Mindhunter is really fucking good. This is the shit I needed.
It's very much a slow burn, but it's incredible. Hopefully the guy playing Kemper will win an Emmy - he steals every scene he's in.

I don't really have any shows I go back to yet, but if I did I'd probably go back to the early seasons of The Office. Before it got a little too wacky.

It all kinda fell apart when Steve Carrell left the show, IMO. Some of the Robert California stuff was OK, but it just wasn't the same without Michael Scott.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Heh, I wonder if the thread is still watching Stranger Things season 2 and that's why its not gushing about how awesome it is
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Beyond Stranger Things, their after show sorta "Talking Dead" thing too, I think its safe to recommend because everyone is just so damn charming, it acts as a kinda DVD commentary track too.

There's a separate thread for Stranger Things, so I think most people are talking about it in there instead
Netflix just added The Hateful Eight, if you're in the US. I think people generally have mixed opinions about it but it's one of my favorite Tarantino movies.
I liked Hateful Eight. I was just annoyed that it rehashed every Quentin Tarantino trope there was. I felt like he needed to do something different.

I don't really have a fetish for innovation or anything like that. If Quentin Tarantino likes making Quentin Tarantino movies, and if I like Quentin Tarantino movies, then I'm happy to watch Quentin Tarantino's latest Quentin Tarantino movie. I don't need him to make a Woody Allen movie or a Steven Spielberg movie or whatever.

I don't think we're asking him to reinvent his style so much as asking that he expand from the current typecasting rut his style is stuck in.

Hateful Eight was just OK. I didn't like it as much as Django or Basterds at all.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
*shrug* I dunno what it was exactly. It's not like I ever thought it was an overused style with Kill Bill, or Basterds, Django, etc. I guess I just hit my limit. I still remember watching it in the theatre and just being surprised for some reason. "Oh, we're doing this again?" chapter title cards, non-linear storytelling, Tarantino-style long dialogue scenes. I liked the content, all of it. Just seemed like I had already seen the movie because it was so paint by numbers. It just felt predictable, I just got bored with it.

It was entirely forgettable and felt more like a high budget local play than a Tarintino picture.

Mindhunter is Hannibal for people who don't like stylization or subjectivity. But even though I like those things I still really liked Mindhunter, as a much more restrained take on the idea of profiling and what getting too close to serial killers does to your emotions and relationships. It's no Zodiac but the idea of using that aesthetic for a regular procedural is a good one and they execute it pretty well. I wish Fincher would just bite the bullet and direct an entire season of TV, though--dropping in for the first two and last two is kinda weird.
In other streaming news, The Mist is such a shitty TV show it's kind of staggering. If it didn't have some really icky gender shit rearing its head toward the end I'd recommend it as a "so bad it's hilarious" watch but instead I just recommend skipping it.

House of Cards is cancelled following the next season, what with the new Spacey stuff coming to light.
So after seeing it mentioned favourably here, i Binged the first two seasons of Lucifer last week.
So end of season 2 question
Is there a reason he had to get knocked out and dragged to the desert to get his wings back, or was solely to further delay him coming clean to Chloe?
Cause if it was just so the writers could drag it out longer a la CW shows I'm going to be grumpy.
I did really like how they resolved the goddess issue.
Also, I'm really impressed that so far, at least while I've been paying attention, i haven't managed to catch him in a lie.
He's quite adept at dancing around it, letting others lie for him, or make their own assumptions, etc. Someone there is good at keeping that consistent.
So Netflix just gave me a Fantasy TV category, I gave it a look because that does seem right up my alley. Turned out to be 3/4 Korean dramas. I have never watched a Korean drama and am not sure why a smart category was filled with them when there were so many other shows that could have filled that it out.

I'd say it was totally a delaying tactic.
And it shouldn't be too hard to keep him from lying. His biggest secrets are open ones kinda. It's dancing around that's harder. If they can't think of how to do that they just have him not lie.
So they better not screw that up.

It's something in the algorithm connecting point of origin with top priority for the viewer. When they had a bunch of korean noir movies up I binged them and then every show suggested for about a month was korean dramas. Watch Inbetweeners and the IT Crowd and you'll get swarmed with british comedies and shows.

Well it's more about random side stuff. Like when he visited the school with Trixie and let her introduce herself.
House of Cards is cancelled following the next season, what with the new Spacey stuff coming to light.
Was it cancelled, or is it ending naturally? I don't think there's a whole lot of room left in the story they wanted to tell.
Edit: Though, coming out right after the Spacey news probably isn't a coincidence.
The news articles from the entertainment websites were all saying it was cancelled, and they may spin off a show about characters. This could be PR positioning by Netflix because cancelling a more authoritative response to letting a show wind down.
edit: there was also some movie Spacey was going to make for Netflix that seems to be canned too (or on the verge of being cancelled after the reports yesterday).
Actually, Netflix isn't spinning anything, just the Hollywood news outlets are.
"A Netflix spokesperson confirmed to Guardian Australia that the decision to end the show was made months earlier, and not in response to the allegations about Spacey surfacing. " - from the Guardian piece on it.
I miss when recommendations for what to watch next actually contained related to what you just watched.
Yes Netflix, I know you have a new show out, I literally just watched it before the show I just watched,... oh that's your only suggestion anyway... alright then.

Have you considered watching it again?
I think you underestimate how addicted I am to Bojack, F is for Family and Big Mouth, I've proven there is no limit to the amount you can watch something , it will keep suggesting it!

I have no idea what would have triggered it though. The closest thing I've watched recently would have been the Death Note anime. Most of them were saying because I watched Shannara Chronicles.

Good movies:
-Chronicles of Evil
-New World (probably the best korean movie ever IMO and a real gateway movie)
-Moss
-Confession of Murder
-The Unjust
-No Mercy (the ending's messed up just a warning)
Bad movies:
-No Tears for the Dead (this was a bad movie and a real disappointment because it was made by the same guy who did Man From Nowhere which was perfect)

November moer leik Newvember, huh? huh? .....huh.
New classy US Netflix additions be:
-42
-Casper (1995)
-Chappie
-Field of Dreams
-Men In Black
-Michael Clayton
-Oculus
-The Pursuit of Happyness
-Silent Hill
-The Whole Nine Yards
I enjoyed the movies for what they were but LOTR has a lot of material to get through and subtext that didn't translate well (or at all) in the movies but might work well as a serial TV show.
Thanks to all the people that mentioned American Vandal here. At first I gave it a pass and was totally not interested. After seeing so many of you watched, I decided to give it a go and it’s fantastic. I’ve never really watched the genre it’s a satire of so I probably didn’t fully get some of it but it was highly entertaining.
Chappie didn't work for me, I didn't really care about anyone in the movie so I didn't care when anything happened to them.
And apparently Michael Clayton isn't the movie I thought it was, so I'll probably watch that tonight. I thought it was the serial killer movie with Costner.

I'd say it's greatest sin is that it's just not that memorable. And for a single-setting film that's pretty bad.

Oh, and no more House of Cards with Spacey, or any other Spacey projects on Netflix.
And Casper the friendly ghost right after Halloween!

Only when generic white guys no longer run Hollywood.
