    That looks cool though.

Bloat drone are amazing? Not sure where this mediocre idea is from?

They have more wounds than a helbrute, the same armour and toughness, but with an invulnerable save and disgustingly resilient!

Add in the fact that they have two heavy flamers with an extra point of str and reroll wounds of one baked in, on a fast (for DG) flying body and you have one of the best units in current deathguard easily.

My favourite tactic so far is to have it advance in the bell aura for more consistent speed, fly out ahead, spray a unit turn on and then dare the opponent to charge it.

I'm also a real big fan of the army special rule a someone who plays a lot of cultists, makes them even more efficient for their points cost.

Drones and brutes fill different roles with brutes being combat specialist are good at range. My sonic brute has been pretty great, when it lives.

Most of the folks in my group at least have found drones to just die pretty quickly. DG so far haven't had a great showing but I think the codex will help that a lot.

I have one dread and keep putting it in because it is pretty cheap.

It has been charged or blown up first turn for like the last 3 games.

But considering how damn good my blastmasters have been I would say 2? Its a lot of dakka.

From what I hear the drones are getting alternate weapon load outs and melee versions. So I'm just gonna invest in some magnets and maybe convert up some tentacle weapons.

Huh. Just got word from the local Games Workshop that the big game they'd planned for Saturday was still good to go. In Jacksonville Florida. That's a hardcore manager.

Didn't Jacksonville just get an evacuation order? Because if so yeah I would do that.

I am planning out my lists for this weekend. I have to Alpha Legion list I can try. Or I can do more EC. A lot of that is because my EC has been rocking and I kind of don't want to use orks for cultist this weekend. The AL list uses 45 cultist for troops and has 8 cp at 1500 pts though. At 2k I add termis, oblits, and a heldrake swapping out the rhino and plasma havocs.

Maybe I will not use a daemon prince one day but slaanesh princes are so damn good.

So I posted on here a while back about selling my old 40k valhallans. They got inventoried and sat on my desk waiting to be sold... but I couldn't quite find a buyer or pull the trigger on them so eventually that meant I had to repaint a few and give the new edition a whirl. I want to play at 1000 pts so I've put together a 500 pt list that builds to a different 1000 pt list. I have not played 40k at all since the start of 5th edition but these seem like a good start if anyone is willing to take a look and maybe suggest things to include that would help re-learn the game as a focus over being overly competitive. Perhaps figure out a way to put a transport in the 1000 pt list to play with that sort of gameplay?

DG review including the new units. Some are kind of neat. Deathshroud Termis are 50 pts base before the weapons. Their base weapons are another like 25 points. 4" movement, halve the advance because they are in cataphractii armor.

But they also have manreapers which is an awesome weapon.

But they are basically all characters and buff other DG stuff. And have super flamer pistols too.

Still DG looks super interesting after watching this.

How practical would a Dark Eldar force with an Avatar of Khaine be? Does it synergize at all? I kinda want to get that Dark Elf Cauldron of Blood and use the big Khaine effigy as a dark eldar Avatar, with a bunch of wyches and snake monsters.

For Imperial Fists, which would seem more thematic?

Land Raider Redeemer or Land Raider Crusader?

Since the Crusader started out as a Black Templars vehicle, I would assume their parent chapter would also have them, and... well... bolters.

But I can also see the Redeemer with its purge the unclean with flame theme.

Ultimately, as a codex chapter, I could use either, but I'm trying to narrow it down to one. I'm leaning towards the Redeemer because I already have plenty of heavy bolters in my company.

So went and played tonight just a 1k game. My opponent was trying some necrons for the first time. I won at list building I think but still a fun game.

    My list:
    Alpha Legion
Battalion~1k points (just over so was he)
1x Prince with wings-slaanesh, diabolic strength, elixir (slaanesh relic +1 attack +1 str) with tactics
1x Sorc-normal load out with prescience and the FNP spell

    Troops:
    12xCultist
    13xCultist (something like this)
    7xCSM with a plasma and combi-plasma

    Flyer:
    Drake with Baleflamer

    Heavy support:
    Oblits

    Fast Attack:
    Bikersx3 w/ 2xplasma and 1 combiplasma

He had a something like this:
    1x Necron Lord-staff thing
    1xNecron Overlord w/scythe

    Troops:
    ~13xWarriors
    ~12xWarriors
    5xImmortals

    Other:
    10xFlayed Ones

My MVP was the drake. First turn shut down 10x warriors and killed them and the overlord.

Turn 2 it shut down the other warriors, the lord, and the immortals.

Bikes were great doing a lot of wounds. Veterans on the long war on them is really mean. The Oblits were also vicious and I rolled well on them. Well worth their points now.

Prince is a blender but only killed the lord as it was all he got to. He was in it with the immortals when we called it and would of easily killed them.

I am loving my codex and army. I just feel I have a ton of good units I could use at will. I used more stratagems tonight including double shot on the oblits and veterans on the bikers to finish a unit. I daemonforged the drake too.

I love it. Lots of strategic choices and ways to look at the game. Its hard to get myself to try my ork boyz.

Top it off a bro has the full chaos dark vengence set he is selling me. He bought it ages ago on sale for the DA side. So finally can have actual cultist not orks in my army.

    Got tabled tonight as Ynnari versus Orks in a 2000 point game. Things I have learned;
    • Sweet Jesus is the Yncarne not worth its point cost
    • Yvraine is pretty great, especially for buffing a unit with heavy firepower
    • I quite simply cannot figure out a use for Reavers. They're expensive and just not good at anything.
    • Venoms are utterly incredible and consistently one of my best performing units.

My last game verse a Genestealer Cult army taught me a lot more than tonight but I used it tonight. Things that kind of go for everyone and did play in to tonights game.
    • Learn to bubble wrap. I think every list from now on just takes an 80 pt cultist tax to make sure I can't have something deepstrike and kill my back line at will. It is so important to deny that with bubble wrap. And totally worth it.
    • Shit that was bad is good. Holy crap the bikers were really fun tonight and I have to repair mine.
    • I am going to buy shit.
    • I am super enjoying my army again and it is hard to talk myself into playing my orks.

Played a game against some Necrons tonight. I take back all the mean things I ever said about Scouts.

A five man sniper scout squad with camo cloaks sitting in a ruin with a clear line of sight to an objective basically harassed my opponent for the entire game, were almost impossible to kill, could snipe characters regardless of their distance compared to other units, and gave out a handful of bonus mortal wounds to boot.

The only problem is that now I have to paint the little bastards.

    Scouts are a thing.

Reading Front Line Gaming's NOVA after action the dudes Scout Bikers were a key component of his army because they destroy stuff like conscripts. He was playing a Raven Guard successor so they were even harder to kill than normal.

    Me?

I play Emp's children. Whats a cover save?

This is from NOVA and to me this is a minimum set up of terrain. Lots of places with cover and at least some line of sight blockers in the middle.

Needing to be on or within a piece of terrain to benefit from cover has been severely hampering how useful it is, in my limited experience. It's usually either blocking line of sight entirely or not giving any benefit.

Cover rules in 8th are spectacularly idiotic and 100% of the blame for them can be placed on WAAC tournament players and their "Nuh uhh you can only see 24% of my Land Raider" garbage.

I've seen it said consistently that European players tend to use much more terrain than American ones do. Personally I love a super dense board with multiple overlapping layers, even though it makes moving models and determining los more difficult.

So was having shower thoughts since I am getting the Dark Vengeance chaos stuff from another guy in my club since I need cultist but I am also turning some of the chosen into like an Exalted Champion and the maul guy into a Dark Apostle.

But it means a second helbrute to convert to a sonic dread. This might be the list I first try with it. Lots of different threats. A lot of range with blastmasters and havocs. Some closer in stuff like the plasma havocs which I tend to use to threaten drops. Drake, termis+sorc with a jump pack, and oblits to get at juicy bits. A pretty nice cultist screen for different uses. Eventually the havocs get dropped and I move some points around with cultist and such for a mauler fiend instead of the plasma havocs. This is a nice forward screen with my daemon prince. Termis can be swapped for possessed with a rhino as well.

First rumours for Forge World traits are out in the wild.

    Metallica: 6+ FnP

Stygies: Infantry -1 to hit if more than 12" away (would that be the third time now that they used that trait?)

Mars: Roll two dice for canticles

I wonder what new background is the explanation for the Stygies trait. I don't remember anything about them being particular stealthy except for wearing black robes? Anyway, I have to really get going with the painting, only 3 Kataphrons finished so far.

It would be great if you could give the Tech Priest different specialisations like Explorator or Biologis, but with the no model no rules policy that will never happen and we'll be stuck with the Dominus with the only option being the two different small arms.

edit: Maybe there'll be a cp upgrade for the Tech Priest like there is for Chapter Masters.
