    oh SHIT this adventure zone
griffin in the ad: the only advertising we use for this show is the greatest form of advertising, which is of course word of mouth!

the liches in the second half: advertising is essential for Wonderland to work, and do you know what the greatest form of advertising is?

tres horny boys: ...word of mouth

Yeah that was a real nice touch.

    oh wait dang
the challenge rooms in wonderland are based on mcelroy shows

the monster factory is self explanatory, heart attack is rose buddies, boss rush is the adventure zone

the board game they skipped was probably my brother, my brother and me

there were probably also rooms for sawbones, bunker buddies, etc

the litches are justin and travis, who lost their baby brother

i'm not done with the episode yet so i hope this is actually an interesting thing to point out and not something they make obvious

So we know how the McElroy podcasting empire will end, then.

I'm with you right up until the end
Three siblings and the shows all make sense, but I don't think you can draw a direct analogue to the brothers themselves

What I did appreciate, though, and what Griffin could not possibly have foreseen, is that the elves go on this long spiel about how they cared about their lost brother so much they became liches, bent the laws of nature and reality in an attempt to bring him back, and failed

And then the moment Magnus literally dies, the boys bend all the laws of nature and reality to bring him back, and succeed

    It's perfect

    i'm guessing
the climax was gonna take place in the ethereal plane, with taako and merle fighting hollow magnus while magnus fought his way back to the material world and helped kravitz with whatever is goin' on over there

I have to imagine he didn't expect Magnus to get pulled into a marionette body, at least not that quickly. I expected Kravitz would figure in to getting him back into a body and he'd spend a bit on the astral plane before coming back, if he came back at all. Maybe they were all supposed to die and go to the astral plane?? Who knows!! I cannot WAIT for the next The The Adventure Zone Zone after the campaign is over, it's gonna be some fascinating shit from Griffin

Potentially he also had more boss rush stuff to fuck around with, but when Taako turned into a goddamn t-rex, he skipped ahead to the purple worm because what the fuck, right?

speculation on how taz is gonna end
none of the artifacts were actually destroyed, not because the bureau is evil but becasue they're indestructible, so they've just been sealing them away

once assembled, the artifacts become the god whose powers they're fragments of and the world starts to collapse (the collapse has already started, which is why the astral plane is so fucked up right now)

the schism between the bureau and the red robes is healed after some erased memories get restored

at some point the boys fight their way into a confrontation with the god and ultimately the end of the world is unstoppable, but that's not such a bad thing because it allows for a new world to be born in its place, and that's how the second adventure kicks off

maybe they win some fight that lets this universe continue on in some form, or preserves the souls of the people in it so that they'll be reborn or summat

The problem with this is it wrecks the theory that the Hogsbottom Three accidentally and unknowingly destroyed one of the relics and I don't want to give that one up.

maybe they win some fight that lets this universe continue on in some form, or preserves the souls of the people in it so that they'll be reborn or summat

    My speculation
None of the artifacts have been destroyed because Lucretia has an ulterior motive (probably altruistic if misguided) to reassemble the artifacts into the god-being they once were in order to fight the encroaching Hunger, which has chased the red robes from universe to universe, consuming countless planes of existence

The red robes have their own plan involving the god-being, because Lucretia doesn't know exactly what she's dealing with (probably because of erased memories because the red robes are really bad about keeping secrets when they shouldn't) and they storm the Bureau of Balance after the conclusion of the Wonderland arc. This is also when we learn the actual history of the characters, because they've all got so much static in their heads and shit, and also they're the only versions of them in the multiverse for some reason

The final confrontation is the boys finding a third option that isn't "exterminate the Hunger at the cost of all life" or "fail and allow the Hunger to consume everything" and that ends up being a climactic triumph and everyone lives happily ever after because after all this shit I refuse to believe Griffin would throw that dark at the end

Six months ago I decided to listen to every single episode of Let's Place. And now, tonight, I am all caught up.

I am sure, at the beginning, I had a reason why I was doing this but I honestly don't remember now. But hey, it's a good podcast and it's made me laugh through these trying times.

I'm...three episodes deep on Morph Club and I've largely had it on as background noise (not because it's bad, but because I have the attention span of a toddler), and it's very nice to hear people talk about these books that don't have like...probably an unhealthy amount of knowledge about them. And it's also fun to hear them ask questions like "are they vegetarians because of morphing" when I know that like...they go into a slaughterhouse as cows and then at the end of the book they all get burgers

That's really interesting because I kinda had the opposite reaction. I first heard of the show when they were maybe four episodes in and I think I kind of put it off because for some reason I assumed the tone would be "hey, you know those dumb books we read as kids and barely remember?," but I actually find them to be pretty knowledgeable and more importantly, passionate about the books.

It's really nice and funny and I appreciate their perspective.

Granted, I'm only one episode in, so maybe that's why we had such different impressions of them. I have too many podcasts and other stuff.

no, I mean, like...yeah, they absolutely know what they're talking about, but it's also pretty clear that they thought about other things in decade-plus since those books were coming out so, you know
