One thing that's been bugging me about the series so far is how
the demigorgons are basically immune to bullets.

Like it just strains my credulity that people keep opening up on them with assault rifles and... nothin'. They don't even slow down. Hell, they don't even bleed as far as I've seen.

    End spoiler
What annoyed me was that they weren't immune when Hopper was shooting the shit out of em. Just non-main characters couldn't do any damage.

Nah, if a monster is physical, physical actions should have an effect on them.
None of the soldiers were able to hit the Demo dogs given they were flanked on all sides and enveloped by fog. Likewise, given how torn up the Demogorgon was at the end of the first season, it certainly wasn't *immune*
to weapons, but it would have taken flamethrowers, rockets, or heavier artillery to kill it. Try shooting a plate of steel with just small arms, if it doesn't penetrate, the rounds just plink off.

the demodogs from this season were not full grown yet. They were still regularly molting, so probably had squishier carapaces.

The stepbrother is worth it for one scene in episode 9.

I think this season suffers a lot from setting up plotlines for future seasons, but on the whole I enjoyed it.

    finished season 2 tonight
people complaining about the Barb stuff are extremely silly

I liked this season a lot, good characterization and forward momentum, mixing up the cast with each other was great (obviously I am an alive person and liked Steve+Dustin super fun hangouts a whole bunch)

bob's arc was super great, I wasn't expecting to be as sad when he died, they did a good job with him

also when the fuck did sean astin start looking like patton oswalt's younger, geekier brother

paul reiser not being the antagonist was the correct choice

I enjoyed it at least as much as the first season

I had a prediction leading into episode six, "The Spy," that I thought would've made a more interesting subplot, but YMMV. Episode five/six spoilers:
When Bob was helping Mike and Joy decipher Will's drawings, I texted my friend and said, "Bob is a spy put in place to monitor Joy and Will," which is why he only came into their lives after the events of season one and why he was so insistent on bonding/getting close to Will. The fact that episode six was named what it was made me think I was on the right track, but obviously that wasn't the case.

I liked what they were going for with Episode 7 and I generally hope this and other Netflix-style binge shows do things like it cause having everything be this big jellified same-tone soup can get exhausting, even if the jelly soup is appealing, like in ST.

I just think they got a little lost on what the intent of that structural experiment actually was
I liked it, I was just kind of flummoxed for the whole thing, but that could be because I'm extremely dumb

    a note on Max:
the only thing that pissed me off was how EVERYONE is a complete asshole to her, especially Elle and Mike and they never fucking pay for it. So what your hetero drama made you hate some poor stranger?? fuck off!! You don't get to just STAY MEAN

where was the resolution to that arc

    Finished this

    Liked it a lot

Not perfect but absolutely more than the sum of its parts

Helped by some very strong visuals and camerawork and some of the best casting in the business

David Harbour will make a great Hellboy and those kids will go on to have stupendous careers

These are my Stranger Things opinions

My wife and I were honestly surprised people didn't like episode 7. It's a series highlight for me.

Overall, not quite as tight as season 1, but it was still super fun and good. Fully on board for season 3.

    Only a couple wee complaints.
The way the group kept pushing out Max sucked. Felt super drawn out.

Bob's death was frustrating. You saw it coming from a mile away, so it would have been more of a surprise if he actually made it out. It just felt unnecessarily nasty?

11 being away from the group so long was a bummer, even if I did like her story.

Bob and Billy are the best new characters. I could have watched a lot more of them.

I honestly thought Billy was some sort of possessed demon or evil agent infiltrating the group or something based on how over the top his bullying was.

Like he was a caricature of a bully, from some cartoon or something.

    There's also
    his implied racism towards Lucas

He never outright says it but referring to Lucas as "the sort of people" Max shouldn't befriend is preeeeetty gross to me

He was a caricature of asshole 80s jocks but not enough to balance out all of his dark, violent shit and that made him decidedly not fun for me

It's just the specific way he is shitty that makes him un-fun for me
He's abusive to his step sister, vaguely racist, attacks children, is abused himself, kinda psychotic, etc.

Steve was just a preppy bully, which is a lot more easily swallowed for me

Billy was a strained attempt at a Stephen King Bully with even less of the legwork put in.

Tumblr has been abuzz with gifs, but by far the best has been.
The scene with Steve waking up in the car with the party driving.

Which was hilarious in its own right, but seeing it looped is even funnier.

It's not just that i didn't like him, it's that he had no function in the plot. Had Billy (and Max) not been in the show, the only thing that would have needed to change was taking a different car in the last episode. That's it.

Yeah I keep seeing people saying that but like

Dustin and Lucas' entire plot hinges on Max

    And max is also
the (IMHO Stupid) reason that 11 doesn't return earlier in the show

I think Max is instrumental to the plot and all, but I think they did a poor job of making her a character instead of a plot device.

He would say he wasn't attempting murder because he "knew" Max would pull the wheel to make him miss.

Because he's that kind of asshole.

Yeah, I think this is maybe a bit closer to what I thought of her.
Dustin is a kid, wanting to keep a weird lizard is a reward in an of itself.

Likewise, letting Dart escape from the avclub room could have been done any number of ways, including the teacher getting an extra 2 minutes of screentime.

The "love triangle" didn't generate any appreciable drama or conflict that did anything that I can remember. Compare it with the fallout from the Jane and Lucas fight in season 1, and it was more filler than anything else.

There was no moving forward on Will's part, or using Max to help him accept change in his life, just that skateboarding scene in the gym that didn't actually develop their relationship in any direction.

That scene did use Max's presence as a way to get Jane to not interact with the main plot in a real way for several more episodes, but I hated that, so pbbbt.

Max was extraneous at best, she took up space that could have been filled with better plot or characters I liked more at worst.

    And Billy was worse.

Honestly all of the interpersonal drama this season felt super forced. Basically it all felt pretty nakedly of devices to get characters from one place to another versus something organic.
