how long do y'all think a generation lasts
Oo! oh! If my childhood of end times prophecy taught me anything, it's that a generation is however long you need it to be to make your pet theories work.

I think we're at the last generation. It's so easy to blame everything on melenials that we don't need any new generations. We've reached generational perfection.

Well, this feels weird. I just bought Tropico 5 (my first time playing the series) yesterday morning, and now I find out Castro is dead?

I wouldn't be surprised if Castro wasn't actually dead but had severe Alzheimer's/Dementia and could no longer go out in public without pooping himself so they spirited him away to a nice cozy nursing facility sort of thing for the rest of his days.

but I actually sort of hope not because frankly that's a bad way to go out regardless of who you are.

From what I've seen so far, this is not an uncommon viewpoint. He's being lauded in many circles for standing up to American imperialism.

Fidel, that champion of social justice who sent gay men to labor camps.

I admire him for his fight against exploitation and for the rights of the worker, for prioritising healthcare and education, and for standing up to a Cold War America who straight up backed monsters like Pinochet as well as big corporate exploitation in the Banana Republics

I revile him for his homophobia and his record on human rights, and we shouldn't forget that socialism means freedom for men, women, LGBT people and so on.

Yeah, his resistance to US imperialism should not over shadow his negatives

Honestly I'm inclined to trust the reaction of people who actually lived under his rule over some op-ed, and the reaction seems to be nothing short of jubilant.

Castro was kind of benefiting from US hegemony for decades. The embargo allowed him to blame a ton of things that weren't the result of the embargo on America and also gave him cred with people like Hugo Chavez that he exploited.

It turns out being in power for decades doesn't result in a great person.

Pretty sure Tube said we were taking a break from political threads so if this strays off topic its going to get locked. I'll get it back on topic.

Wonderwall is good but Champagne Supernova is the superior song... Discuss.

I'm trying to think of what the best Oasis song is but all I keep remembering are Blur songs.

The correct answer to the great question of who was better, Blur or Oasis

Well it was nice of him when he started apologizing for that time he almost blew up earth.

Actually it is kind of interesting that the Cuban Missile Crisis is sort of a demarcating line in his life where he said to himself, "Huh, I advocated for destroying the Earth. Maybe something isn't quite right with me."

A magician gives you a ring that, when worn, will let you see the world as it truly is.
However, the ring will never leave your finger, and you will be unable to ever describe to another living person what you see.
