Bugs have always been the forgotten underclass of the pokemon world, sadly.
Them and poison.
And guess what two types get combined all the time!
Poison got a little less bad when Psychic fell from grace and Fighting rose to prominence. At least as a secondary typing. And now poison STAB is ALMOST kind of sort of useful with Fairy being a thing.
Misdreavus, Murkrow, Gliger, and Yanma were all fantastic Pokémon that got fantastic evolutions
The thing about gen 2 designs like Yanma is, like...okay, a dragonfly pokemon, that's cool. Except its stats are complete and utter crap compared to a dozen other Bug/Flying pokemon that are STILL BAD. Why even release a pokemon like that, which will never be looked at or used? What's the point of going out of your way to make it suck on purpose? It can't hold a candle to Scyther's stats in a gen where Scyther EVOLVED.

butterfree and kricketune are a big help in that regard

VikaVolt and Charjabug doubles is a fun if super gimmicky idea
Charjabug's Battery charges up special attacks of its partner in doubles, Vikavolt's base special attack is already crazy high
Electroweb hits all enemies on the other side and gives -1 speed
Rayquaza is the only good pokemon.

Im half hoping for a day one patch and the speed stats are fixed. Like half of these make no sense
Poison has Gengar tho..
