Maybe we could have 48 combatants in 1 on 1 bouts and then end with a 3 person battle royale? Or would ending with anything but a 1 on 1 fight go against Doom's ultimate plans?
Doom's ultimate plans are to destroy Richards and rule the world.
The real question is: how does this tournament further those plans?
Richards will bet heavily on Stilt-Man, and then be blackmailed by DOOM with incriminating bookie receipts and photos.
The hold up is Doom has to widdle down about 200 nominations to either 32 or 64 while trying to keep it so the entrants are both interesting and at least some what balanced. Then come up with a ladder that is also interesting and balanced. So give him some time.

I hope Doom is smart enough to have their be weight classes. I don't find it fun to look at a list of people and know that 90% have no chance. I mean, if we are only nominating uber guys that are just powerful enough to not get disqualified, that leaves our most heroe's entire rogue gallery. I mean, which of Spidey's villians could even hurt Doomsday?
