While the debate over digital likeness rights rages on, I bet Stan Lee has a stipulation in his will that he be digitally inserted into all Marvel movies from here to perpetuity.

That would be one hell of a stipulation. Then again if anyone could pull it off it would probably be him.

and somehow it will still find a way to screw over jack kirby one last time

Singin' in the Rain is going to be on big screens next month, if you've got a Cinemark theater nearby. It's well worth checking out.

Like seriously folks. It's probably my favorite live-action musical.

    It's fucking fantastic.

I haven't seen Singin' in the Rain since I was maybe 7, beyond the Make em Laugh scene.
    I should remedy that.

One of my greatest heroes is pretty old by now and I stopped even daring to mention their name months ago, never mind making wry comments that I hope they can dodge death a little longer and I swear to fucking god the way this year is going I'll probably find out they've died just before the new year countdown ends.

How does the quote go? "My idols are dead and my enemies are in power."

    Yeah. That.

I use to be a Music Man...man, and while I will always love it and Guys and Dolls after finally seeing Singin' in the Rain a few years back, that musical just blows them both out of the water

Singing in the Rain is definitely one of the best musicals recorded on film if not the best. Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor both reported Gene Kelly as being a dick to them, but O'Connor also noted that the Make 'em Laugh and Moses Supposes scenes were act of incredible artistic generosity by Kelly, as they played largely to O'Connor's style of dancing and comedy. Either way, there's hardly a scene in the film that isn't great to watch.

Life never really stops giving things, though, even up until the end. We're going to lose people, yeah, but...you know, there's always something new that's great, coming around the corner.

I mean, there's also something new that's shit, too, but hey

Yes, Gene Kelly was a silly goose to Debbie and Donald behind the scenes.

But he also gave himself pneumonia perfecting the movie's signature dance scene for hours on end in freezing water that stank to high heaven because milk had been added to it to make it show up in technicolor, so on the plus side he was no less of a silly goose to himself.

New York (CNN) - Michu Meszaros, the actor who played "ALF" in the popular '80s sitcom, has died, according to longtime friend and manager Dennis Varga.

Yeah, he died back in June sometime I think? At the time I thought they meant Paul Frusco, the puppeteer who voiced him. It took me a while to realise they meant the guy inside the suit.

This is also the year Kenny Baker (R2D2) died :(

Yeah no, Michu passed June 13th

If that news is just coming up now someone's trying to cash in on celebrity death fads.

I grabbed one of my star wars books today to read. It's an old Republic novel. It made me think
This is a book that chronicles stories thousands of years before a new hope. Regardless of quality it is a fully realized almost living universe. One where generations have been chronicled. Millions of words written. Thousands of hours in games played through.
And it all came from one movie in the 70s, which essentially centered on the backs of three unknown actors. The big three as they were known on the board where I talked about the old EU.
I have spent hours and hours in Leias head and always had carrie in my mind in the stories and adventures that she went on. And she'll always be there.
    That is an amazing legacy.

Milk was not added, that's an urban legend. They made the rain show up via lighting techniques.

Yeah that one turned super fucking weird once I heard about the whole "why Lucas thought 19-yr old Carrie Fisher shouldn't wear bras around him" thing.
