After Nids it’s Necromunda, then the Month of No Releases aka December, after that though… I can see Tau, Orks, or Space Wolves as coming up. Will be interesting to see how they approach non-codex chapters.

There's still time for a surprise announcement and release of the new Adeptus Titanicus game. The rumor was that it was supposed to be released by the end of the year.

I'm hoping it hits soon, I'm stoked on the idea of Dreadnought sized titans stomping around.

The great thing about Titanicus is how easy it lets you transition to an updated version of the Epic game. All these big cool Titans need their infantry screens after all. And what about your artillery and vehicle support? You’re going to need tiny scale cities for them to stomp around in too. And hey, while we’re fighting this ground war there’s also a battle in space above the planet you could reenact too!

Titanicus coming out in December would probably mean all my loved ones were getting the Walmart treatment for Christmas.

Walmart treatment? Nope, my christmas shopping is done at The Dollar Store.

I just realized I'm not too worried about new Tyranid models, as long as everything comes in plastic.

Except the biovore. That goofy orkoid thing looks busted.

Titanicus has been pushed back a year as far as I know.

Except for terrain bundles the only release that has been for the end of the year is the elven union team.

The last stuff I read was that it had been pushed back from late 2016 to sometime before the end of 2017, but considering the extra amount of work that has been going on due to the launch of 8th I guess it makes sense that it would get backburnered.

I just hope it doesn't get lost in the shuffle of new Nurgle/Primaris releases and the rest of the codexes.

is Titanicus a reboot of epic?

  • honoverehonovere Registered User regular
    edited November 2017
So far it's only the reboot of Adeptus Titanicus, so only Titans. Also a different scale. 8mm instead of 6mm. Roumor is that part of the pushback is to to turn some of the models into plastic kits because at first it was supposed to be resin only which would put a big hurdle on the ease of entrance to the game.

Wasn't there going to be a Capter Approved book coming out? Maybe that's a December release.

I had the assumption that Chapter Approved was going to be the end of November. There are a few new battleforce-type boxes for various factions that look like they're going to be out before Christmas, though.

Chapter Approved is December if I remember the old community post on it.

Yeah, as Honovere said, it's only going to be Titans, but considering that's how things started for Epic (i.e. tanks / troops all came later), then I guess if Titanicus is successful, we'll see extra stuff released.

I don't mind the slight scale increase; it'll be almost the right size for the Dropzone Commander scenary.

The (rumor mill) size mockup that was going around put the Titans at roughly Dreadnought size, which would be nice - it would mean I'd have a ton of models we could use as proxies.

I’ve gotten an idea in my head for a Tyranid army using a single mega-beast but I dunno if it would work if there’s no fortifications available that Tyranids can use now with the keyword system. Basically I want some high wound bastion or bunker to model as an enormous tentacle monster, then model a bunch of smaller tentacles as counts-as gaunts to represent its feeder tendrils. It looks like Bastions are imperial/chaos only though. Are there any other fortifications that are still neutral?

    Sporocyst is a fortifcation.

I won a (4 man, lololol) rtt with index tyranids today. Hilariously because my first opponent was DQed for illegal list stuff (It was accidental, he was new to the army) after we got a draw at the bottom of 3, second conceded despite having only a minor loss, and I fought a very, very scary magnus/tzeentch smite spam (10 heralds, 4 exalted flamers and like 50+ misc horrors) to a draw.

    Weirdest RTT I've ever had.

I am not really into Genestealers in Tyranid armies as the last I knew of I could almost get 3 gaunts for 1 genestealer
I really want to build a living wave of gaunts army with tons of gaunts a few warriors and either a Tyrant or a Tervigon

Still I would like the Tervigon to be slightly different with dropping the guants below it rather than having them casually walk out the front of it

  • BadablackBadablack Registered User regular
You could always model the Tervigon differently to change the apparent delivery method. Maybe have it just floating in the air like a Zerg overlord, and use water effects to hide a support pole with bioslime while also having gaunts pouring down along with it.

Genestealers are really good, it seems. Like, damn good.

But none of the battle reports I've been watching have really used hormagaunts, just termagants and tervigons, and some other monsters.

Genestealers are the best thing in the codex. Period. They are among the most cost efficient damage dealers against every target. They are dirt cheap, absurdly fast, come with a stock 5++, and have access to a plethora of deployment options.

You can win with Tyranids without them, but outside of a few army builds that focus on smite spam or shooting, there's no reason not to have them in any TAC or assault focused list.

Other stellar performers in the codex that can fulfill multiple roles, or one role very efficiently are the Flyrant, Dakkafex, Neurothrope, both types of gants, Exocrines, Hive Guard, gargoyles.

Good units that perform very well but aren't exceptional, super efficient or have exploitable weakness are Tyrannofex, Broodlords, Trygon, Mawlocs, Pyrovores (That's weird to say), biovores, raveners, ripper swarms.

The rest of the stuff is all pretty decent, nothing complete trash off the top of my head. It's fantastic to have a book with such a long list of viable units.

So I actually did pretty well in my first ever tournament! Won 2, lost 3, and thanks to bonus objectives and points killed I came almost exactly in the middle of the 70-odd players that were there. Got quite a few votes for favourite game and army, too!

The overall winner was an Aeldari player, but I found it interesting that there was a lot of Chaos in the top 10. I definitely saw plenty of Magnus and Mortarion showing up on other tables, even though I (luckily) never faced them myself.

The Nercomunda pre order is news is up
    https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/11/05/necromunda-pre-order-11th-november/

Still I am curious about some stuff in the game since in the video they mention the return of special characters?

    Are hired guns gone?
Did Heavies and juves go away in favor of the specialist?

Sly GW dropping the hint that the Zone mortalis board works with the terrain in nercomunda

I do wonder when the new gangs will be out and will they have themed wargear like the escher/goliath gangs now?

Yeah unless your running the Kronos gunline (which seems super strong) genestealers are just incredible. I'd go as far as to say point for point they are one of the most effective melee units in the game.

It's really telling that there are several hive fleets worth considering for genestealers alone.

Heavies are sorta gone, actually; the Champions can take heavy gear and gangers that gain sufficient experience can become specialists but there’s no longer an explicit “Heavy” type/rank. Juves are definitely a thing though.

Hired guns are not gone and will be getting plastic “character” style packs. Further, the range of hirelings available has gone up; suggested ones include scouts/runners (not ratskins), friendly docs, and even cooks, all of whom may potentially see time on-table if a rival raids your HQ - giving you something else to worry about since they aren’t exactly combat monsters. But even the range of types you can pick up explicitly to fight for you is going up; to one day hopefully include an Imperial Beastman who is explicitly the same guy from the old catalogues, just forty years older and retired from the Guard to become a bounty hunter.

The remaining core Clan gangs are all scheduled for “2018” but no greater detail on that has been released yet.

I'm sitting here looking at my NIB assault marines (older kit) and it doesn't have the options for flamers. I'm pretty sure I have a couple extra flamers at home, but probably not the arms for them. Grrrr.

And I wanted to assemble them tonight so they can be primed and basecoated tomorrow. It's the only day of the week I have off.

Flamers look alright being wielded one-armed at least. It’s kind of a pain that no one can take chainswords and special weapons anymore though, I’ve got a bunch of Templars waving around flamers and meltas with swords in the other hand.
