I think even as kids we all knew Billy was getting a raw deal towards the end. The character was literally put on house arrest in zeo making him a ranger again was the least they could do

I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

I remember being disappointed that Billy not only wasn't revealed to be the Gold Ranger, but that the random nobody under the mask can't even pass the powers on to Billy either. After the thing with Old Man Billy, I stopped watching the show almost entirely until In Space (I didn't see the rest of Zeo, and only maybe saw like two random episodes of Turbo back when they were airing).

During this rewatch though, I didn't realize how long Billy actually is in Zeo. Out of the 50 episodes, David Yost is still there until episode 43, and the character isn't written out until episode 48.

So despite treating him very poorly, it doesn't seem like they had any intention on writing him out yet which just leads me to another question: what the hell would they have done with Turbo? The higher-ups didn't want him to be a Ranger again, but you're going to have to jump through some complicated hoops to explain why some new powers (that he himself likely developed) can't be used by him and they have to call in a child instead.

In fact, the Turbo movie was in theaters like 4 months or so after his last episode, so theoretically there should be at least a script out there that includes him in it in some capacity.

ernie was a doofus but he seemed above a lot of the dumb shit that went on

very relaxed about every disaster that happened within 500 yards of his place, probably because he knew the power rangers were basically on retainer

Ernie was probably leading a Power Rangers fan club. Dude loved those guys.

I think he actually was in one of the comics.

For those unaware or have forgotten, the MMPR comic-book series from BOOM comics is currently in the middle of a 'bad alternate future' story involving Tommy and Billy. Part of said bad future involves the pair encountering this guy...

...a grunt called a Mastodon Sentry. He's part of a group of soldiers that managed to receive the powers of the Mastodon Power Coin if at a reduced level due to it being split among multiple people. Now it looks like the 13th issue of the series will introduce more groups of Sentries into the story. To take a peek at the concept art, check the box below.

Until tonight I had no idea that the actress that played Laverne in Scrubs had a recurring role in Power Rangers.

    In Space Finale Spoilers!
She even claims to be the Pink Ranger during Bulk & Skull's big Spartacus moment.

Early reviews are out, and it seems the movie is a competent execution with a good core cast. If you were expecting something other than an updated post Marvel movie Power Rangers, well, you're not going to get it.

It's sitting at 42 on rt right now which isn't TERRIBLE

The best part is that almost all the reviews praise the cast as being easily the best part of the movie

Let's be honest here, this movie was never going to be a big hit with the critics.
And that's okay. Because it's not for them.

Any indications so far on how kid-friendly the movie is? I'm thinking of taking my 6 year old nephew to this.

Being Power Rangers, I'd assume the answer would be "quite", but I guess I've been wrong with this sort of thing before.

The Indiewire review seems worth reading, as it seems like the critic has some grounding in the franchise

Also @Veldrin the answer appears to be "not especially at all"

"Its not for them" is a pretty meaningless phrase and I've rarely found that fan are LESS critical of a franchise.

Yeah movie critics are typically "people who like movies". If you make a movie that's not for people who like movies, what are you doing?

In fairness I saw at least two negative reviews that basically boiled down to "Rita repulse is a stupid name"

It's a premise that's going to turn some people off immediately

I've been catching a little of each season.

It's been interesting to see, for example, the production value jump up after MMPR3 and especially with In Space. I've also discovered I don't really like the costumes for Gingaman (Charlie Brown), Timeranger, and Gaoranger.

I'm really hoping that's misinformation, and it sounds just outrageous enough to be false, but if it's not...

(And that's not getting into the stuff Michael Bay has gotten away with in movies based on toys...)

Edit: Oh, I see that the IndieWire review confirms my second spoiler tag. So I guess it depends on how tastefully and kid-friendly you think they can make that. Makes Spoiler Tag #3 suddenly seem a lot more plausible, too.

What I've read is that the first two thirds are a bit of a slog trying too hard to be serious, but the last half hour is 'Power Rangers with an actual budget', and seems to be pretty good.
Assuming they're planning more (and when aren't they planning a franchise of 2-19 movies with this sort of thing?), maybe the opening slog is out of the way now, and follow-up movies will embrace the fun bit more?

Nobody remembers the singer. The song remains.

    First spoiler
Jason got done in for taking a bull into the school locker room as a prank and then crashing his car while running from the cops afterwards. While they're walking the bull in, another dude with him mentions how he milked the cow and we get a shot of Jason looking at the bull's nutsack to confirm that the other dude jerked off a bull. It's uh, a little weird.
