Well, holding the passing of time, and the consequences thereof, against this instance of measurement of time...

Seems like there's always a few big deaths right near the end of the year.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

    Godspeed, Astronaut Glenn.

Stan Lee is almost 94 and Patrick Stewart is 76.

I'll breathe a little easier on New Year's Day, thankyouverymuch.

If there's one thing 2016 has taught us it's that our beloved celebrities can go at any time.

Oh god, that's not helping, sorrrrrry

Mick Jagger just had another fucking kid.

    He's 73.

    His girlfriend is 29.

He might be sweating, but it's not because he's scared of death.

John Glenn spoke at my graduation. I liked his speech a lot, though I don't remember a ton of what he said.

I realize that is a terrible story, but it's my John Glenn story.

I can't wait for 2017, a miraculous year in which extremely old people and rock stars who partied like Caligula will live forever.

Stan Lee died 20 years ago and his perfectly preserved corpse has been animated by cosmic forces ever since. He can never truly die so long as he keeps filming movie cameos.

    Fun fact:

This parade through DC was actually paused for a few minutes so that John Glenn's mother could get out of her car and ask my grandfather if my aunt had been born yet (she had been a few weeks earlier).

kind of wish my family had talked about him more when he was alive =P
