Gregg Allman, co-founder, singer, organist, and songwriter for The Allman Brother Band, has passed away at the age of 69. He died of complications from liver cancer.

The band was known for its Southern rock style, which was a fusion of rock, country, gospel, blues and jazz (and probably many other influences).

The Allmans had a yearly gig at the Beacon theater in New York, where I was able to see them twice, and they were amazing. They created some of my favorite songs (some written by Allman, some by Betts).

They were well known for their live music, including Live at the Fillmore East. Bit of an interesting write up, thanks to Mr. Google.

Bit of the band over the years:

Epic version of Whipping Post, one of their/encore finale songs:

Put another notch in 2017's kill count. Hopefully folks can recount their experiences with the band in which Gregg Allman featured heavily.

Has always been one of my ringtones, even way back on a flip phone, just the perfect musical melody.

One would think Top Gear or The Grand Tour does some tribute to the man.

Yeah Jessica is one of my favorite instrumental songs of all time.

So many great solo bits in it.
