I know something big is coming, but wow, check out those kids.
Their designs, their expressions. Each one tells a story. It's amazing.

Top panel, far right. I swear that kid with the big ear and the shaved head is in the camp.

The deepening sense of isolation, from panel to panel, leans on the spirit until it leaves an elbowmark.

I think you're thinking of Hugo:
    http://nairbgolb.blogspot.com/2016/11/campwcharacters.html

He has a shaved head with a red tuft, but he's a little different from the bus kid.

That kid in the top right panel, bottom right, half his head; hair isn't quite Neimans, but that would make sense if he used to be clean. I will bet one half of one feral cat (tug of war for the other half) that Neiman and Brian are known to one another in the OUTER LAND.

Brian looks so small in those last two panels...
That can't be a good sign.

Right now I have to read this first before I hit up Penny Arcade so I have something funny to cleanse my sad palette.

Brian looks so little....I wonder how long he's been at camp.

    Based on Do,
    http://campcomic.com/comic/do
He was there before Seventeen. And he still had his shorter hair and shoes.

But, if he had never been abandoned, he never would have met Seventeen, and they're so good for each other (and Malachi!). There's a really sweet extra strip in the book that expands upon their first meeting and it's heart melting.

Why do I get the feeling the next panel is going to totally destroy us all? Like full on end of the world sadness?

NOPE. naw man, nope, not great. Sad. Too sad, it's ALREADY too sad. And what does Dufford mean? IS IT A PUN? My weeping puddle of a heart can'Dufford to read the next comic.

Even the plants in the window boxes are dead...what's going on in that house?!

My bet is that he's alone in this house. Nobody but him.

I thought they were climbing plants. If they're dead... D:

Theory: we know Brian is new, what if he's already been abandoned several times and the Duffords are his latest (and last) foster family?

    My imagination is going wild.
Just look at Blondie McAsshole staring daggers at Brian.

I'm fairly sure this is completely not the point, but it looks like the pick-up flag is on the wrong corner of the mailbox (diagonally)... or maybe the flag is just backwards and the mailbox points toward the house instead of the street? Hmm. Artist lives in a city or one more symbol of isolation?

I think you're right. If it was a mailbox across the street the flag should be left not right. If the Dufford's mailbox is that house, the flag should be up towards the front. It's on the right side, just on the wrong end. Or at least my mailbox flag is on that side, but the hinge is closer the opening and the flag is on the right if I'm viewing from the comic's view.

Loving the various designs of the background children here and the shading.

Also the kid on the bus in front of Brian looks like Rudy Tabootie!
