[Steven Universe] oops all gems

Steven Universe is a show about a Connie, a Lars, a Sadie, a mailman, an Onion, and My Dad. It's also about friendship, compassion, and how sometimes a family is three alien gemstones and their adopted half-human/half-gemstone son. The extended theme song tells you everything you need to know to get started (spoilers for season two):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip1eVBs7hC4

The show is currently on hiatus after airing the first four episodes of Season Five. Cartoon Network hasn't announced when the show's coming back, but they have released a trailer for the next episode:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4azBfATFEc

While we wait for new episodes (and the upcoming video game "Steven Universe: Save the Light") you can use this thread to talk about old episodes, post fan art, discuss news, and generally just hang out and be cool.

I have a twitter.

It's actually better than it has been.

Only 51% of the schedule is TTG!

Again, Cartoon Network's scheduling makes no sense. I get that Teen Titans is probably their most monetizable show, but still.

Weird to me, ttg being a licensed show getting such a schedule majority. I remember round the ben 10 years cn was really deemphasizing non-in-house franchises, or at least that was the rumor why they shit on justice league

As someone who actually likes TTG, that schedule is ridiculous.

Cartoon Network finally has their Spongebob.

There's been like 3 different top level management changes since then so I wouldn't be surprised if priorities changed

I did a search for the thread title, couldn't find it, went with it. But I'm willing to change the title if someone comes up with a particularly bad pun.

Not yet. We had a computer running a query to work out the best time to use that one, but a construction crew demolished the house it was in just before it could finish. Damndest thing.

I can believe they've begun padding out Ttg with old teen Titans. I guess just to highlight the difference

Like, good God how do you play a single show for half your daily airtime? There is no way that ends up going well for any significant length of time being that saturated.

Ive stopped watching CN as filler noise. That title goes to Andrew Zimern with Bizarre Foods now. Maybe the occasional Disney XD when they decide to show blocks of Star v Evil or Gravity Falls.

CN is certainly a wasteland now. Doesnt matter if there are good episodes of TTG. ive seen them all 40 times in the past month.

It's a children oriented network and it's the school year. Ratings during the day are gonna be a wash for them anyway.

I would assume part of CN's thinking is that it doesn't really matter what they play during the day during the school year that much. Marathoning something established probably isn't hurting them, especially during a time when the vast majority of their viewership isn't there to watch it.

If you're a school aged kid, you really only have the chance to watch an hour or two of TTG on that schedule most days, and while that's still a lot (especially given how large CN's back catalog of shows is), it's not as bad as the chart looks.

I also wonder how much of that schedule is caused by the fact the last few new shows they've tried to push haven't been all that great. Mighty Magiswords is terrible. My Knight and Me is quite possibly the worst thing I've seen them air in years. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs isn't good AND makes no sense in the timeline of the movies and the Powerpuff Girls remake isn't as good as people had hoped. Also, I'd say Ok Ko isn't as huge as they might have been hoping given the push the show got - I know my kid didn't buy into it.

But what if I'm 35 year old man travelling for work and I want to watch cartoons while I iron my cloths or get back to my room after work? It's never not teen Titans go for me!

I just do Netflix at home and my occasional work trips are a helpful reminder that cable TV is a wasteland.

Id like to say the bar has been raised as far as story telling goes. Ok ko doesnt feel like it has an ongoing narrative from what ive seen. (Not much). Mighty magiswords had potential, but the writers went with cheap gags from the 90s as far as i can tell there.

As much as i loved grim adventures of billy and mandy, i dont know if it would have legs to stand on now, or have the time to put out great episodes like the picnic war with the dwarves and elves, the grim custody court battle, or the Thing (dreamcatcher?) Parody with Nergle's son and the others going snow camping

Like I'm not one to spout the "better shows back then!" stuff, but it does seem like there used to be more of them back in the late 90's through the 2000's.

The Regular Show is way better than like, all of the 90s CN catalogue.
