Plastic updated redemptionists would solve all my Imperium needs. I've had a 'horrible religious zealots' shaped hole in my heart and and paying $100 for chunky old pewter wasn't going to cut it.
Excited but cautious. I hope they've modernised a lot of the rules and scenario design. We played an old school campaign recently and there's a significant chance you'll spend longer setting up than playing in some scenarios.

My guess (slash hope) is that it's basically going to be Shadow War with a slightly more involved campaign phase.
News so far is that it is loosely based on 8th edition but with all the original character stats, too and with alternate activation and activation cost depending on the role of the model.
Really when Shadow War came out I thought why not Necromunda?
But I would like to know are the other gangs from the original game coming back?
Are they going to redo spyers?
Is the basic game going to be a box set or just a book?

@Badablack Have you looked at Frostgrave cultists? Multipart plastic miniatures, size wise almost identical to GW herioc scale, cheap, and they also sell 40k-appropriate guns for them.
I understand there's a US distributor for them, but (being European) I've always bought them from Northstar.
Kind of disappointed that all the rules in the chaos codex are prefaced with No Death Guard or Thousand Sons allowed.

Yeah. I know it's coming but not getting things like the generic strategems is a little annoying. At least I've still got Rubrics for troops.

Leave the loin cloth thingie like that, or does it look too much like skin?

Looks like cloth to me, especially against the yellow.
So, still undecided on my legion but I ended up spending way too much at Warhammer World.
Loot:
Start Collecting! CSM
Chaos Cultists Assault
Terminator Lord's Cadre
Space Marines Devastators x2
Warpsmith (Hellwright?)
Dark Apostle
Chaos Rhino
Chaos Predator
Imperial Knight Warden
Deredeo Dreadnought w/ Arachnus & Aiolos
Leviathan Dreadnought w/ Storm Cannon & Grav-Flux Bombard
Contemptor Dreadnought via Betrayal at Calth
Fire Raptor Gunship
Crimson Slaughter
And I'm now torn between Iron Warriors, Alpha Legion, or a custom legion. Tempted to go with one of the former two and see if I can't use some of the units as both 30k & 40k, especially since I'm using some of those as 'hellforged' from the Imperial Armour codex. Not sure if I'll get into HH, unless they make the jump to 8th.
I'm also way over 2000 points, but more options is good, right?

Options are fun!
I would say this. Find a bro and get a few test games in before painting. Also paint a test model with both. See which play style and painting you like best. You have a lot of painting to do there.
I'll definitely try to get some games in, didn't even think of that. No one in my circle of friends can afford to pour money into WH40k, but there is a Game Kastle nearby that has open play. I might drop by and find out if they're ok with unpainted armies, and maybe lower point limits. I should be safe to prime everything black and hold them together with white/blue tack.
So I think I have added maulerfiend to my list of wants with the new codex.
It is 152 points for a WS 4+ 10" move monster with 4 attacks at str 12 ap -3 3 damage and 6 at str 6 ap -2 2 damage with a 3+/5++ that for 1 cp can reroll all attacks and wounds during a turn. It also heals a wound a round and has 12 wounds. The thing is a god damn beast with the changes. Lashers use to be a d6 but now they are a straight 6 attacks.
An expensive piece of nasty spear head is 2x maulerfiends guarding a land raider with zerkers/possessed inside with a champ and an apostle. Its about 1k points but you have 40 wounds on tough vehicles moving at least 10" a turn, run the fiends for more. That when they hit your line they will tear it up.
Add a back line of some nasty shooting and boom a really neat army.
Make the fiend/lr/marines world eaters for that extra nasty set of a second/third combat round in a turn. Can even swap out the apostle/champ for Kharne at that point for 160 and another zerker.
With slaanesh do possessed with emps children and have an icon of excess and excess of violence and you can rip through a unit. Lots of extra attacks. And with the apostle and a champ you are rerolling to hit and wound.
Had my first couple of games of 8th yesterday. Weaver of Fates makes Rubric marines incredibly hard to shift, with All is Dust and an Exalted / Ahriman getting them 2+/3++ reroll 1s against D1 weapons. Tzaangors make for good countercharge units as well. I'm looking forward to getting more games, but I need to get more AT firepower outside a Land Raider. I'm thinking a Vindicator Laser Destroyer.

If you can use/have forgeworld it has some of the best models for Chaos bar none.
Also don't be afraid to smite spam vehicles. It works on them as well as it works on characters and squads.
If you want more traditional helbrutes and preds are great. Preds with 4 lascannons now cost 190 pts. Which is a steal for that fire power.
To add I think is my game plan for this weekend's games/konor mission if it works out.
The helbrute is a sonic helbrute which cost the same as a dual fist brute.
Back line is the noise marines, the msus for objectives, defiler, havocs, sorc and lord. So I get prescience and agonies on nearby units. Reroll 1s to hit. And can dish out a lot of firepower.
Front push is the LR, champ, apostle, possessed and the heldrake. With the drake's speed it should get into the thick with something turn 1.
This is pretty close to my list from 2 weeks ago which was a mean piece of work.
Part of the reason the drake is in is I am getting my first one ever in the mail and I am excited. I love the model and the 30 pt reduction on baleflamers is amazing. d6 auto hit attacks at str 6 ap -2 2 wounds can do a lot of damage.
They're all done up as Heresy era marines, and double as a 30K army. Obviously Tzaangors don't fit 30K, but three Rubrics are too expensive. Forgeworld is fine, hence the laser destroyer, but ideally big models should fit both eras and not be too ornate/warped. With only about 200 to spare, a Predator or Vindicator is looking like the best bet.

Chaos Decimators seem crazy good. They hit on 3s instead of 4s now, get all the daemon engine stuff, and can take butcher cannons, which will just annihilate a unit and then make them take increased morale losses. A little less durable than contemptors but cheaper. I'm waiting on two to come from over the sea, where they'll join my heldrakes and plague drones on Team Regen Wounds All Day.
For decimators, I'm leaning towards the storm lasers for anti-infantry duty. 10x str6 AP-2 shots is comparable to the butcher cannons (wounding on 3s instead of 2, but with better AP and more shots), but at almost half the price AND they're one of the few vehicle mounted assault weapons, so you can make good use of that bs3.
I run a night lords army, so the morale effect seems useful. That said, decimators are pretty easy to swap out at the weapon joints from what I remember. I don't think I even used magnets, just a pin through the elbow.

Why not a missile launcher on the sonic helbrute?
its cheaper than the fist, and you can use the stratagem to get it to fire twice.

I might. I forget I can do that. I always figure I have to keep the arm.
Also my helbrute is quiet literally a converted loyalist dread since I got it before Chaos had plastic brute kits. I am going to see if I can find myself a blastmaster during nova or some part I can convert. Another dual lascannon arm with the old demon noise heads from the vehicle sprue should work too.
Also that would let me get a 20 man cultist mob which wouldn't be bad.
I've gotten 3 games in now and I'm really enjoying it. The group I've been playing against have been fielding a bunch of psykers though and mortal wounds are the bane of my existence.
(I just got my CSM codex preorder and it's in french. :bigfrown: )
GW ordering does some weird things with languages. I pre-ordered Burning of Prospero, and when it arrived there were two Geigors and no Ahrimans. So they sent a replacement. A German replacement. I live in Japan. Luckily they let me just put together the things I need and send everything else back.

DG is next on the list for the codexes so just a bit longer. TSons also get their own.
So kind of hard to complain too much especially since they did give TSons and DG access to the new spells in the codex.
