I liked highschool, but with the advent of facebook I already keep in touch with most people I want to. AND the ones who don't use FB and I would want to see, are also the least likely to show up to any reunion.
So even if I happened to be in my home town, I probably wouldn't go - I'm certainly not going to travel for it.

I'd argue that the only worthwhile thing I've done with my life is have kids, because they're pretty good kids

Raising good kids is a worthy thing to do with your life. It's not, as some people would have you believe, the only worthy thing to do with your life, nor does it have to be the only worthy thing you do with your life, but it can be.

Me too. I basically removed my toxic family completely from my life and will die alone but dammit that was an accomplishment. I have a job, I'm not a drunk and I have my own place to live. My keetooms are the best. I win.

  • MorivethMoriveth BREAKDOWN BREAKDOWN BREAKDOWN BREAKDOWNRegistered User regular
My metrics for 'accomplishment' are likely pretty skewed, yeah. I mean, I'm certainly not unhappy right now, but I guess I wouldn't consider myself a success, whatever that actually means.

  • GustavGustav Friend of Goats Somewhere in the OzarksRegistered User regular
I'm not too worried about the accomplishment angle. I mean I'll be the only one there without a budding family or own a house, but I pretty much draw for a living. So I'm going to be taken literally as seriously as I normally am, which is not at all. The conversation would go exactly as such.

    "Hey Gus. Still drawing?"

    "Yup."

"Whelp good, now we just need to find a bigger locker"

    Success is relative

Yeah sure from the perspective of got a regular job, bought my little flat etc, not that much of a big deal

From the perspective of how I am socially, both in terms of my feelings and dealing with social situations, and in terms of self-esteem, respect for others, being able to articulate myself? I've come on massively from when I was younger. Leaps and bounds. And I might just be where most people are, probably, but given where I started, that doesn't mean I can't be proud of making a concerted effort to change certain things about myself and managing to do it. I mean I have a long way to do and I've still got plenty of stuff to sort out, but yeah I say forget what society says is successful. Do what makes you feel successful. And that doesn't mean don't do things that society views as successful, if that's what you want to do! But there are varying forms of riches, is all I am saying.

My lawn is about 18 inches on one side by about 24 inches on the other. If you mow it, you are catastrophically over doing it. I suggest you get out of that nice man's yard before he calls the police.

    Now then, where's my oatmeal?

I was always the fat kid in school so if I ever had a reunion I'd only show up to, like bench press and teacher, flip everybody off, and then leave.

In the sense that if are Tove Lo then you can definitely get away with looking like you just spend the last 48 hours getting high, drunk, having lots of sex and staring into the middle distance while smoking a post-coital fag at 6am, and then not showering because fuck that, yeah

But there is a school of thought that says if you are Tove Lo or somesuch then you get access to a lot of aesthetics that us mere mortals sort of shouldn't really try

    anyway

    Hmm

    Yeah

    I'm not Tove Lo

And I are too much dinner to drink enough cheap swill beer to get proper buzzed

My crush is just a human, she's not actually a beautiful ghost dream woman

    I can do this

Maybe you should be Tove Lo

Maybe we should all become very attractive depressed Swedish 20-somethings having lots of sex

    I could live with that

    Ok question

    Who is Tove Lo?

  • SolarSolar Registered User regular
She's a Swedish synthpop singer whose lyrics make it quite clear that she is a depressed 20-something having lots of sex

She's also very pretty, and totally my type, so I'd really like to take her on a date if that's cool

Tove Lo sounds like a Star Wars character.

Well the depressed 20-something part does but "having lots of sex" doesn't really track.
