(Everything should be set up properly - if you see something in error, please let me know & I will correct as soon as I can. In the meantime, let's get this game on!)
Admiral, but a mere officer when the 12 Colonies fell, you command now the last of humanity's defenses. Ejected from Kobol, driven from a brief respite on New Caprica, tested in the depths of the Ionian Nebulae, responsibilities weigh heavy on your weary shoulders. The fleet awaits your orders, they expecting eyes on you to lead them to the nigh mythical 13th Tribe and their home...Earth.
Galactica: No damage, no boarding parties. Pegasus: No damage.
Nuke Tokens: 2 remain. Quorum Cards: 1 in hand.
Ship Reserves: 4 Viper Mk II, 4 Raptors, 1 Assault Raptor available. 4 Viper Mk VIIs damaged.
Characters: Admiral Felix Gaeta (MrBody) in FTL Control President Lee Adama (Doctorstrongbad) in Admiral's Quarters
Gaius Balta (Daemonis) in Admiral's Quarters
Louanna “Kat” Katraine (Preda) in Hangar Deck
Louis Hoshi (Hedgethorn) in Communications CAG Kara “Starbuck” Thrace (Phyphor) in Hangar Deck
1. Does the Demetrius start the game able to use? I'm not sure what the "inactive" thing means next to its name. Reading the rule book I can't find any mention of it not starting off limits.
2. I take it Felix's FTL ability is restricted to when he uses it and no one else?
3. Spamming the Pegasus engine room was a good strategy before. Here it looks like Demetrius locations are the best. Do we want to draw a mission right away? Use the Tactical space to make sure we have a good mission on top first? Besides missions, the captain's cabin looks hugely useful: +6 skill cards total? Sounds like it's best to use that early on when no cylons are revealed and it's more likely we only have 1 cylon loyalty player.
4. Do we have a mutineer? My understanding is they have to reveal immediately, and if we don't have one someone gets an extra loyalty card?
Thoughts? I was thinking about going to the Demetrius and using those sweet locations, but Felix's ability seems like I might be better staying on Galactica? (even then, I might use Captain's Cabin and just discard if I have to move back to Galactica because holy crap +6 cards for the group!)
Or do we want to nuke the basetar+raiders right away to keep them from building up on the cylon fleet board?
1 Demetrius is available from the start. The inactive is for the non-earth destination with daybreak rules.
2 Every time, no matter who use it.
3 Spamming pegasus engine was good for the end game where cylons were out of options and losing 3/4 of crisis was ok, normally would be really risky...
Demetrius is really sweet, but mission are more or less a must, since we have to go 10 distance, and without the 2 distance reducing missions we will probably be out of fuel first...
I suggest you go to captain cabin, so Lee could XO you and use presidential office too, maximising our resources. Than we go for missions.
No mutineer yet, since if you draw mutineer you have to reveal and draw another.
I generally prefear to not nuke the starting cylon formation, exactly because it will be probably activated and no new cylon will appear on the cylon board.
Tactical plot is action draining, but missions are hard. And failing them has generally ugly consequences (remembering also that you do a mission instead of a crisis, and missions don't have jump advance). Plotting + drawing right cards in captain quarters is the recipe to success.
Last but not least, treachery cards from daybreak are VICIOUS! All have effect when put in a skill check, and half of them can't be discarded (discarding them is worse than playing them) and must be played in the checks suffering the consequences, the other half are so bad in a check that humans have to find a way to discard them or suffer a lot...
So please @MrBody don't be a cylon and have everyone draw 2 with that xo next turn...
Move to Demetrius captain's cabin, discarding Politics 1 - Consolidate Power
Activate Captain's Cabin, give everyone engineering card
I was tempted to give everyone a piloting since we seem lowest on that, but then I thought that would give Cylons an opportunity to sabotage a check without being able to narrow down the suspect in an otherwise narrow skillset. Sound or no?
I'm always torn between giving out colors we have the least of, and intentionally keeping those cards limited because it super narrows down the list of cylon suspects if they come up in a sabotage.

These tensions are some of why I love this game. It's also interesting to see how the different characters fare here. The big military leaders just draw lea/tac, others draw 4 (or OG Baltar 5) kinda of cards
edit: and yes Eng is correct. Pil is largely useless to non-pilots and appears very infrequently in checks

The Admiral recalls the Viper patrols, spending significant time & resources on redoing the patrols and fleet security. A Cylon insurgent plan to damage the battlestar is thwarted, but at the same time the lack of fighter cover gives the Cylon basestar operating in the sector time to ready additional Raiders for future action.
From mere viper pilot on an aging, to be decommissioned battlestar to President of the survivors of the Twelve Colonies, the battlefield remains the same. But now instead of protecting the lives of humanity on the frontlines, he protects their memories of home, life as it used to be...and their hopes, their dreams, their freedoms.

&, as you are the starting player, I will need your flex draw - you have 2 Leadership/Politics, so any combination (2 Leadership, 2 Politics, or 1 Leadership & 1 Politics).
@Hedgethorn
End game will be Earth.
I assume no cards have actually gone out (though technically loyalty distribution happens before any card choices here)
I'll take 1 Lea, 1 Pol in the mean time
Pol/Lea my turn pick
This is true - was trying to be efficient and email people their starting cards all in one go.
Will send out hands and get Turn 1 board up soon.
