pretty fun, and I'm such a mark for French Sci-Fi
I don't know if it was mentioned in the last thread but Pacific Rim 2 has started filming, so it's actually real for the moment!

yes, it was

Actually Creed is the 7th Rocky movie.
So I'm going to do one of the only things that truly makes me relaxed & happy.
I'm going to drunkenly watch Army of Darkness while I finish off a bunch of cheap beer.
This exercise is damn near religious for me at this point.
I have to see this movie.
