I still find it weird this game has straight-up codec calls in it

also its bullshit that later versions of this game fixed this bug im almost positive, I know I couldn't do it in the ps4 version at least (unless I did the setup wrong)

I really, really liked 5 if you had another person to coop it with.

I beat 5 in a single night of coop, it was great.
    Fuck that boulder.

Normally I'm not the type to be bothered by this but re5's racial stuff was too much for me to handle. I made it to the swampland part where you were having tribesmen literally chucking spears at you and had to stop

I replay it 1-2 times a year and I think I own every version of it because capcom found the game they can trick me into buying 10 times

    Damn fine videogame

You do not own a copy of it for the Zeebo

Chris vs. Boulder is the best part of RE5 and Wesker is very good in RE5.

4 is easily my favorite game in the series. Wii version might be the best since pointer aiming is great for sniping and trick shots with gimmick guns like the sparrow. I could replay it forever

5 was meh. And racist. It lost the merchant too so fuck that.

Despite everything, 5 is still a really good game because the gameplay is really good. The story and bosses are forgettable, but I still ended up beating the game twice, once co-op with a friend.

And then one time I forced another friend to play co-op 5 mercenaries with me. He was groaning as I handed him the controller. Like 3 hours later we had all the character unlocked.

Maybe you are forgetting the boss where you shoot a tomahawk missile at him so he is distracted enough that you can even shoot him?

Or the boss where there is lava blocking your path and you have to punch a boulder into the lava to make a path?

I actually don't remember that first one at all.

I do remember the boulder boss but that's a given. It's the moment that made Chris a true hero.

It's a good thing the boulder punching is so memorable because the rest of that final bossfight is a trashfire. I absolutely love RE5 but that fight always feels super busted. Like, there's progression triggers that just don't work right

I cleared the original PC port of RE:4 5 or so times. Died to the damn boulder and huge knife dude a ton each time because the controls for that one were something else and never agreed with cut-scenes.

5 is that game I really enjoyed for a few days with a friend but don't remember anything about today, so that video is a delightful reminder.

The best easter egg in RE5 is that Wesker is still using his STARS pistol up until the end.

Wait why are people talking about RE4 again? First I've heard of it

I adored it back in the day, I don't think it's aged particularly well though

I grabbed it on PS4 when that version hit because that's what I do with RE4, but I barely played it at all this time

I'm stuck really bad in my pro play through; in the castle room with the two standing buttons in back that raise the turn crank

I have no rifle ammo and one incinidiary grenade and go down in a hail of arrows anytime Ashley doesn't get killed or dragged off

Yeah that's always bugged me in RE games. It's entirely possible to basically save yourself into an impossible situation

Mike the helicopter pilot is awesome on easy, meh on normal, and completly useless on pro.

Hi yes hello I own the PS2 version of this game and also the most recent HD pc port. I must have finished it on every difficulty at least a dozen times (including the PS2 and replaying it on my PS3, and then again on the pc), and all the extra modes as well (except for Mercenaries mode on the p.c, that stuff I've gotten about a quarter of the way unlocked but there's no point doing it all for a third time)

If you're boned you can cheese the intro to that room (when you first come in through the big double doors) by just going back out through the doors and then coming back in. It resets the placement of the zealots but not their health. If you had any rifle ammo you could quickly headahot one of the crossbow sniper assholes, cut a 180 and go out the door, go back in and waste the other crossbow sniper asshole, then do the door boogie again to reset the first group of zealots for that incendiary grenade.

There is a box of 5 rifle bullets off to one side of the doors you enter through and then another 5 over in the second part of the room with the two crank handles, but you're gonna need those to keep Ashley safe while she's turning the cranks.

The first playthrough on Pro is really tough though. I recommend saving as much cash as possible and just buying a rocket launcher for 30,000 pta before each big boss fight.

Definitely would've purchased a rocket launcher for Chief Mendez if I'd known I was painting myself into a corner by feeding him every rifle bullet and shotgun shell in town

Mendez you start by blowing up the barrel to the right of him right after the cutscene ends, then you run around the mezzanine level and grab the grenade and health up there. I empty all the TMP rounds I've got into his torso to cut him in half, then use the shotgun to knock him off the rafters when he's flinging himself about up there, followed by hucking grenades at him when he's on the ground. Gotta be quick with the grenades though!

RE4 is great, RE5 is good

you know what always kept me coming back though was Mercenaries.

Which makes me confused as to how the actual Mercenaries game was just... bleh

i like 5, but i would never bother to play it without coop, its one of the greatest 2 player games ever though IMO

I don't think I like 4 that much. I like the extremes I guess. I like 1, and 0, and probably all of the early ones that are similar to RE1

and then I like 5, Rev2, and I kinda-sorta like 7... i would really like it if it were like 10 hours longer.

what bothers me about 4 is that you could tell they were moving away from the classic formula toward something that looks like 5, but up to the point I played it, it was really poorly done. the action was not good, and got tedious fast.

From a gameplay perspective, I guess.

I tend to mark Code: Veronica as the last classical "survival horror" entry of the franchise.

After that the tone of the games changed.

One of the most fun things in any Resident Evil is booting up the Village level of RE4's Mercenaries Mode, playing as Hunk, and just getting giant chains of neck snaps on anyone and everyone, including the chainsaw sisters.

    So fine.

They really need to just give us a game where we play as Hunk doing stuff for stupid bullshit reasons.

4 is the best RE even with the bullshit escorted part.

I think 7 is better, but 4 was a completely revolutionary game that holds up incredibly well

Also, if playing this on a console feels too clunky for you to enjoy the experience, the HD pc port is really great with the KBAM controls. I went to all the trouble of getting a PS3 controller to work on my Windows 8.1 pc to try that, and immediately went straight back to KBAM.
