This show is so bad that it made me understand why people livetweet. Every five minutes something happens and I just want to scream "is anyone else seeing this shit?!"
This is probably the first one of these I don't get through, unless it gets much, much better or much funnier in how bad it is. My score so far for MCU shows on Netflix:
Daredevil: Season 1 great just for the Kingpin, Season 2 largely awful. Season 3 I probably won't watch.
Jessica Jones: Some super adequate television anchored on a weak central performance
Luke Cage: Two thirds fantastic with a weak finish. Still must-see viewing
Oofa doofa, I think most people know I was sad about the casting but I am really surprised by all the other issues
I kinda want to just watch the scenes with Colleen?
She's not bad, but she's not the kind of revelatory presence that it's worth watching a bad show for. She's not the Kingpin. Also Danny is such a massive piece of shit in the one scene they've had together so far that it's a net drag on the show.

I realize most of my rankings are carried by a single performance.
Maherashala Ali in the first half of Luke Cage
David Tennant in Jessica Jones
Jon Bernthal in the first half Of Daredevil 2
This plane crash flashback looks like it was shot for seven fucking dollars. Like there are papers rustling on the floor that are clearly being blown by a fan, and a character gets hit in the face by an object that has obviously been thrown at them from off camera.
Episode 8 was the first one I thought was truly, truly terrible
and it might actually be the worst single episode of any of these shows
It has EVERYTHING that is an occasional, resurfacing problem in the show back, to back, to back, to back, to back.
Predictable life lesson arc for danny, colleen worshipping this cracker, CLAIRE GOES TO CHINA TO FIGHT THE FUCKIN NINJAS, bad lines, bad line reads, and dear fucking god Ward advance your plotline
also, you know what? the vast majority of these Hand soldiers haven't even been ninjas! what the fuck!
I'm of the mind that an asian-american Danny Rand is the obviously cooler and more deft way to do this story, but I don't know if Finn Jones is actually a shitty Danny Rand yet, because I've yet to see him with a good script to read!

re: Maherashala Ali
i was super bummed when he was killed off for the "real" big bad of the show. Mahershala seemed more like a real living, complex antagonist that was a product of the racism and economic injustice of Harlem. the first half of Luke Cage was so much more interesting in no small part because of him.
the only reason i can think of for Marvel completely futzing the last half of most of the series was because they wanted to set things up neatly for the Defenders, but the results have been crappy so far.

So I got to the Colleen Wing fight in Episode 4 that was released in a preview clip and looked super rough
In the show itself the horrible generic techno rock soundtrack is replaced by Blockbuster Part One by RtJ and the ADR on the punches and whatnot were way less goofy
I wonder how recently they were editing this shit before release
Further Coleen questions:
Does she know that carrying a wooden sword around on your back is the fucking goofiest thing imaginable?
She says that her impromptu "attack me" sessions are to prepare her students for real life situations. Like attacking a random lady who's carrying a wooden sword?
Does she know that kata are fucking stupid? She expects her students to practice them for an hour a day? She doesn't seem like a very good teacher

Danny mansplaining martial arts to Colleen is fucking painful to watch.
And these fight scenes are edited horribly. Some of this stuff is "30 cuts to jump a fence" bad, like Taken 3.
Literally every other Marvel Netflix show has extremely legible action and fight scenes. Was the actor playing Danny that bad at martial arts and stunts that they had to garble everything?
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Why did Danny have straight brown hair as a child and curly blonde hair as an adult? He doesn't dye and perm it, he's a fucking transient. Has anyone's straight hair ever gotten curly during adulthood? And lighter? Ever?

I will say, this has some amazing dick rich assholes I want to see get punched in the face real hard.

My hair didn't get lighter but I had straightish hair as a kid and my hair is curly as fuck now

Alright I'm giving you all my Iron Fist nitpicks from now on
I really wish they went with the costume for this so I wouldn't be forced to look at Finn Jones stupid fucking face.

It is a thing for straight hair to become curly, though as far as I am aware there isn't a universal explanation for why it happens.

and Chef's Table isn't an MCU show or even a fictional series, but it's like eating delicious food through the TV.
edit: and there's this show called "Stranger Things" which is kinda alright :P

It felt like one of those scenes where the writers knew but couldn't gainsay a producer or something about it so they snuck in that goon line

Get Netflix for Terrace House!
Get it for Luke Cage, DD Season 1, and Jessica Jones if you are looking for Marvel TV.
Stranger Things is alright. I think The Santa Clarita Diet is of a higher quality.
Is not an investment to watch, the pace is blistering and is entertaining as hell.
