Discussion afterwards is fun, but I don't wanna be distracted by friends or audience members while I'm watching
Oh, no doubt. I go to movies by myself, too.
But there are some that are just enhanced by being able to look to either side of me, see familiar faces enjoying and taking in the same information, and feeling a sense of belonging.
"A new take on the epic fantasy genre... Darkly comic, relatable characters... twisted storyline."
"Readers who prefer tension and romance, Maledictions: The Offering, delivers... As serious YA fiction, I’ll give it five stars out of five. As a novel? Four and a half." - Liz Ellor My new novel: Maledictions: The Offering. Now in Paperback!

I've never gone to a movie alone... ever.
I would just watch it on my laptop in my bedroom if I was gonna do that.
I find the actual experience of seeing a video on my computer or in my living room significantly different from seeing it in an actual theater and the idea of those two experiences being equal or interchangeable is difficult for me to grok.
Like, I have zero problems going to a movie alone (I mean sometimes I'd LIKE to share the experience with others, but I can enjoy a movie solo just fine). It's the theater environment that makes the difference.
I get tremendously distracted when sitting at my desktop and i constantly feel the need to pause and get up and flick between tabs even when i quite like and am invested in something, so movies theatres are really important to me

I now solely go to the Alamo Drafthouse for all my theater needs. Just being to reserve the seats well in advance and just goin into the theater 30 minutes early and sitting where I wanted is huge.
Also their pre-movie shows are significantly better than the horrible ads you get at AMCs.
I wish we had a drafthouse inside the loop because I would live there.
Ours is very nice. The lobby is designed like the Emperor's throne room on the death star, complete with chair that has a button that fires the death star laser on a huge model hanging from the roof.
I live on the FW side of DFW, but alas all the DFW Drafthouses are very much on the D side. I do occasionally wander over there for special occasions (Baby Driver with a short pre show concert, for example), but it's a pain. There's Movie Taverns here and their food is pretty decent, but they have the generic pre-show crap like regular theaters.

I'd be all about living in an abandoned movie theater
I guess maybe it doesn't have to be abandoned, maybe we could actually play movies there
I just want to hide in the rafters and terrify teens though
Steal My Sunshine is forever linked to Nathan For You, in which Nathan steals a man's urine and then has a fun time at a theme park with the same man, set to that song
If he just played Super Mario Sunshine it wouldn't be all that much fun. He's gotta have some stupid ass ground rules that'll he'll ignore by the 3rd episode.

I love how Abby Vinny and Alex are struggling to even control the camera in Sunshine then Dan just starts belly hopping and turbo jumping like some speed runner.
My wife loves sci-fi, action and fantasy movies so I have to go see my boring comedies and dramas by myself. I got used to it a long time ago but it was def weird for awhile. It also got to the point where I got tired of trying to rope people into seeing a movie they might not have heard of so I did kind of force myself to like going by myself. I moved away from my movie buff friends that wanted to see French movies with me long, long ago.
When we lived in a bigger city, I was there damn near every weekend. We had multiple arthouse theaters and a Drafthouse, it was grand.
Now, the theater that shows the smaller movies shows them on their one screen with the shittiest chairs and on a screen slightly bigger than my TV. I like that they're bringing in the smaller movies but fuck that. I'll just VOD it at that point.
Also, goddammit, Dan. You gamifying everything motherfucker.
I saw Get Out in one of the (initial) last showings at the Drafthouse.
it was a late-afternoon matinee, and I had already treated myself to a hearty lunch, so I asked the server for a cup of water, cookies, tea, and told him I wouldn't need anything else. (Less tip than a full meal, but also no worries.) There were, like, 7 people in the theater? I sat in the near-to-last row, and the closest person was 5 rows up, mid-theater.
I felt very free to react, and it was a good experience, but it would've been a treat to see it again in a full showing.

Alex just trying to concede right then.
Dan definitely remembers more about Sunshine than he's claiming.
Edit: haha, Alex already doesn't give a damn about winning. Already betting on Dan's failure.

This is one of the strangest spoilers I've ever seen.

I never thought my experience of a baby being changed in the theater during the Battle of Helm's Deep would be topped. But then I experienced an entire audience chanting USA USA USA in Shin Godzilla during a scene condemning America.

If I could legally do that for a reasonable price I absolutely would
