Hey guys,

I don't know if anyone else who posts here is in the Las Vegas Valley right now, but if you're on the strip or nearby get yourself safe.

    BBC story, still very early reporting, not a lot known yet.

    At least one gunman is reported to have opened fire at a country music festival being held on the Las Vegas strip.

    Videos on social media show hundreds of people fleeing the scene and the sound of what appears to be prolonged automatic gunfire can be heard.

    Live footage from the scene shows a heavily armed police presence down the Las Vegas strip.

    The shooting took place at around 22:30 (05:30 GMT) and there are reports of multiple casualties. Police have advised people to avoid the area.

    I haven't listened to much in the way of audio because my kids are asleep in the next room and.. you know. People are saying it had to be more than one person, just because there were so much rapid fire, but now the police are apparently saying that it was just one person.

    I was on the casino floor of Mandalay Bay when this happened. I’m fine and have since been evacuated and picked up by my brother, so I’m fine. I hope everyone near here stays safe.

    LVPD supposedly just told the media that they don't believe any other shooters remain in the area. Just the one guy down, no identity or motive known.

    We're about 15, 20 minutes away from the Strip, safe. Couldn't hear any of the shooting, not close enough, but the emergency response going to the scene was loud as hell.

    Too many times, people assume there are multiple shooters because of the sheer amount of havoc caused and the number of bullets fired in quick succession. Nope. Just America and our insane gun laws that make it trivially easy for one person to do this kind of thing.

    From the sound of it, this was done with automatic weapons, so gun laws aren't really in it-- odds are high that the weaponry used here was illegal.

    There are multiple places in Vegas that let you shoot fully automatic weapons. And the legal gun trade provides cover for the illegal gun trade in America.

    High capacity magazines, folding stocks, military-style attachments...gun lobbyists fight against restrictions on these things tooth and nail because their silly goose customers want to play soldier.

    Police are having a press conference.

    Shots were fired from the 32nd floor, suspect dead. Local resident, no name disclosed. The police are looking for a lady 'companion' he was with, they gave her name and description out. There's also a vehicle (two?) registered to the shooter that the police need to find and they gave the plate number / vehicle model out.

    Edit - Shit, over 20 dead but no specific number. Same with the injured count, "well over 100."

    Apparently he was firing from a 32nd floor hotel room, so yea, even gravity wouldn't have hurt his range much.
