Man, doing HR work really sucks. Is that an HR manager grousing? Or maybe it’s a hiring manager? Imagine a sales rep at your company complaining about what a hassle it is to sell.
Yet, HR executives ponied up over $100 million in 2016 to ZipRecruiter for help filling jobs.
It doesn't go into the detail I'd really like, but I get a strong suspicion that most HR departments are doing a really shit job and don't understand the impact of how they pick the keywords that they're going to run 500 resumes through.

Why do I always have to deal with the batshit insane code?
Say you want a random 9 digit number and then convert to a hexadecimal string. There's lots different algorithms that can calculate random numbers depending on how "random" you want them to be.
Or you could create a file that has every single hexadecimal value possible for a 32 bit number, then split that file into 4000 different smaller files and then randomly pick which file to open and which line to read from the file.
The best part is it accomplishes nothing anyways because how do you know which line to read? You need a random number to ... generate a random number? Great, so what's the file for? :rotate:
I can't even imagine how slow this whole thing is too.

It's a weird day indeed when you realise without a doubt that your department was far better managed, and a significantly healthier environment, when it was run by the political party you're opposed to.

I sprayed a dude with his own blood today. I still feel really bad about this. Because, you know, I sprayed a dude with his own blood.
Standard blood draw, dude had nice veins, did the poke, started the draw, everything was standard and nice, I looked away for half a second to grab the next tube, and when I looked back blood started to fountain out of his arm onto his white shirt. Because of course he was wearing a nice white shirt. It makes the blood stand out more. I stopped the draw immediately but too late, ended up finishing on his other arm where everything was fine. The man was very nice about it, told me not to worry about it, stuff happens, whatever, he'll just wash it when he gets home. That made me feel worse! I probably deserved a tongue-lashing for, you know, spraying him down with his own blood.
The rest of the day was not as messy or weird, just featured a lot of cleaning.

Don't beat yourself up at all. I've been donating 880ml of plasma in <45mins twice a week for about 5 years now, using the same vein, and when someone needs to do their first stick there is a... commotion when I walk into the back. Not to brag, but my veins are damn good.
I have been that guy before, but even worse than what you did, this phlebotomist got a couple drops on both guys on either side of me, too. All three of us were just like that guy because we get it, mistakes happen. Plus, only someone who cares about doing a good job could stand to do that job, so you will care way more about it than I ever could care about a stupid shirt.
Edit: Oh, and it gave me a reason to get some new clothes, so in the end getting sprayed with blood was a good thing.

I coordinated blood donation events at my old work center, would set up, manage volunteers, try getting people to come down, etc.
It's hilarious how many people in the military are not quite up on needles. It really irked me sometimes, because we had the main military hospital nearby and they kinda always needed blood and its a super simple thing you can do to help save lives.

And I found another section where he's looping over a list to search for an item. When it's found, he throws an exception and then catches the exception in another part of the program. That's one way to do event handling.

I started my work day driving to work by myself in my own car for the first time in nearly 4 years. I loved carpooling with my wife, but I can't begin to express how great it feels to have that calm, alone time before hitting the office again (and having my own vehicle again is a pretty awesome feeling).

I was polite about it but honest when they asked how it felt and I said it hurt a lot more than normal (from "almost no pain while donating" to "moderate discomfort while donating.")

Just got chewed out for an error a sales person made that they did not communicate with our build team which blew back on me as 'I should have caught it' even though the build team was aware of the ongoing issues with this sales person, a separate electronic order entry issue where the wrong SKU was assigned to a part number, and a customer entering the wrong part number on a PO.
And now I'm sitting at my desk, staring at my keyboard, thinking about the last three years I've been with this company and how stressed I've been from the jump, wanting to climb and accelerate, but I think I've hit the ceiling. I'm getting near back to back calls as I'm back-fill for general customer service and no one likes logging into their fucking phones, our metrics are being ignored because we're understaffed, and I just want to walk.
I'm miserable here.
