    Oh my.

I'm annoyed that CB doesn't do the vendor hall at NOVA. Carlos and/or Gutier are usually there but they don't have a vendor booth like they do at Adepticon.

Holy cow the snipers for both YJ and Nomads look fantastic. Which profiles are they for?

Also are they going to release these models independent of the bundle deals?

Also also I quite like how Nomad HI tech is all over the place.

Also I'm not going to lie but the nomad stuff seems a kinda shakey addition to their ice storm list. A second MSV sniper and a middling spitfire are hardly useful.

I actually disagree because you have quite a flexible ten order list that covers a variety of tactics and options there.

AD and TO Camo and Camo with MSV, Heavy Infantry... got it all

Yea but I agree with Albino Bunny that the Intruder with MSR just eclipses the Grenzer with MSR in every way, having both in a list isn't great. I'd actually prefer if the Grenzer didn't have a MSV so he could be the anti-white noise guy.

That said, just run the Grenzer as the Sensor+FO profile, it's still a little higher in points than I want to pay for that utility, but the special FO Sensor shot is a useful and pretty rare thing (in general, and especially on a high BS character).

  • Options
    SolarSolar Registered User regular
Well I mean the Grenzer is a lot cheaper

    over 10pts cheaper

And if you're shooting at the majority of stuff, just as good in fact. Want to go after something that's not in good range with their own gun, with anything less than ODD or TO Camo? The Grenzer is hitting on the same dice, with the same Burst, and costing a whole order less.

  • Options
    LanlaornLanlaorn Registered User regular
Well, sure, the Intruder is more expensive, but IMO it's a) worth the cost for your MSR unit and b) the point was the Beyond Ice Storm set would have you run both, which I think is silly as the Intruder MSR does everything the Grenzer MSR does, but better.

Being able to turn into a camo token is a particularly big advantage, nevermind the surprise shot modifier on his next shot.

  • Options
Albino BunnyAlbino Bunny Jackie Registered User regular
Yeah with that list I'd absolutely clip the grenzer and run him as the fo profile.

Then make the brigador a hacker and you're probably up to a serviceable list based around nasty combat specialists.

    SolarSolar Registered User regular
Honestly if I could make any change to the Grenzer I'd run him as the Spitfire

Because an MSV1 Spitfire at BS 13 is actually pretty useful and doing a different job to the Intruder (active turn mid-range firefighter)

Having a look at the new Yu-Jing models has me very excited! The Ninja models are amazing, I'm just kinda sad that the MSR ninja isn't that great because of the whole 11 BS thing.

    That's definitely an option too.

In general I think MSR Grenzer's definitely one of the least useful profiles in the context of a generic Nomad list because, in spite of the price difference, when it comes to your overwatch slot it's very hard to argue against the Intruder doing the exact same thing in most cases.

I've been proxying my Grenzer as the ML profile and I've enjoyed it a lot more than the MSR. This is just personal speculation/anecdotal evidence, but I feel like armor is more useful at close ranges, whereas CH is best for longer ranges; the Grenzer is honestly the worst performing MSR I've fielded. The Combi+LFT is also super nice, but he loses a bit of function as a SF piece when you can't discover without breaking SF.

TBH I think they just wanted to put out a female Intruder sculpt, with no thought past that. There's only three weapon profiles, Combi, Sniper, and HMG, and they're all pretty fresh. Really, it should have been the Adhesive Launcher or Hacker profile, if anything.

My groups been on a Malifaux cycle lately, but this got me to dig a couple of Haqqislam minis out (the new Bashi Bazouks) to throw some paint on them.

Also the more I look at the new minis the more I like them. I'll definitely be unconverting my Spitfire Tarik to have both profiles. At least it's easy, but requires the purchase of another Tarik. Just pop off the converted Spitfire arm, paint the AP rifle arm, and stick it on.

Sure, I agree that's a great option, I usually use a Spitfire Riot Grrl for exactly that role. A MSV1 Spitfire is great at tearing through LI camo spam.

    Indeed

Hoping that they might have some more link options mind.

Haris would be cool. Also something like one or two Interventors being able to link into Grenzer teams.

In one of the gencon pre-release interviews, Bostria said the new Szalamandra would take design cues from the Kriza Borac.

Which means a new Szalamandra is at least at the concept stage.

So I picked up a 300 point aleph starter box thing kind of on a whim and also because the store owner offered to open another one for a store any for people to play with if I did.

What uhh... What's my next step here, there's some pack of objective cards or something I saw online do I need one of those?

Most pictures I see of this game look like there is a lot more terrain then I'm used to, what's some decent cheap stuff to start out with?

Is this box I bought enough to get me going for a while before I decide to go on any further?

  • Options
Albino BunnyAlbino Bunny Jackie Registered User regular
Looking at that box it looks like it'll do you just fine. Might be light on specialists but eh, you're ALEPH, murder everyone with your super boys then push the button.

Plus you get Penny. Who is super fun to use.

In general you need a decent amount of terrain because, as you'll quickly find, the game is often about controlling sightlines and the more open your board the more dominant one unit can be.

You don't need the objective deck. It just makes for an easier time than rolling dice and recording your secret objective.

    AsherAsher Registered User regular
Yeah the Classified Deck is a good quality of life thing to have. I terms of starting out a 300 point army box is heaps. You probably want to to start at smaller lists, like 150 points to get a feel for how the game plays before you jump all the way in. Infinity can be an incredibly rules dense game, so starting out with less to remember is better than being overwhelmed. There area lot of companies that do good, cheapish mdf terrain and often they have starter table bundles. This is one of the tables I did:
    we27dcu28aw5.jpg
You probably don't need that much to start with, but Infinity is a lot more terrain heavy than other games.

I like the idea of classifieds, but playing Ariadna I often find myself drawing the various "Hack someone" objectives which are almost completely out of reach. Also I am bad.

Tri-Optimum reminds you that there are only one-hundred-sixty-three shopping days until Christmas. Just 1 extra work cycle twice a week will give you the spending money you need to make this holiday a very special one.

so do I but I think it's because they don't always field hackers or certain other sorts of specialists? They're also content to just play annihilation most of the time too so I blame their Warhammer experience haha

Corvus Belli have made 4 different scenary packs; a couple of these can fill up a table pretty quicky (I've linked their store, but you should be able to get it from any online supplier, if not store).

Then I guess it depends how much you want to spend. Bandua sells relatively cheap and simple MDF terrain, both painted and unpainted.

Antenocitis Workshop sells some really nice terrain, especially their pre-painted stuff. They're just about to release the Forward Base kickstarter stuff (next week?), while the Undertown stuff (the main buildings at least) are scheduled for later this year.

I'm a fan of Plastcraft's ColorEd stuff, as it's realtively cheap and quick to put together (they do other ranges as well, which could be applied to an Infinity table, eg; the Malifaux stuff.

There's other companies as well; Miniature Scenery with MDF terrain, or Customepple who do some neat terrain and some cool looking markers / tokens, and I've just recently seen Muse on Minis when it coms to some good looking tokens (they must have only just added the scenary stuff).

I could probably be here listing stuff forever and a day.

My main gripe with classifieds is you draw them after making your list. They should swap that around like Malifaux, so you make your list to the objectives rather than trying to make a generally good list that can do anything. It's ery easy, if you don't cram one of each specialist type in somewhere, to draw objectives you can't do. It's also not likely a specialist operative team will go into a hot zone not knowing what they're actually there for and select their team accordingly.

  • Options
Albino BunnyAlbino Bunny Jackie Registered User regular
Eh, making lists post objectives being drawn means lugging around more models (and being punished for not owning the 'right' models) and a longer set up which the game really doesn't need.

Honestly I think it'd be much safer to just let you veto one classified after your draw. Most lists only have one or two blind sports so that should prevent most of the troubles (and if your list has more then uh... get a better list?)

  • Options
    SolarSolar Registered User regular
    I like that, myself

I prefer a requirement to be flexible over focused in most games tbh

Thanks for the information, I'll almost certainly pick up the scenery packs too start with and probably add nicer stuff in over time.

At the moment I'm just excited to get some games in, I've been eyeing infinity for a while but finding anyone in the area that wanted to play and was willing to make the investment was hard.

Honestly, the scenery packs + a 4 x 4 mat, makes a really good looking board to play on; I got this one from Micro Art Studio, but there's pleny of places to get a gaming mat depending on what you want to be fighting on.

Full Auto L2 grants +1 Active turn Burst when making BS attacks, and AROs that shoot back are at -3 to hit.

You should know the mission before you choose your list.

You already draw-2-pick-1 for each card and can convert any classified into Secure HVT at any point, so that's covered.
