Did peta add themselves to the growing list of people Clarkson has pissed off yet?

I think peta are angry enough at a world that doesn't understand why running an "animal rights" organisation that kills more animals than it saves is "ethical" that anything Clarkson says is like adding petrol to a fluorine fire. Technically you're making it worse but it's normally difficult to tell without specialised instrumentation.

India is apparently getting a 30 minute vegetarian friendly version of episode 4 since a car made of cow isn't going to go well with Hindus.

This week is good so far, Car Battleship looks like they had legitimate great fun.

So far things have been going pretty well. I'd say that there's some touch and go with figuring out the new format, and there's bound to be less than stellar results every now and then, but for the first season of a new show (even with old hosts), it's been going pretty damn well so far.

It was a good episode, lovely Morocco scenes (the GoPros in the cars were shoddy quality though), and a good conversation street. Battleship was a nice idea but the problem with occasional scripted stuff lies right here, in that it felt like they might have known where some were just to drag it out

I wonder if James is in a midlife crisis now, actually wanting a kit car.

If they cut down on the scripted bits the show would be nearly perfect. Just give them stuff to do and enough time to do them so that things just naturally happen. If that means you lose an episode or two of content so be it.

The concept of something requiring assembly gives James the fizz, as they say, so ofcourse he loves kit cars.

    Definitely.

That said, I think that was the strongest episode so far. Really had a feel of the old TG magic for a lot of it.

I could've perhaps done without the, er, immobile versions of the counterweights, but what'cha gonna do.

To be fair, most mechanically/technically minded people can really go in the "zone" when they get to assemble something. It's very zen.

The weigh bridge scene had me and my family in tears. Car Battleship was also fun but was kinda obvious that it was scripted and drug on maybe 2-3 minutes too long.

I just finished the environmental cars episode and I thought it was great. Yes it's scripted, they all are; that's not where the humor lies. It's in the bits between like James' car collapsing constantly. You knew it would happen but it's still funny.

I didn't get the soldiering episode at all. However, Hammond's face when he pulls out his knife on the plane's wing is something dreams are made of.

Part 1 of the New Africa special was the best episode yet, very little scripted stuff (fish stuff prolly), lovely camerawork, and some real sense of "oh shit" moments, to the point where they make up for being bleeped out in the old shoe with this episode alone, though it seems with Amazon you can say shit but not fuck

Good thing Part 2 showed up today.

I've been running a bit behind, and only caught the episode from Finland tonight.

At least Kimi Raikkonen met a fitting end.

Enjoyed the Mustang vs Focus RS, the Christmas grotto segment, and especially May's GT40 bit. He presented that like one of his solo shows and it was all the better for it. (That footage of the huge crash in 1955 always turns my stomach but it is a part of Le Mans history that should never be forgotten.) Top notch.

Not so impressed with Hammond's ice cream "joke". C'mon, guys, you're better than that.

Looking forward to the special now.

I saw a post or something about this and it seriously has me considering whether I want to watch the show at all. That and some of Clarkson's other comments in the first few episodes (and the meat car).

That said, the special will likely draw me back in.

    Oh man, this is precious:
    http://newsthump.com/2016/12/27/being-in-love-with-jeremy-clarkson-much-gayer-than-eating-ice-cream-richard-hammond-told/
Mr Hammond’s wife, meanwhile, confirmed that he has always refused to eat ice cream.

“He’s certainly not keen on licking anything, I can tell you that,” she said.

“Whenever I suggest having any kind of frozen dessert he just squeals and hides behind Jeremy’s leg.

“He once nearly ate a Vienetta thinking it was a slice of cake, but immediately spat it out and locked himself in the garage for a week.”

Hammond's car was too good, barely any footage of him as they drove because he wasn't constantly breaking down or in pain.

That was great. The ending was a bit abrupt, and I second the point about the lack of Hammond on board, but otherwise, that was a proper special; when it (GT or TG) becomes a travel show is when it's at its best.

I caught the last two-thirds or so of a rerun of the Patagonia special today.

Youtube just recommended me this wonderful snippet of Clarkson on Old Top Gear. Like, 1996 vintage. When the man had hair.
