I've certainly heard some misogynistic assholes use it to refer to particular women

It's such a toxic term because of that sort of thing that you can't use it in a friendly way with your friends

Even if someone calling you a cunt has no direct intention to be misogynist, the implication is still buried in there. Somewhere in the etymology of the word there exists "I am calling you a woman thing, it is bad to be a woman". The use of it in the US is broadly disgusting and I'm trying to moderate my use of the word with the aim of removing it entirely.

Completely untrue. They would have just called him a cunt. And then probably that F-slur as well.
Americans don't really use the word cunt. Like, at all.

Maybe cultures are different because that is exactly the kind of insult I dealt with and heard in middle/high school. "Oh I am gonna change your name slightly and use it to insult you" is like, bullying 101.

This. My last name is Bedi (pronounced "Bay-dee") so kids in school called me Gay-dee.

They also called me Osama bin Bedi after 9/11 but that's because I'm from small town Iowa and everyone was kinda racist that year.

At my high school kids today use the F-word all the time to the point where it is basically impossible to police it. Hispanic students are trying to adopt the usage of the N-word, which will probably end horrifically. Like I said before the C-work is never used by anyone, other than by female teachers in reference to other female teachers.

Twat is, to my understanding, pretty serious business in the US too. Here it's school grade. You could use it in front of your parents. You could use it in front of your boss. It is literally safe for work. It also has no gynecological implications and merely means "a particular type of idiot". It also rhymes with "cat" as opposed to in the US where it rhymes with "not".

the UK usage of it sounds equivalent to "Twit" here

It's got a little more stank on it than twit. It's an intensifier of twit I suppose. Twit would probably be considered pretentiously old-fashioned.

The c-word is basically n-word tier, where you need to tread very carefully with whom you're using it with.

Is the person you're talking to a woman or stranger? Don't use.

I don't think anything is really n-word tier. That kind of has its own tier.

On that subject, I have certainly heard the N-word around here much more liberally than 'cunt'.

I mean in the sense that it's all about the context of who's using the word and who's on the receiving end.

EDIT: For the record I do realize the n-word is a worse word to use.

Dickhead and Knobhead are different too I reckon

A Dickhead is more malevolent than the daft but well meaning Knobhead

Though both are terms of endearment, the latter is softer.

    Okay saw it again

    Re Flash driving
So Liz is a senior. Peter is a sophomore. I think Flash is a junior or senior. Peter is in two different science classes, chemistry and physics, the second is with Flash. Peter is probably just smart enough to be taking an higher level science class with upperclassmen. The only thing I'd say that makes me slightly believe he is a junior is that the AcaDeca coach is planning for the next year's meeting and Flash is there. Considering the finals are held in April, if flash were a senior he'd graduate before the next competition so probably wouldn't be there.

Also their homecoming is super crazy late at the end of the school year. Ours is the first week of October.

    Huh
Homecoming has always appeared to happen towards the end of the school year in stuff I've seen. (I forget where mine actually happened)

which is fuckin weird because it is a celebration of coming back to school. Hence the name homecoming.

In the UK and Australia women are almost never referred to as cunts, in my experience. That's a US only thing. It's only used to describe people who are either
    A. A dickhead
    B. Your best friend
    C. Both

Cunt means dickhead? What a country!

British swearing is pretty complicated. The difference between a wanker and a tosser is almost impossible to articulate, for example.

is it like the difference between schlemiel and a shlemazl?

  • Options

The best explanation I have is that a wanker is someone who spends an inordinate amount of time masturbating and a tosser is someone who looks at themselves in the mirror while they do it.

I can, and it would be an interesting twist to what you normally see in representations of both members of the military and in people of color.

Most of the people portrayed as going into military service are, let's face it, either crying eagles who love this country just so damn much, or dangerous assholes who constantly talk about wanting to kill.

And yeah, there are some of those. But it's a real mixed bag. You have enlisted with more degrees than the officers in charge of them, liberal democrats, and a lot of people who go outside the wire to do very nerdy things. Having an academic decathalon scholar choose to go into the military for his own reasons kinda bucks the trend of them always being seen as white yokels.

And let's face it, someone who looks like Tony Revolori with "American War Hero" under his name isn't commonly represented either.

  • Options
    TubeTube Registered User admin
You're right! Now that you've pointed that out, it would be cool to see Revolori take on that material. It'd be a stretch from the (two) roles I've seen him in, but it could be pretty great. I'd be fine with them sidestepping Brock etc completely and going straight to Agent Venom.

He has to get jacked though obviously.

Really? In the UK it's the "worst" swear so of course, any child uses it as often as possible

It's not a swear that gets used much if at all in the media produced and consumed by American teens.

Would they use Twat* instead? I see that used as the diet coke of cunts (oh god what a phrase) in US media, but over here it's well...not really a thing, more on the level of calling someone a bellend.

Personally I don't like to use the word cunt, it should be saved for special occasions, but there are definitely groups of people that use it very casually and referring to their friends.

I have busted it out while roadraging to myself, and kinda surprised myself a bit.

However, calling someone specifically a 'colossal thundercunt' will never not be funny to me.

It's ok. You can tell it's based on a short cause at 80 minutes it still feels about 20 minutes too long. But it's alright.

He also did the horror movie Clown about a dad what puts on a clown outfit that is actually the skin of the demon that clowns we're based on. Featuring Peter Stomare! Good amount of child murder in it.
