And also, is there anyway to know the tournament format this year? I'm only asking because I wasn't very fond of how it was setup last year and would like to have it setup similarly to how major Smash tournaments are.

In general PAX tournaments are deliberately different from any established major rule set\format. We do this for a couple reasons, but mainly we want to encourage more casual players to try out and be able to do well. If we did the same format as established major events, "pros" would come in and clean house. This is the same reason we dont offer huge valuable prizes or the PAX tournamnets, that would also encourage "pro" players to compete. PAX Arena's is where we host that kind of superb pro level play.

How do autographs work? Is it just get in line with a line cap? How long do the sessions last? How early before the actual session do people start lining up? I'm trying to get a Markiplier and Lordminion777 autograph for my son.

  • whypick1whypick1 PAX [E] Info Booth Manager ~2' from an LCDRegistered User regular
    Yes.
However long they're listed on the schedule.
Depends on the people. For Markiplier, I'd imagine people would be lining up outside in the morning to line up inside for show open to line up for him.

Is it PAX <insert nearest future PAX here> yet?

Thanks for the replies btw, one more question. On the Street Fighter V console tourney is it going to be limited to any one particular console? I have a Fight Stick specifically for PS4 and would love to use it.

I intend to explore Boston before and after the convention hall opens/closes and I don't want to have to run back to the hotel to get my drone. If I wear my backpack with the drone in it, will I be stopped by security for it? I couldn't find anything from the site or conventional hall that says one way or another. (Obviously it cant be flown indoors)

Beware with drones in Boston. I have flown a few around as I live in the area, but take special care. Most of the area in the city is Class B airspace because of Logan. I wouldn't go much higher than buildings at any point.

I wouldn't even go that high. Hell, I don't feel comfortable flying my drone with people around. Everyone is so paranoid of what they are doing, what they are looking at, who's controlling it, etc. Doing it in Boston Proper just seems like you're asking for trouble. I could be wrong.

While I agree that being insensitive is an issue, so is being oversensitive.

Bring some cash too. One year they had a bunch of Mass Effect voice actors giving autographs, and said it was free... Until you got to the front of the line, at which point you were met with the fact that it was going to cost money per autograph. It all went to charity, but still stung a bit to wait in line expecting free autographs and not be able to get signatures because you only have a card.

i know the guidebook is out and it has an exhibitor list, but there are at least 3 companies I know are attending that have no listing in the guide. With 2 of them it's likely because they're in the Tabletop section (that was the case last year when I went looking for one of them) but the other is video games so I'm not sure why they aren't listed.

With all of them I've just been asking the people directly which booth they are at but is there another location for the exhibitor list? Perhaps a more complete one? Or is it just based on some other detail I'm not aware of (such as sharing booth space or something?)

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

My husband is hoping to bring his Warmachine/Hordes army and get a few games in this PAX. Is this a thing? If so, where should he go?

    I didn't see anything in the schedule/website/FAQ/forums.

    Thanks!

Based on what I read up on drones are legal in and around Boston as long as they are not within 25 feet of people or a moving vehicle. I mainly wanted to use it for some shots of Fort Independence and I've booked the Constitution Inn for the last 5 years and have seen a lot of cool things over in that area.

Technically, you need to get permission from the LOGAN tower to fly in the area (within 5 miles of the airport tower). I never have, but if you happen to fly near a plane for instance you may be in huge trouble. I've stayed away from trying to get Fort Independence on my videos specifically because of that. That area is actually DIRECTLY on an approach path for one of the main runways, so large jets are actually quite low (I would say probably ~100ft or so). For instance, this picture was taken from a plane on approach: http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/5165089.jpg

    Just be careful.

Hmm. Usually there are a few wargame tables set up - some of the tabletop or board game companies have brought terrain with them. Some people brought it with them as well. That said, I didn't see anything explicit called out for it, so your mileage may vary.

If it's happening, it'll be in the Tabletop area.

For some reason my passes were not delivered to my apartment and returned to sender. Who should I contact to get them sent out again?

Sorry if this is not the right forum for this question, I'm new to this.

I didn’t receive my PAX Badges in the Mail!! What do I do?
If you live outside of the US, or you purchased your pass after the cut off date for badges to be mailed, you will need to pick up your badge at Will Call using your confirmation number AND a valid piece of photo ID. If your badge really is lost in the mail, email pax_questions@paxsite.com and they will take care of you. Generally they will tell you to keep waiting unless it's within a week prior to the actual PAX dates.

I'm pretty sure you will not be able to choose your console. You may be able to choose your controller depending on the tourney.

TableTop booths are often not in the expo hall list as thats just the people in the main hall. There is often a list of Table Top people in the printed program. If the other company has a booth in the hall they should be on the list, but mistakes do happen.

*edit* found some TableTop info in a separate post

Hey there! This is my first year at PAX and I had a question regarding the Pokemon Sun and Moon Tournament on Saturday. I couldn't find any information on this in the forums here, on the pax official site schedule, and as far as I can see the Pax Pokemon League is not associated with the tournament at all. I wasn't sure where to post this question so I hope here is fine. :)

My question is where and when rules are posted regarding the pokemon tournament if at all? I assume there is some ruleset loosely based on Smogon or VGC standards but it would be nice to know what those rules are prior to the day of the tournament so I could prepare an appropriate team. If they're not released until then, does anyone know what rulesets they've used in the past/are likely to use assuming there have been pokemon tournaments at pax before?

    Thanks!

I am not sure I have seen rules posted for a pokemon tournament prior to the show itself before (other than the pokemon league, which as you said is unaffiliated). I can see if I can poke some of the pax tournament leads to post things but no guarantees. I do think *some* of this is because PAX tournaments that are not part of PAX Arena are intended to be casual-friendly, and too much posting details ahead of time can lead towards more dedicated players preparing something that will whoop the competition (this is just my general sense, not a rule).

Hi , I have some questions about the Table Top Tournaments. Will the full tournament rules and structure be available for the event? for example, what expansion, how my people to one copy of a game, special rules, etc.

Well that's a bit disappointing. Even just knowing if it's doubles or singles would be helpful. But thanks Zerzhul! Hoping you find something!

Anybody know where/if I can get a map for the shuttles? Trying to find out if I need to make other plans than using the shuttles.

Or, if there's someone more familiar with it, I'm staying at the Found Boston Common. Searching has come up empty for me. Thanks!

I don't recall that info being available in the past, but it's usually safe to assume games will have the max number of players the game accommodates. At least that has been my experience with dominion and carcassone and ticket to ride and power grid

No map but http://east.paxsite.com/hotels-and-travel (bottom). Looks like Route 3 is the one you want to be on. DoubleTree Downtown, Revere Hotel (looks like the closest), and W Boston are near your hotel.

Hi , I have some questions about the Table Top Tournaments. Will the full tournament rules and structure be available for the event? for example, what expansion, how my people to one copy of a game, special rules, etc.

You won't be able to find a written explanation of the rules and structure for a tournament, but you're free to ask the tabletop enforcers any of those questions, and they should have answers for you. However, I can answer most of those questions from experience.

Regarding expansions, almost all tournaments use the base game and no expansions, unless otherwise noted in the title (e.g. Ticket to Ride: Europe). Also, there are a couple of games for which a ton of expansions exist, like Munchkin and Dominion. Those tournaments do use expansions, but there's no way to know ahead of time which one(s) you will be playing.

The number of people per game is entirely dependent on the turnout for the tournament. If the tournament fills up, which is usually what happens, it will almost always be the max number of players that the game can hold. For tournaments that don't fill up, they usually try to divide people such that there is an equal number of people in each game.

Special rules are almost never used, in my experience, but the organizers are open to them. If someone suggests a special rule, and all other players agree to it, then the organizer should be fine with that (which I have seen happen a few times).

I don't know if you guys have info about this, since it's not being run directly by PAX, but is the Twitch Prime Lounge/Coat Check only open to Prime subscribers, or to everyone?

Twitch has done a twitch partner lounge before that was closed off to general attendees, and was for some set of twitch streamers.

I think the prime lounge will probably be open to general attendees, with them continuing to have their partner lounge in the expo hall.

It looks to be for twitch prime members only. If you have amazon prime you can link your account for a free membership. It is also included with Amazon Prime free trials. I just went ahead and made and account (since I'm linked to my bf's Prime household) and will cancel at the end of the month so I don't get charged.

Shouldn't matter either way. Pickup though will probably be easier at the lawn as it will be less crowded. The area in front of the center is all taxi stands, so they can't wait for you there (if you are waiting there when they show up it is probably OK)
