Hey, remember this?

1385313948000-MYSTERY-SCIENCE-THEATERG1206.jpg

Well over a year ago they did this:

8bb57ca4e3bebc454d8daf310ed196a7_original.jpg?w=700&fit=max&v=1450146483&auto=format&q=92&s=92557e3ff738e82cd23388a2ab4067a3

After it was all said and done, they did stuff for a while and then about half a year ago, they told us this:

c7d14745c8ce7dbe7bfa3769a50f39b7_original.jpg?w=639&fit=max&v=1470064745&auto=format&q=92&s=7a49567b2b7ce513ba546b7ba61df868

And yesterday they announced the official return date is April 14. So just under two months before we get this:

16835935_10154362307788870_8019810577681420448_o.jpg?oh=54859e0e43f502ee052adecc59a802ae&oe=59355C31

I still wish they did new, modern low-budget 'bots for this instead of using the old ones, because my very soul rebels at a Servo not voiced by Kevin Murphy.

But more MST3K can only be a good thing!

So... you hate Tom Servo's new voice?

I too am adamant about Kevin Murphy

But I'm also the guy who prefers Bill over Trace, and Mike over Joel

Basically Scifi-era MST is my golden age

I will be happy to check out this new version but I need to be convinced

All eras of MST have their strengths and weaknesses. I love the feel of the Joel era but the riffing was at its best in the Mike era. Trace is my preferred Crow (and Mad) though, so the strongest for me, wholistically is probably seasons 5 and 6.

That said my favorite episodes are from all over the place so quality can be found everywhere.

So Crow and Servo got off the SOL and lived with Mike, and I guess they get kidnapped and shot up into space again?

Yeah they'd BETTER explain how this ties in with them going over to Joel's house for Thanksgiving every year.

    (Not really)

Luckily this is already addressed in the lyrics of the theme song.

y'all should head over to Wikipedia and read the section on this revival

the list of people involved is basically a list of nerds' favorite people

i.e. adam savage is doing special effects, Rebecca Sugar is doing set and prop design

  • Options

Savage and Sugar sounds like a dirty hipster cafe that only sells cupcakes and bacon

    ....

    actually, I'm ok with that

I never realized that Gypsy was supposed to kind of snake through different openings. She's coming down from the ceiling in that picture. The wonders of a moderate budget.

But the biggest question that I need answered:
How does he eat and breathe? That station looks far too small to support human life for any extended period of time.
And what of all of the other science facts that just don't add up...

My brother and his girlfriend have been watching episodes lately, which is awesome for a number of reasons. 1) I get to recommend episodes that I love, 2) I end up rewatching a ton myself, and 3) I get texts like these:
    Bro: Sandra
    Me: Yes
Bro: I don't understand how Jack Frost had anything to do with Jack Frost
Like...he showed up at one point. And basically killed who we think was the heroine?
We thought mushroom man was Russian Jack Frost
But no, actually the whole bear face part was irrelevant

Man, I know how the hosts feel now. Got the e-mail saying that 1101 is up for advance viewing for KS backers, but I have to leave for work in a half-hour.

I wish I had been able to back at more than 10 bucks. I'd love to see the advanced viewing thing.

Oh well at least it is only a few more days.

So, thoughts on the first episode: the pacing and energy of the host segments is weird, but the riffs have that same ol' MST3K feel.

I'm looking forward to this cause, well, I came into MST3K pretty late (like I was in my late teens early 20s) and while a lot of the movie riffs landed well, it felt super weirdly paced and not super funny for a solid half the time for me.

I'm hoping that with a crew of young comedians who love the material but have more modern sensibilities/style I can get into it more

I am of the opinion that the host segments have always been bad and will continue to always be bad

Maybe "bad" isn't the right word

    "Corny" DEFINITELY is

Yeah it's not a matter of "good before, bad now". It's just a very different energy from the old ones.
