Transfering SMS, Memo's to new phone (Android)

Is there a way to transfer text messages and memo's from the basic text messaging and memo apps on a Samsung Galaxy S5 to S7 without using a 3ed party app?

Android 6.0 and higher in use.

If a 3ed party app has to be used, anyone know of any good (safe) ones to use?

    Check your S7 phone for Smart Switch in Settings -> Backup & Reset.
    You'll need to download the app onto your S5, but then it can transfer all your things via bluetooth/usb to the S7.
    I tried via the USB cable and adapter that came with my S7 Edge, but that didn't work for me, so I had to use bluetooth, which worked great.
